  1. I admire your optimism. This program desperately needs a win. The last win for the Akron men's soccer team was on October 10, 2023. That was 332 days ago. In Akron's last 5 games of 2023, Akron had a record of 0 wins , 2 losses and 3 ties. Akron has started the season with a record of 0 wins, 1 loss and 3 ties. That means that Akron's record over the last 9 games is 0 wins ; 3 losses and 6 ties. At the end of 2018, there is not a single zip fan that could have imagined going 9 games without a single win. That being said, this team has many talented players. They played very well at Notre Dame and at Western Michigan. They could have earned a win in each game. The 2018 national final team had a record of 6-6-2 or 6-6-1 at one point. That team finished with a record of 15-7-2. When I look at the lineup for that 2018 team, I see Midfield - Skye Harter, Morgan Hackworth, freshman Sam Tojaga Defense - Carol Ritaccio, Marco Milanese, Abdi Mohammed, Daniel Strachan Forward and winger - David Egbo, Colin Biros and Marcel Zajac When I look at the talent on this 2024 team, I honestly think that this 2024 team has more talent than the 2018 national finalist team. the talent in the midfield.....on this team....is much , much better ....in my never a soccer player Opinion Maximus Barboto was all ECAC as a freshman and sophomore...He was also named to the top drawer soccer 100 best players in college soccer list Victor Gaulmin - division 3 all american for his last 3 years at St. Olaf Caleb Borneo - was rated by top drawer soccer(TDS) as one of the top 50 recruits in the 2023 recruiting class. About 30 to 35 of the TDS top 50 went pro and did not go to college. Caleb Borneo has the skill set to do great things at Akron. Matt Dreas and WKWK.....compare very favorably to a young Sam Tojaga Defense I love the collection of outside back talent on this team Malik Henry, Ashton Kamdem, James Buebendorf and Josh Hardin are all high quality. Jonas Buechte was a preseason All Big East team pick.....Jonas is as good or better than Ritaccio or Milanese Forwards and Wingers Emil J. scored 43 goals at LIU. Before the 2023 season started, Emil was selected to the TDS pre season top 11. I prefer Emil J......over David Egbo from 2018 Stefan D....was a top 100 rated recruit Dyson Clapier......Before the 2023 season started, Dyson was rated as the 4th best college player in the nation by TDS. We all remember that the 2018 season was saved when Marcel Zajac went on an unbelievable spell of incredible, top notch soccer. Does Dyson or Stefan have the ability to do what Zajac did in 2018? That is to be determined. This team.....has a lot of new faces. They have the talent to recover from an 0-1-3 start. It will not be easy. The coaches will need to make adjustments and continue to learn what each new player is capable of. The players will have to focus for a full 90 minutes and they will have to keep each other positive. They need to get several wins in a row before the Big East season begins.

  3. Homecoming for him. If he’s ever going to put it all together, Saturday would be as good a time as any.

  4. There's OT in tournaments because each game requires a team to advance. In the regular season, as in the pros (regular season and group stage), points awarded for wins and draws determine conference tournament seedings. If you look back at 2019 as an example, OT may not be the answer to improving the ZMSOC record. 6-10-2: 2 OT losses, 2 OT draws, 0 OT Wins, I believe.

  5. Raise the rent for the lacrosse team. Seriously…I don’t have much admiration for a guy that comes in and says “I wouldn’t have built that stadium” and gets off the hook for life. If we were in the Rubber Bowl the responsible parties would be bemoaning “If only we had a modern stadium, then I could really take the program to the next level…”. You can't have it both ways. It’s Guthrie’s job to fill Infocision seats and increase revenue. I don’t see the creativity or effort. Is it easy? No. But holding your hand out for the ESPN and Ohio State welfare checks…who needs an AD if that’s the best you’ve got? $45 mill over 20 year is a chump change ante to be a division 1 football program. Build that stadium today and it’d cost at least $250 million. If Guthrie is any good, he should be on the short list for a P5 job by now. Wonder who’s sizing him up?

  8. I totally agree with you. This team has more talent. Unfortunately, the talent of NCAA men's soccer has also improved overall since 2018. But you are right, and I hope that anybody, not just Stefan or Dyson can go nuts on the pitch...beginning tonight!

  9. We weren't always losing (not when I played). When was the support ever good (besides an Acme/Zip game). Basketball has been good year after year and support is meh. I don't understand what goggles people are looking through.

  11. This got me interested so I Googled it. Thanks for mentioning it. What Toledo did to start the year promoting athletics is more than impressive. It's almost as if they are using their athletic department to benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general community. With some effort....... https://utrockets.com/news/2024/8/21/athletics-rocket-week-begins-aug-22-to-kick-off-2024-25-season.aspx

  12. Everything you say is true except for one fact that you omitted. The $5 million a year in debt service for the stadium. That money is considered part of the Athletic Department budget. There is currently a $45 million balance still due on the original $60 million price rag for the stadium. It's going to take another 20 years to pay off that debt. No other MAC Athletic department has that kind of debt hanging over them. You can thank those previous AD's who got the thing built for this situation. They have all moved on to bigger and better paydays while the current administration has to deal with the consequences.

  13. Zips will host #13 VCU (according to coaches' poll) tomorrow. Does anyone even realize this? Akron Hosts No. 13 VCU - University of Akron Athletics (gozips.com) If Zips MSOC plays a match, and no one comes to watch, does the inevitable draw still count as one point?

  15. This team is going to learn they're not talented enough to finesse goals, but they are talented enough to create goals, meaning getting the ball in the box will lead to good things.

  16. You know how to take the lead, but do you know how to keep the lead? That's really the most important part of the lead.

  20. I assume lots of intramural use too? People think it sits completely unused, sans 5 sparsely attended games per year. Not true. Selling 10k more tickets per game would bring in another $1 million in revenue ($20 per fan x 5 games x 10,000). If you want to do something, you find a way. If you don't, you find an excuse.

  21. I don't feel it has to be an either or. Likely all 3 things contributed to declined attendance.

  22. The stadium does host lots of special events, although most are in the club level in the tower. The tower itself does get good use with the esports facility, academic facilities on floors 3&4, as well as the alumni office. I do wish we could host more concerts, but I can't imagine having blossom (a venue of similar capacity specifically made for concerts) less than 30 minutes away helps with that

  23. The real issue may of been the 2 horrible coaching hires during the stadiums life. The first one not only being a bad coach but the guy came off as a jerk all time. This stunted the excitement from Joe Akron in only the 3rd season of the stadium.

  25. That's the kind of community support to expect when you have a winning program. Zips football has been such a loser that no one is interested in being part of it.

  27. Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA......did something tonight...that the zips were unable to do on Labor Day Cleveland, OH. - It was a historic night for the Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team as they not only picked up their first win of the season by defeating Cleveland State 2-0, but it was their first win as a Division 1 program.
