  1. Good observation. I'm no expert, but I think Groce likes what he has seen with Wynn. While he does some boneheaded stuff, he plays a good small 4-5. Against Ohio whose bigs (Carter and BVP) can play the perimeter well, he probably didn't want Aziz running around out there getting beat on drives or caught sagging off a shooter. Come Tuesday @ Ball State, I would expect more minutes for Aziz against their true big Sparks.

  2. Ohio has not played well lately. I'm so sad...

  3. Great weekend to be a Zip. Akron men and women sweep the Bobcats at the Convocation Center. Similar endings. Women up by 12 with a minute left. Kittens get it down to 8, almost steal the ball on an inbounds play, then don't foul the Zips and let them run the clock down and make a shot AND get an offensive rebound before Ohio fouls.

  4. Watching the first half since I missed it last night. Props to Dawson for really stepping his game up and seizing this opportunity. Not enough good things can be said about Freeman. Ali, as long as his attitude remains positive like these last couple of games, can stay a Zip. Looks like he has found his fit without Trimble. Tribble has also found his role too. This team is going to be a force these next 2 years.

  5. All five guys on the floor should be ready and looking to challenge for every rebound. How many more W's do you create by generating 5-10 more possessions each game? I've always enjoyed guys who have rebounding tenacity. It's obviously one of the qualities we admire in Freeman. Also enjoyed the team defense last night. The majority of OU's possessions were really contested. Defense like that requires intelligent effort. Kudos to the coaching staff for the strategery and getting the guys to buy in to the game plan. Big kudos to the players for playing hard on both ends of the floor (I saw a lot of teamism) and earning a nice W in a tough environment. VERY encouraging as we all think about Cleveland in a few weeks.

  6. I think the Zips found a winning formula without Trimble. We are scoring in the paint and not relying on the 3 point basket. Further, this team is much quicker and a much better rebounding team without him. We outrebounded Ohio by 10 last night. Trimble was a perimeter player who did not rebound. Our traps on defense work better because Trimble was slow and a liability on defense. Also, that is why Groce brings in Wynn in the 2nd half to rest Freeman. Azziz is a great rim protector but not great on the traps because he is not very quick. Most importantly, the Zips made their shots yesterday and shot 62%. Ali was amazing on the fadeaways and moves around the basket. Tribble also scored around the basket. Can they keep that up the rest of the season. Remember, X had an off night shooting but killed Ohio at the foul line. A great team effort last night and lets hope the Zips can continue this type of play the last 2 games.

  7. Nope. Sorry dude (Trimble), you had your chance to buy in and give DI effort on both ends of the floor and you didn't. "My team is on the floor." @NWAkron

  8. Groce may have wanted to say something but I got the impression that Boals, while being cordial, just wanted to move on and get to the locker room himself. OU is NOT playing its best basketball right now and I'm sure he was as frustrated and embarrassed as anyone. Not trying to be an apologist for Boals but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he just wasn't interested in conversation at that moment.

  9. Good thing Juwan Howard isn't in the arena.

  10. My god Boals is annoying. Fouling down 17 and calling timeouts down 14 with just over a minute left.

  17. Bad news Zips unlikely to get a top three seed and the 4/5 slot would be a brutal run. You're almost certainly getting 3 of 4 of Toledo, OU, Can't and Buffalo. Those losses to WMU and NIU were killers.

  23. 54 point half against Buffalo? 51 point second half against Ball State? 46 point first half against BG? This is probably the best given the opponent and the Zips defense.

  27. Long way to go in this one, but I guess Trimble clunking threes in 7 out of the first 10 possessions each game caused the Zips to fall behind?

  28. The script Akron logo makes me sad. The fact that EMU and WMU’s logos are worse, helps a tiny bit. WMU has that cool-ass Bronco, and chooses to go with a “block W” inside a circle!? Only five home games makes me sad. But three home games in October, with nearby Kent being one of the other two…and then EMU at home the following week helps a lot! 5-of-6 consecutive early fall games at, or within 9 miles of InfoCision! Joe coaching the team makes me happy. For the first time in 4 years, tailgating at InfoCision won’t be akin to putting on a brave face at a family member’s funeral. Go Zips!

  29. I am sad to see my friend George moving on to a new challange. If there was ever someone who bled Blue and Gold it would be George. From his playing days as a pitcher to his time in the athletics department he always had UA and it's athletes as a top priority. You will be sorely missed George. Dear Zips Nation, Since 1994, I have roamed the hilltop affectionately called Akron U. by the locals. In my time as a student-athlete and as an employee, I have come to love working with students, coaches, faculty, administrators, and staff to advance the University. I have been a part of great teams in Advancement and Athletics. We shared in the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Thank you for working with me to make The University of Akron a great public research university with an unsurpassed commitment to the community. In my 24-years on campus as an employee, I have accomplished and learned a lot. I still have much to learn and greater challenges I want to take on. It is bittersweet to tell you that I am leaving UA and will be joining you as donors and season ticket holders rooting our Zips on from the stands. I leave for a great opportunity which will allow me to grow and thrive personally and professionally while keeping my family in the Akron area. I want to thank all of you for your love, support, and friendship over the years. I leave knowing Akron Athletics has a great foundation to continue to achieve championships in the classroom and in competition. Forever a Zip, George

  30. I really like the "Z" logo. Before deciding, I would like to see something like that using "UA". It's the University of Akron, not Akron. Akron is a place. UofA is both a place and a thing. If UA doesn't look good or isn't as good, go with the Z. Lastly, the colors are blue and gold. Not blue, gold and white. Go with the colors. Own them and use them.

  31. Yes, but make it better. There's something about it that isn't... Defining enough. I'm not sure how to fully describe it.

  33. I'm just hoping we have a better redesign than OSUcks. There was a lot of hullabaloo about this prior to the announcement. Reminds me of the Browns - the Orange is Oranger. @GP1 I like the idea of making it big and owning it. Whatever they do, I hope it's simplistic, yet bold and strong.
