PCCC gets another transfer, this time from Boston U. 6'8" F Anthony Morales. Played in 17 games last year and averaged 10.7 ppg and 4.3 rpg. He's a stretch 4 that had some big time performances in the Patriot League. Not sure if it was injury or eligibility that kept him out for the first month of the season, but his first game wasn't until 12/10. Roller coaster type player that seems to disappear completely for some games, and explode in others. You also may recognize him from his Academy Award Winning performance in the Disney movie "Encanto" where he played Bruno.6 points

Jihad entering the portal leaves just one player of the 20 from the All-MAC teams. I wish Dawson the best. Seems like a good kid. Any shortcomings in his game were not the result of a lack of effort as he always played hard.5 points

Not the best stats for Dawson to try to entice a good program off the portal. I wonder if he ever really got back to 100% after his injury? He didn't drive to the basket like he did before. We'll see who comes in. Maybe Groce had some success on the recruiting trail. Once a Zip, always a Zip. Best of luck Mikal!!5 points

Had a really rough year coming back from injury. Was not the same player as last year. Rarely attacked the basket and just settled for a 3 point shot. Further, he did not shoot the ball well from long range. I would think the coach guided him to seek another team but that is mere conjecture. Although he was a great guy, this is addition by subtraction with regard to how the team will be next year.5 points

Thank for the input and info. I’ll say I am not a fan of NIL but I am not trying to run it thru a grinder here either. Just trying to understand NIL a little better and how UA adapting to it. Not opposed to players benefitting, but scholarships (room/board/food,etc..) to pay for college are pretty good too. I think the combination of NIL and the Portal are what are really rubbing me the wrong way. And NIL being used to get players to basically pay players to come to a school is wrong. I trust it never was the intent but how it’s being applied you have to be pretty naïve to think otherwise. College sports has a certain meaning to me. It’s what I am grounded in. Kids changing schools every year and chasing money in these moves is not what college sports are about in my opinion. It is really changing my interest in the game. There has to be some $ limits somewhere. If a young man or woman are looking for the $ or feel they are owed/deserve the $ because what the university, NCAA, coaches are making; then go pro. That is where an athlete gets paid due to their athletic ability. A few other thoughts: Colleges like UA. · Where do they end up? · They can’t raise funds like the big boys. · I hope they don’t have to pay NIL to get certain caliber players. This is a vicious downward spiraling circle. · I am like others and assume the big boys will separate. So be it, but then how much $ have to be spent to be at the top of a second tier group My legions to UA · I am a long time season ticket holder. And a modest contributor to the school and athletics. · I really follow the ZIPS and not many other schools · That said I have little interest to donate $ for the purpose of paying players. · So I prefer to donate to the school athletics. · But I am not going to throw more and more money to keep up with the Jones (other schools) to pay for top players. I’ll pause for a moment and stop pouting. It’s hard to be enthusiastic and excited when the future is so uncertain. Hoping you guys here can make me feel better about all this stuff……………..5 points

Seemed implausible that no Zip would enter the portal. Dawson was on the floor in the last few seconds of the MAC Championship game. He's had two tournament titles and trips to NCAA. Will miss him and hope, like everyone does, that he will end up in a good spot.4 points

May have just needed a change of scenery too. Has to be a little weird to see Freeman, Tribble, and Ali all graduate and still be here. I honestly don't think it hurts us that much but I do wish him the best, he seems like a wonderful young man.4 points

It's a nice arena. Pretty bare bones in terms of decor in the common areas. Decent amount of concession space. Nice padded seats all around. Nice scoreboard and ribbon boards. Good sized parking deck right next door. All paid for by the local government, not JMU. Not a palace and not a dump. Still has that new arena smell. We will see how it ages.3 points

My buddy pointed out the obvious question- what happened between Senior Day when he had decided to stay and today when he decided to leave?1 point

Everyone says he's more of an NBA-type talent, not college. That's not exactly the description of a guy Groce would go after.1 point

VC is what I've been using. They had the Dawson news 3 hours ago. I keep the Transfers page up at my desk while at work - fascinating to watch everyone go into the Portal. I wonder if a few of those high school offers we have out there still will come back into play. 2 Portal, 1 HS?1 point

Maybe if @clarkwgriswold wins the powerball, he can replenish his collective.1 point

I would agree. I was pounding the drum for him prior to the season and man, he just never found his game all year. On top of his poor shooting and lack of dribble drives, he made a lot of bone-headed mistakes. Trying too hard, maybe, but it was all year long. Frustrating.1 point

He is heading for the Dukes to play for Dru. Lebron plays one more year and then joins the Dukes staff as an assistant coach to coach his son and build a dynasty in Pittsburgh. You heard it here first.1 point

That's because at NIU he was the #2 scoring option. At Akron he was relegated to being a distant #3 option as he had 2 All-MAC players ahead of him in the pecking order. If you have the ball in your hands less and you take fewer shots, naturally you're going to score less. At Akron he was pretty much asked to be a 3 & D role player. That's the role he filled. I wasn't necessarily thrilled with his performance here, but we pretty much got what we recruited.1 point

I thought Hankerson was fine. Not a bust, not a star, but solid player in his role. I believe his stats went up here vs NIU. Thornton definitely more disappointing.1 point

I would think Finley has to be penciled in as the starter with Tahj a situational running option1 point
