  1. It is only fitting that two of the original MAC MSOC sides square off for the last MAC crown. That title definitely belongs in Akron.

  2. For those unfamiliar with Barstool, here’s a taste. It’s very intellectual, and a lot of very mature and smart people enjoy their content!

  3. Greg is still shaking off the rust from a preseason injury that prevented him from participating until just a few weeks ago.

All 8 players...that were named All MAC......are non- seniors !!!!! 3 other very deserving Zips....Mitch, Ashton and Sam Tojaga....are non-seniors We all know that Gyuwon Chong was headed for an All-MAC first team selection....before his unfortunate injury. Zips Nation....hopes that Gyuwon is healing well....and everyone looks forward to seeing a full season of Gyuwon Chong in fall 2023. Zips currently have the #5 rated recruiting class for Fall 2023. 9. I loaded the Barstool App from the Amazon App store onto my Amazon Firestick. Excellent video and audio on Toledo game.

  10. Can confirm the Barstool Sports Invitational is on their app (i.e. Roku). When you open the app, at the top, scroll over to LIVE and it will automatically start playing.

  11. This is awesome the Big East would be a fantastic home for Zips soccer (and selfishly will allow me to see more games). So if we drop football can we join as a full time member? 🤣😂

  12. Nothing stopping us now from joining a worthy conference! Good News for sure! The next to fall will be Men's Track and Field, probably next year. Once again, only Kent, Akron, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan and Ohio left in that sport. But so nice to hear.

  13. Responding to the bold in order... - Understatement. - My question about these inevitable lapses: will they come against opponents like Mississippi State, or during the lull of the January/February MAC grind? Groce's teams have always lapsed in the regular season which is typically against lesser opponents. I wonder if his "March is what matters" carries over to regular season games against better opponents like South Dakota State, Mississippi State, etc. - Beating the Jackrabbits without a larger offensive performance from Hankerson is somewhat scary. Just goes to show how scary this team could be if they put it all together on a single night. - Is it really a Sincere Carry special if it doesn't include skipping down the court, only to have your ass whooped the rest of the game? There is not a more opposite comparison than Carry & Tribble. One is an arrogant, cocky, showboating prick; the other is a humble and selfless. - They're somewhat similar to Akron. Lost their top scorer (and #3 scorer), but retained their stud big man. They only had 2 guys score in double digits against Corpus Christi (they only put up 63 pts), and the 2nd guy was barely in double digits with 11. The question becomes: do they have guys step up in game 2 that were absent in game 1? - If Freeman stays out of foul trouble and we shoot more than 30% from beyond the arc, we win this game. Hunter and even Lyles will be huge in helping Freeman stay out of foul trouble vs. Tolu.

  14. I think the bump in attendance was in large part due to the student attendance. They not only filled their regular section but helped fill in some of the ends quite a bit. The reserved season ticket seats were disappointingly empty. I too was quite impressed by how the team reacted to Tribble after the missed layup. That's TEAM-ISM.

  15. While I'm working I've had the game on in the background a few times now and it still gets me pumped up the way the entire team immediately rallied around Greg Tribble after he missed the layup. Almost gives me chills. You couldn't ask for a better reaction... from the ENTIRE team!

  16. If you weren't already a season-ticket holder, a Zip die-hard, or someone who attends a few games per year, I don't think the game was marketed very well. We don't currently have a marketing department or anyone to run it, which I understand. But there's got to be some better way to get the word out. I don't want to have the discussion about promotions and different marketing strategies. But I put myself in the shoes of Joe Akron and really thought about it, did the U do anything to go to the general public to inform them? I don't think so. With that said, I do love the fans who show up. That place can get loud! I don't see the energy of the old days where the Zips could go on a little run and everyone would get on their feet. It takes quite a bit to sustain that type of energy these days. But moving the students to where they are now has brought new life to the lower bowl. I've adjusted my expectations from 10-15 years ago and I realize we won't be getting 3-4k for most games, and we'd be lucky to hit 2.5k a lot. It's a shame, the product is so worth it.

  17. I just went to the google play store on my android tv and did a search for barstool. The app was well behind and choppy compared to the online.

  18. For those concerned it wouldn't be family friendly that hasn't been an issue so far. It's more so just a lot of joking around similar to a Manning cast MNF with Barstool plugging their sports betting app hard-core. So far they have interviewed coach K mid game, which I've never seen before on TV before. Not how I'd like to watch an entire season of games, but I don't mind this for a 1 off OOC game.

  23. Big East was mentioned in another thread as Akron having a foot in the door for soccer. It would make too much sense to get as many sports as possible into the Big East, especially basketball.

  25. Agreed. If that's not a sign of a special team with a great leader, I don't know what is.

  26. This is all very true. My disappointment is more where college athletics attendance is heading. Short of being ranked or making a Sweet 16 run I just expect this to be the new normal.

  27. Typical ESPN. Have a chance to highlight a student athlete persevering after a forgettable moment, but elect to pile on.

  28. Makes zero sense to have him play this year barring an injury. Even then, we have Kobe Mitchell, Garvin, Johnson, and Hankerson for eligible guard depth.

  30. Congratulations to all who received honors, especially Jared. Here's to hoping there will never be another Coach of the Year or All Conference member in the MAC from Akron going forward. 😉

  32. I rewatched the game last night and have these comments: -Hester had a couple of nice returns -Bubba was again sensational -Although he threw two picks (the second was in desperation at the end). I think the offense was much more productive with Undercuffler. There were some big drops and some near misses, but the running game was much better. I believe that the defense was focusing more on passing and this opened up the run. -Wiley did a nice job at RB -Adams was clutch, as were the other 2 WR transfers. As I stated in another post, I think we have a chance in the last two games. Go Zips!!!

  33. I still wish Aziz well. I asked this very question of Groce (why did Aziz leave). He said he wanted to keep Aziz and his leaving did surprise him. But Aziz knew his time was limited until he brought more to the game. That was probably good enough for Aziz to say he had to go somewhere else to get the minutes he wanted.

  35. I randomly checked my credit card last night and saw I was being charged $9.99/monthly for an online newspaper subscription, and it was the ABJ. I signed up for a promotion of $1 for a month back in the summer I think to read football articles. I'm not paying $9.99/month for that so I tried to cancel online, but of course they make you call. Called this morning and they offered to drop the $9.99/month down to $30/year. Still told them I wanted to cancel, then they offered me $9.99/year and I had to take that. Just wanted to share to Zn.O that you can get the ABJ subscription for less than a dollar a month for a year. Just need to call and say you want to cancel a few times. I also think they run pretty generous promotions for new subscribers as well.
