This is kinda random but you know who undercuffler reminds me of...? Alex Ramart. Change my mind.2 points

I think this is the most accurate take on this thread. Yes, a “winning” program would get more people out. But that would be a winning MAC program vs Ohio State. We would need to be ranked for people to even notice that the football team is any good. If you ask any students that have started after 2018, they will all say the same thing without even thinking about it “The football team sucks”. I even had my best friend, who is a huge sports fan, at the Buffalo game ask me if we were FBS or FCS! When we have these buy games against P5 schools, students especially those that aren’t that in tuned to CFB, see that we lose 66-6 against Michigan State and just say “oh yeah that’s akron!” I honestly say that winning won’t solve everything. I mean the soccer team has been top 5 all year and I don’t think there has been a game attended more than 2500 yet. There definitely is something to having a gameday experience. Even if the team is 8-0, not that many people are going to want to come to a 4 hour long game on a Tuesday night when it’s 35 degrees when there is absolutely no entertainment for an excessive amount of TV timeouts. CFB is simply made for TV.2 points

I thought they had done it before but my memory fades with age. I don't care if they serenade 5 people, it beats the blaring music we have now. I bet the students would also have fun roaming the stadium with their intruments entertaining the crowd1 point

In all fairness to Undercuffler, I once said the same thing. Funny enough, it was in the first half of that NIU game last year. A few throws later and we blew them out. That said, he is probably close to Ramart on the list of worst QBs to ever start a game for Akron, at least in the last 20 years.1 point

Why can't they do both? During the three minute time out, they can spend 90 seconds recognizing an important member or business of the community for their support in an an organized way in which the crowd can hear and understand what the PA announcer is saying. Then they can spend the other 90 seconds playing music and dancing around. 90 seconds is a long time. Wake Forest manages to do this several times a game. Why can't Akron? It doesn't seem all that difficult. As crazy as this sounds, it almost seems as if Wake Forest spends some time during the week preparing for this activity. Maybe Akron could spend some time during the week organizing. Here is some advice. Step one, write a script to honor someone that lasts 60 seconds allowing 30 seconds for stepping onto the field and waving at the end. Read the script out loud to make sure it fits into the allotted time. If too long, shorten. If too short, add a little. Step two, tell the band and dance team when they will be performing and for how long. They are to prepare materials to last 90 seconds. Practice during the week to make sure everything fits in allotted time slot. If too long, shorten. If too short, add some. There, problem solved. Not everyone is going to pay attention to everything, but if someone does want to pay attention, they can understand what in the heck is going on. It really isn't hard to professionally produce a football game. Akron just makes it more difficult than it needs to be.1 point

True ... but ... as I understand it the key to a second - third- fourth- transfer and immediate eligibility is to already graduate. And it's my understanding Ali (when he transferred back to Akron) had not graduated. Has he graduated since then? I don't know. If he has, he should be eligible. If he has not, then he has to appeal, and that is not an automatic yes ... If he graduates at the semester break, will he be eligible then? I have no answers, just questions. PS ... With or without him, this should be a MAC/NCAA contender.1 point

During the long tv timeouts, have a a small group of the band go throughout the stadium and do a 2-3 minute quickie song. It could be the drum line, tubas, trombones, or flutes do a mini concert. Have the dance team do a routine like they do during basketball timeouts. Do something other than have people get awards that nobody hears or listens to.1 point

I am late to this but I grew up under the acme zip game era. The great thing about those games were 30k people there to enjoy local high school bands, fireworks, sky divers etc. It was an event driven by cheap tickets. I so wish they would try this again and maybe a bunch of people who have never experienced a game may want to come back and see them? The ticket prices are way too high for the product that is on the field, see if acme can subsidize one game a year and see what happens.1 point

DePaul played #25 Illinois Chicago today. DePaul came into the game with a 1-6-2 overall record....and DePaul is currently 0-3-0 in the Big East. Excellent result today for DePaul. DePaul upset #25 Illinois Chicago 3-1 https://depaulbluedemons.com/news/2023/10/4/mens-soccer-depaul-upends-no-25-uic-3-1-on-wednesday-at-wish-field.aspx1 point

they are cracking down on transfers for sure. A lot of crying this year about a former Kent St wr not being given eligibility at UNC. To me, Ali's case is a little more straight forward. He used his one time transfer already, and should be able to use his grad transfer option now. I don't know all the facts, but on its face, it seems pretty cut and dry.1 point

I don’t know what’s up with the Twitter links. Here’s the direct link to YouTube. A few takeaways: - Defensive front 7 is playing really well. Lavea probably had his best game. Linebackers are playing lights out. - Hopeful to get Behm and Cooper back in the rotation this week. Mentioned Griffin playing, but did not mention Murphy along the DL. - Adler is coming on and has been reliable. - Spoke briefly about all 3 safeties at different points - Martin, Thomas, Thompson. - When asked about the freshmen: DE Kam Cheatom is going to be a star and DT Marcus Moore has a high upside. - Myles Walker probably took the biggest development leap of anyone on the roster over the offseason. - Not Wiley’s fault on the missed FG and he will be the starter again. Has made 50+ yarders in practice. - Jackson and the punt team have been really good on punts. Haven’t given up a Net punt yard yet. Hang time has improved this year. - Offensively, Lingard and Anderson are complimentary backs and need to get them the ball more. - NIU is very similar us in regards to how their games have gone. Their offense hasn’t changed much from last year, but their defense is much improved under the new DC.1 point

The tv timeouts are killing even me. I MUCH prefer the pace of the high school games. 2 hours. Long enough.1 point

Unpopular opinion: Start Dijon Jennings. Why? Well, because why not at this point? I can only stand 3 interceptions from Undercuffler per every outing of his.1 point

We really are the Nebraska of the MAC. Joe taking over was like Scott Frost coming to the rescue in Lincoln, only for close losses to go from signs of encouragement to the expectation.1 point

Could be a blessing in disguise. Hopefully this forces the ball into Lingard and Anderson’s hands more often.1 point

This is so damn true. The combination of the Catalina Wine Mixer atmosphere (suits walking around shaking hands, kissing babies) combined with a Rick Pitino recruiting trip (night club music constantly played) is not a good mix for a college football gameday. The stadium announcer continues to be awful. The marketing is stale. And the football is awful. I've been quite complimentary of Guthrie up to this point, but he is missing some key details to elevate the Akron experience.1 point

Over the past 5 or 6 years I can't tell you how many times I've been in Lot 9 and had people in suits and dresses come up to me asking "Is this Hummel Funeral Home"? I always reply - "First, I'm sorry for your loss. And, no, this is actually an Akron Zips football game. Hummel is across the street."1 point

We may have a case of AOC. That is where the Akron air sucks all of the imagination out of the Offensive Coordinator. Combine AOC and a QB with a penchant for poor decision making and an inability to fling an accurate long pass and you've got trouble.1 point

In the first half I noticed a knee brace and a limp, he must be dealing with a injury... possibly all year could be the cause of his low productivity1 point

Without getting into any debates over the logo, I will say, in my opinion, it is way too basic, simple and unsexy. I'll never buy a piece of Zips gear with that logo. Why anyone would create something so basic, focusing on an "A" which is common to about 100 universities (Alabama, Auburn, Albany, Arkansas, etc), is beyond me. When athletic directors build their resume they usually want to tout stats saying they "created a new branding that increased gear sales by XXX%". It won't happen with this "A". It's is a whiff. If you like the new logo, great. I have no desire to debate it's merits. I just think it is lame... unimaginative... and boring. I'll wait for the next AD in a few years and see what he/she has to offer. In the interim I'll just wash my "Z" and "Roo-A" logo stuff on the gentle cycle.1 point

I cannot determine what I hate most. The very long TV timeouts. The loud music that gives me a headache. The speakers cannot take the high volume and it sounds distorted even if I like the music which is about a quarter of the time. Also, I like the chairback and now 80% of those seats are covered up at the opposing sideline. I will say the band stays engaged but that was about it until it bacame 4th down and we heard a little croud noise and the Zips were on defense. Of course they made the 4th down play.0 points

The block AKRON actually is part of the logo and branding, so that doesn't really have anything to do with the logo being a mistake, poor planning, etc. The biggest mistake in it all is the lack of funding to make it a full sweep across the board, which explains the slow roll-out of gear available for the public.0 points
