  1. The Beacon has an article today with a headline "Zips stay unbeaten with afternoon win.". The article is about PCCC's win over Arkansas- Pine Bluff. Yikes!

  2. Akron was talked about pretty in depth on both the Georgetown and Pitt broadcasts. It's very fun to hear Akron being "sought after" and highly thought of. Much different from the typical banter we hear about Akron.

  3. Dont get me wrong here....I dont want to make it sound like Im (or we) are putting a football game ahead of the safety of your team....its just that the conference should have learned its lesson from the Kent fiasco before....and alot of the dangerousness could have been mitigated/planned for. I also just learned in the last hour that Akron would be busing it here. Equipment truck is one thing. The entire team and staff on buses is something else entirely. Changes the perspective on everything. It just sucks.....

  5. Imagine your NFL team having to leave with all the resources they have, but thinking there is no issue with your game going on as scheduled.

  6. They're proving just as dumb as the Nebraska fans were in 2018. You think this is Akron's decision? You think they're scared? No dips***, the league wasn't thinking when it gave you a pair of potentially important home games in November. Joe now potentially doesn't get another game of film to grow the program, and their track & field....er sorry football team may not get the chance to lose by 50 in a bowl game.

  7. CSU played really well last night. A defensive miscue led to the first Pitt goal and a defender slipped that led to the second. Other than that, CSU didn't park the bus; they attacked when they could. They applied some pressure late which lead to a goal, but time ran out on them. Props to Sinisa and his staff for an excellent season!

  8. If I were the commish, I would give UB and ultimatum. Either you come to Akron to play this weekend AND you come again as regularly scheduled next year, you get the extra game to try to get bowl eligible. If not, we don’t make Akron travel and the game is no contest. You need to beat Kent to get win #6. If this game does get canceled, their fans will bitch and moan relentlessly, especially if they lose to Kent next week.

  9. I dont believe anybody is really saying your "scared". What were implying is, because this happened before with Kent, and because we understand the nature of these storms first hand, and because there was plenty of warning of this, the game is possible if whomever planned ahead. Believe me, if this things get all screwed up from this point, and that game could have been played on Sunday.....we're going to have more questions for the Conference than for Akron. That equipment truck should have left yesterday....and if not then.....today and still had the ability to completely drive AROUND the entire storm and not going more east than Rochester. Besides the perceived being called scared ranks right up there with us being called Canadians....neither is true.

  10. I have no doubt this is true. Kent State is the worst public university in Ohio. Truly stupid people. My guess is their university president was driving the truck.

  14. Hello again....... I wish people would understand how these lake effect storms actually work. Just because theyre calling for 3-4 feet of snow in Buffalo, doesnt mean that all of the WNY area is going to get 3-4 feet of snow. If the band, thats only 15-20 miles wide becomes stationary over one area, then yes, that area gets dumped on. Thats whats currently happening in the Southtowns below Buffalo (where the Bills Play), so yes, references Im seeing to the Bills and their game, and practice, etc. makes sense. Its a mess in that area. Trying to get that amount of snow moved to allow for 70,000 fans, stadium staff, or even get the players there from their homes (since they mostly live in that area), would be totally different circumstances compared to the UB game. UB sits in the Northtowns. Im in Niagara Falls, 20 miles North of Buffalo, and the sun is out. We are expecting this snow band to start moving North tomorrow. BUT, when it moves and continues to move, the snow amounts from it drop. Theyre calling for 3-6inches for me here in Niagara Falls. A little bit more in Amherst. But that happens tomorrow afternoon & evening. Currently theyre expecting the snow band to weaken overnight Saturday. In fact, they were pretty much predicting that the event would be over by kickoff of the Bills game on Sunday. So yes....postponing from Saturday makes sense.....Sunday, if the field can be cleaned off....it should be alright. And as I said in my last post, even with the snow south of Buffalo.....at this time.....you could drive here in be in Sun alot of the way. EDIT: For perspective on how variable the weather is here in WNY and how mere miles makes all the difference with these lake effect storms. In 2006, Downtown Buffalo got 24inches of snow in one afternoon. My wife got standed in Buffalo overnight at the water intake plant. In Niagara Falls, we still had green grass. In fact, in my area.....we get the most amount of snow from noreasters that go up the East Coast than any Lake effect off of Lake Erie. Reason being is with the Noreasters, the wind shifts and comes from the East/NE, thus causing Lake Effect enhancement off of Lake Ontario, and the most Ive seen from them is still only maybe 20". I wish sometimes for the Jim Cantore's of the world would do a better job of explaining this to people than "OMGawd.....3feet of snow!!!!!!". Hey Jim drive 5 miles north or south and show the viewers that too.

  15. How are they even going to make it to Detroit then if they haven't already left?

  16. Buffalo Bills cancelled practice today. Their players can't even drive 30 mins or less to attend practice, but delusional Canadians expect Akron to be there for the game. SMH.

  19. I wonder what all has been discussed this week. I feel that as soon as it was clear there was a chance of some weather, contingency plans should have been made for a bunch of different things. Monday or Tuesday, they should and could have done a few things: Find a location further south in the state that would not get hit by the storm, and make sure Akron has a route to this location unaffected by the storm. Logistically determine if there is indeed a location that could host, and go from there. Tell the teams to prepare for travel, one way or another Move the game to Akron. Immediately give UB the ultimatum I mentioned previously in the thread. With 5 days notice, Akron could have very very easily gotten ready to host. And UB could have thrown the stuff they needed on the truck with a night of overtime for the EQ staff, grab a couple buses, and take the long way to Akron. At the very least, they could have postponed the game the very second that the NFL moved their game, and gone from there. The teams were not told anything, and prepared as if they were playing a game tomorrow all along. Akron would be getting ready to leave shortly, to my knowledge the EQ truck has already left. What a cluster.

  20. If Buffalo, BG, and OU all finish 6-2 then UB would win the division since they have the best division record of the 3 teams.

  21. The issue with that is, as of right now, Buffalo needs the game in order to keep MAC-C hopes alive.

  29. It beats not playing the game for them. They need to win their last 2 games to have any chance of winning the MAC East and needs 1 more win to be bowl eligible. This game getting cancelled really wouldn't matter to Akron. Our season is already shot. Buffalo needs this game played otherwise there is a pretty decent chance they won't even make it to a bowl and no chance of representing the MAC East in Detroit.

  32. I would appreciate it if you went and rooted for the Zips and Browns. However, I just saw an article on a MSN page that said that the snowfall forecast may now be up to 6 feet and the NFL is exploring options to move the Browns Biills game to another date or location. No mention was made of the Zips Buffalo game. A problem is that the Bills play on Thanksgiving. I remember in November 1996 when where I live got 69 inches of snow over 3 days, and it nearly shut down the area. Here's to hoping the forecast is wrong. If you go, be safe and careful. Go Zips!!! I now see that LoyalZIP beat me to the punch in the link above. Sorry for the partial repeat.

  33. Maybe 20 years ago I travelled to see the Zips-Wisconsin in Madison on Saturday, and the Vikings-Packers in Lambeau on Sunday (I've been a Vikings fans since I was a little kid). It was one of my all time favorite weekends! But - it was in sunny September and not a blizzard November. 😁

  36. I think the bump in attendance was in large part due to the student attendance. They not only filled their regular section but helped fill in some of the ends quite a bit. The reserved season ticket seats were disappointingly empty. I too was quite impressed by how the team reacted to Tribble after the missed layup. That's TEAM-ISM.
