I think the Zips lax defense is probably still better than about half of the defenses in the MAC. As much as I hate the 2 losses in a row, this team is about what I expected heading into the MAC season and I need to keep that in mind. This team has two stars and a bunch of otherwise very average talent. The team just doesn't have the talent of the teams of the last 3 seasons. Ali, Dawson and Bandaogo would make this a different team. That's not to say the young kids won't develop into something special in time. What this team has in spades is heart and character and that will pull them through to some gritty wins (like PCCC) but the below prior standards talent can result in what we've seen in the last week. We'll survive and the kids will play their hearts out.3 points

Everyone needs to take a chill pill. All teams have a bad road conference game when the other team is hot. The Zips will be ready to go the rest of the season and in the MAC tournament.3 points

If we don’t beat EMU by 30 I’m going to donate my MAC tournament tickets to a children’s charity. I mean, Groce is losing this team. Out of control.3 points

The Zips head to Ypsilanti Tuesday to face Stan Heath and his EMU Emonis. The Emonis stand at 6-18/3-8 heading into today's game at Toledo. As the season has worn on, the Eagles have been more competitive. They've clearly improved since their 37 point drubbing here when Bates scored a mere 3 points and spent an inordinate amount of time whining and sitting on the bench with a towel over his head. Even with that poor performance, Bates averages an impressive 21.4 ppg, pressing X for being the league's leading scorer. He also leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 rpg. The Eagle have been able to score the ball on occasion but have the MAC's worst defense. Here's hoping this is the game to bring the Zips out of their malaise.2 points

If you would have asked me in November, I’d have probably said 9-3 after 12 games would be the best I would expect. Just got to get back on track. 2022 tempered me quite a bit, it’s almost weird how calm I am. If nothing else, Groce is helping smart bettors get a better price on a MAC title future. Go Zips! Big one for the women today2 points

Zips falling into the 4 seed this weekend. Not good. It’ll be hard to win the league from the 4 slot. I can’t remember the last time a team was able to overcome that kind of adversity. I guess Groce won’t be getting a bigger job after all.2 points

We need to clean up some defensive breakdowns and the supporting cast needs to step up more. But other than that I’m alright with burning the tape. Not our night.2 points

All the Kittens had to do to win by 9 was shoot 60% from 3 and 20-23 at the foul line. A net win, IMO. Everyone congratulate X on being named MAC player of the year!2 points

At least they are fighting hard until the end. We played some bad basketball and may lose by single digits.2 points

Nobody in the MAC is beating OU tonight the way they are shooting, but it sure would be nice to get offensive contributions from literally anyone outside of X and Freeman.2 points

I expect things to be difficult on road. Hang around and let’s steal a road kill. Now how we got treated like the visitors against Toledo last game still has me scratching my head.2 points

I keep having to remind myself we are without our 3rd best player - Dawson. Keep Calm and Groce in March.1 point

Following one of our early games, after watching how Nate moves, and his explosiveness, and how he can pass the ball with either hand, I wrote something along the lines of, “We have 3 future pros in X, Enrique, and Nate.” I still think he’s got an amazing upside, but his lack of aggressiveness is frustrating. I have more confidence in Nate than he does in himself. *By “future pros.” I’m not saying NBA.1 point

Groce went with Nate Johnson instead of Hunter and I know he had one nice drive and dish in the second half but he is very hesitant on offense and needs to learn to go for the ball and rebound. I cannot remember him pulling down a rebound tonight and he probably played 30 minutes. He is a frosh but I just don't understand when you get a chance to shine you do not play with more aggressiveness.1 point

It's been a long season, and he and X carry the team. I'm not rationalizing but if the Zips were rolling right now, I would be wondering when they were going to hit the wall. They get an extra day before EMU. Give the guys some rest.1 point

Zip offense has actually been fine. Lots of easy looks manufactured all around. Relatively smart in transition. Just not our night. Remember March 12, 2022. We’ll be cool.1 point

No reason to overreact to single wins and losses. It's a long season. They'll be fine.1 point

wow, 70-52. Time for panic posting: "has Groce lost the team?" "Melissa Jackson on line 2."1 point

Gonna date myself here but I was a freshman Jakubick's senior year and I also had the pleasure of watching Mark Alberts fill it up. MAN what I wouldn't give for an 'automatic' to take the pressure off X and Freeman.1 point

as Clark said during the last Ohio game, go ahead and double X and leave Freeman open. Toledo's response: Why not both? Ohio took up that challenge.1 point

They shoot an air ball and their guy gets a layup. That is just plain luck. Tribble letting his man cut to the basket and ball watching, that is bad defense.1 point

Can't think of a more Akron thing to happen than follow up the biggest win of the season with two of the worst performances.1 point

I would love to see us build a pipeline from Hoban to UA, but only with the right kids. I watched the Hudl highlights of him and had to chuckle at his :18 block. reminded me of one of the scenes from Blind Side. I also wondered about his foot speed while at the line. After getting going he seemed to move OK, but when on the line he appeared to have slow feet. Perhaps others feel differently. I bet Joe has better talent coming.1 point

It didn't help Kent scheduled Washington, Georgia, and Oklahoma. They do themselves no favors with how they schedule. It's no surprise their coach bolted to be an OC elsewhere1 point
