Hoping this will be an opportunity for Prather and Lyles to get some minutes and for our guards (including Tavari) to work to polish some things. We need at least solid guard play to make any kind of run this year.4 points

There's really no time to enjoy this with Miami Hamilton right around the corner! 🤪4 points

When it came down to crunch time, Groce went to the 2 biggest guys on the court, Ali and Freeman. Great execution and great hands and finish by Freeman. We still need to work on our failure to take care of the ball. We had 2 crucial turnovers at the end of the game. When it was time to inbound the ball, it is not a good sign when the announcer indicates there is confusion on the Akron bench regarding who is to inbound the ball and then a lazy pass and turnover. We lack an experienced point guard who can handle the ball and be trusted at the end of the game. I love Tribble but he is out of position as a point guard.3 points

The Miami Hamilton Harriers come to the JAR to face the Zips next Sunday. The Harriers are 5-5. According to their website "The Hamilton Harrier Men's Basketball team has been one of the best teams in the USCAA for the past two seasons. Winning 42 games and only losing 17 games with an Elite Eight and National Runner-Up finishes in the USCAA National Tournament." The USCAA is "An organization bringing small colleges together not just for athletic competition; more importantly, it is an organization bringing colleges together who have common goals and perspectives in higher education." The entire team appears to be from the southwest Ohio area and the two biggest team's biggest players are 6'6". Their website has very little info about the team and no stats. Get there early. Seats are limited.2 points

We made plenty of mistakes down the stretch, but that defense with 3.6 left was perfect by everyone. Especially Tribble for contesting the ball handler while making sure he didn’t foul. If Tribble’s shorts had pockets I think he would’ve put his hands in them just to make sure he didn’t get called for reaching. Well done.2 points

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/39079152/nagbe-morris-instrumental-columbus-crews-mls-cup-win There was admiration from opponents too. LAFC and former Italy international Chiellini, who knows a thing or two about quality attacking players, had nothing but positive things to say about Darlington Nagbe. "He's an example for everyone and every player that he played with," Chiellini said. "And watching the games of Columbus, you can understand how much he's important as a player, but as a good leader, and he has a good value. He's a hard worker, very generous, and then helps all the teammates close to him to play better. [He's] not in the shine many times but I think he is a really the heart of this team."2 points

I am just copying a small portion of the glowing words that they write about the GOAT https://www.goal.com/en-us/lists/darlington-nagbe-cucho-hernandez-columbus-crew-lafc-mls-cup/blt9698775b430b1e73 Name your all-time MLS greats: Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, Sebstian Giovinco, Diego Valeri, Jaime Moreno... whoever. No matter what generation you're from, what era of MLS made you fall in love with the game, you have to include Nagbe among any list discussing the best this league has ever seen.2 points

The game ended 5 minutes ago and I see you've already started the Miami-Hamilton thread. You are strictly business! 😂2 points

High level game thus far. The Zips just look so much better. And Ali is a threat to score at all levels.2 points

Only 3 4Q points for Eric but did have the and-1 at the end of the game to seal the W for Moeller, 55-51 (IIRC - they reset the scoreboard as soon as the game was over). Eric was named game MVP. I do wish maybe he’d be a little more forceful in calling for the ball, but he looks like the proverbial “coaches dream,” as you can tell he’s a super nice kid, really encouraged his teammates, & really looks to pass the ball. Appeared to always play w/in the system. He must’ve really blossomed this past summer b/c I’m surprised he only averaged <4 PPG last year. He looks very comfortable on the floor.2 points

South Dakota State just beat Wichita State by 10, in Wichita. Wichita State was 7-2, with losses to Mizzouri, Liberty, and now South Dakota State. South Dakota State improves to 5-5. Their losses include Akron, Kansas State, UCF (by 3), George Mason (by 2), and PCCC (by 9). They've beaten 2 non-D1 schools, Southern Miss (by 11 - @ Southern Miss), and now Wichita State. Good road win by Akron to start the season.1 point

Decent first half. Could have made a few more shots. Keep the intensity up in the second half.1 point

I'd hate to face the scoreboard operator in a Wild West quick draw. Faster trigger finger this side of the Mississippi.1 point

4 points for Eric in the 3rd Q. A put back and a drive the length of the floor finishing with a thunderous tomahawk dunk that even got STVM fans gasping, “Oooooooooh!!!”1 point

Entertaining first half. 2 good high school teams. Eric looks good. He’s the best player and athlete on the floor. He’s “only” 6’3” but he’s long & has really nice shoulders for a high school kid. He’s aggressive enough but not a ball hog. He’s got a nice, smooth shot & is currently 1-of-2 from 3-point range. He’s got two GREAT, aggressive drives to the hoop for scores and one put back. So I guess that gives him 9 1st half points. He can handle the ball pretty well with both hands & should probably have 2 more baskets if his teammates would have delivered not so poor of passes as he was cutting to the basket.1 point

Which is inevitable. The rich want to get richer. they will eventually start feeding of themselves as college football is wrecked in the uppermost division.1 point
