  1. When he first accepted the Akron gig I think Joe could have gone to 10 other places that would have paid him more. The opportunities won't stop now that he's here. College, and occasionally NFL teams will annually put him on their interview list. I just don't see him leaving until he gets the job done. He's here for the right reasons - the chance to run his own program again, a decent salary (you can live pretty nicely on $700k in the Akron area), and for whatever reason...like all of us hard-core supporters...he actually believes in the potential of Zips football. Faust famously called Akron a "sleeping giant" when he came on campus back in the mid 80's. We've been asleep ever since, thanks to horrible facilities, horrible hires and overall administrative ineptitude. It's amazing how many 1-AA teams have ascended to 1-A since the Zips were the first to do so back in 1985. And every single one of them has been more competitive than the Zips. To me, Joe is our first legitimate chance to get off the 38-year schneid. He wants to be here...he's got the facilities...he's a brilliant guy...he's a proven winner...if he can't do it, no one can. Stay the F away, NFL. You don't need Joe. We do.

  2. Correct but they may keep extending him, bigger buy out for Akron, it’s an insurance policy.

  3. I haven't missed a men's MAC tournament game that is open to the public since the 2010 quarterfinals. Didn't get to see the Steve McNees game live. I remember listening to Groce pound Kent on the radio later that night. Been to every MAC tournament game I'm allowed to since then. 2021 QF weren't open to the public for some reason, that's it. My favorite week of the year. Sticking around after the 82-46 behind-whooping at the hands of Buffalo was well worth it to see CMU run Kent off the floor in 2019, for example.

  6. The inexplicable CMU and Buffalo losses hid the progress the 2022 Zips made in the eyes of Joe Akron. A lot of people just read the box scores, or subscribe to the "You are what your record says you are" mentality. We need to get some more mature bodies signed up after the Spring game. Especially on defense. And we really need 5-6 wins, at minimum, next season. Then the progress is undeniable.

  7. The new era of Zips baseball starts this weekend Cullowhee, NC as we take on the Western Carolina Catamount. They're looking at temps in the 50's with a chance of rain Friday morning. The games are on ESPN+. PLAY BALL!!!

  9. Top 5 HS/JUCO Cornerbacks (in my opinion): OHIO - Byron Pearson HUDL FILM BUFFALO - Charles McCartherens HUDL FILM EASTERN MICHIGAN - Jaheim Jenkins HUDL FILM CENTRAL MICHIGAN - Jamari Allen HUDL FILM BUFFALO - Jayden Lewis HUDL FILM Cornerback was the position group I struggled with the most. Some of the players listed as Cornerbacks by the recruiting services look like safeties to me or mostly played in the box in HS, so I did not include them as CB. I was hesitant to list Jayden Lewis here as he mostly played Nickel and on offense, but did play some on the outside as a CB. I decided to include him since he’s an impressive athlete and Buffalo listed him as CB. If there was a 6th and 7th slot I would include our two CBs. I feel similar about the other position groups in where our guys weren’t far off from the top 5 and in the end may prove they deserved to be there. Take it for what’s it’s worth as all I have to judge on is highlight film and have not seen any of these players in person (except DT Sid Kaba who is absolutely as good as his billing).

  10. Last year, one ticket got you four games on Thursday. It appears to be setup the same way with only 30 minutes between games.

  11. I suspect JoeMo will receive more and more interest as the years go on, especially as this program starts winning games consistently. Akron really is a sleeping giant with the staff and facilities in place. The team’s success this year will catch almost everyone by surprise outside of the fanbase and coaching circles. Or maybe some in the fanbase will still be surprised?

  12. Molly has been a real leader the past 5-6 games. Dominique was "what the heck?" that last possession, thought we had given it away. But she seemed more into the assist game last night than scoring. Rachel is not only not scoring but seems invisible out there. And just about the time I'm asking why Alexis is on the floor she hits a couple big shots or gets a big steal, so kudos to her. But it was a needed win, that's for sure. The cheerleaders put on a HECK of a show with their Nationals performance last night though! Wow!

  15. Hell of a win. They did all they could to let it go at the end, but that was a very important win for this team. Onto Kent!

  18. I find it simply staggering that there are so many folks on the EMU board that feel Bates and his whole situation isn't an issue and that the team would be far worse without him. It blows my mind. Trimble didn't have nearly the negative impact here that Bates does at EMU, and it was still an understandable, yet difficult, decision to kick him to the curb and go from there. Like, awesome, he hit a few contested step-back 3s in a couple of their 5 wins with him playing this year. Last night, he missed no fewer than 4 of those alone. And then he went 1-fer against Akron and quit in the middle of the game. I've been rooting against the Eagles all year and will continue to. Stan Heath is a bum, Bates is a bum, and that program doesn't deserve to compete for a title in Cleveland.

  19. Closer than it should have been, but what the heck Northern Illinois beat Bowling Green at the Stroh Center tonight! Martindale has had trouble popping open for a while now.
