  1. Just wait until they start saying God declined the offer for them. "I was very blessed to receive an offer from (insert school), but God has other intentions for me. Recruiting is still open. #Blessed"

  3. Hi Zips fans. Men’s soccer player Emil Jaaskelainen is a semi-finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy which is the college soccer version of the Heisman. Please vote at the link below. Go Zips! https://machermanntrophy.com/2024-mens-fan-voting/?gf_protect_submission=1

  4. He could if the staff would have him back, but doubtful he will return. I do wonder if part of the reason he left was due to Sean Patrick waiting in the wings. I can’t wait to see that kid on the field.

  5. According to 247, he had 2 offers - Kent and Eastern Kentucky. So often in Ohio these types of accolades don't yield much FBS-level interest. I'm sure he made the right choice as Kenni Burns and his staff have a track record of coaching up their players...

  6. Never saw a tweet like this before. I pray this doesn't become a thing 🙄🤦‍♂️

  7. Bullock walked down the center of the field on senior day. I assume that means he isn't coming back? He's pretty limited as far as being a D1 starter. He didn't show much as a WR. He's a senior (too late to mold him into something else). Maybe a desperate FCS program would give him a good opportunity to start at QB or WR, but I can't imagine and FBS program would covet him. If he wants to play FBS football and get a free education in 2025, the Zips seem to be hands-down his best shot. With Norton and a couple other WR's leaving, there is a huge void at receiver. He's a great athlete. It would be nice if he started focusing solely on WR and honed his skills. Brookhart could coach him up and he could do some great things next year. If we need him as a wildcat on 3rd or 4th and short, he could still do it.

  8. Exactly! As long as other departments and organizations can use athletics as a negotiating tool to protect their turf, things will never improve. If other programs had to operate under the financial reporting requirements fostered on Athletics, every one of them would look terrible.

  9. UA administration needs to look at what they can do to make the program better rather than what they can cut. Cutting is the cheap, cowardly solution to the problem. Improvement is the only way out. It is also harder but pays the greatest dividends. It's time to for leaders to learn payday games do not solve problems, rather they make them worse. If there is money available to fund a $1.3M sponsorship with the Browns there is money to field a competitive football program.

  11. We will soon. I’m sure plenty of offers have already gone out for other positions too. A number of portal guys don’t care for the pomp and circumstance a second time around.

  12. Can we put a sponsor's logo on our football jerseys? One Goodyear logo wouldn't look too bad. NBA does it.

  14. I voted once yesterday and once today. I am going to keep voting once a day until the voting ends. Emil truly had a very elite season and is very deserving of winning the Hermann trophy.

  15. From what I heard he was in a good position to be the #2 back this season, but was injured in camp.

  16. Oh, Lou..... The current era in CFB is undesirable and disappointing in many ways, but Holtz can't/shouldn't romanticize the past either. It was never clean and never about academics no matter how we choose to remember it. Teamwork and character? Booster payments, academic fraud, racking up hundreds of victories in a century against teams that were either helpless or underfunded. So what's really changed?

  17. Kellom gave up his scholarship w/ us to test the TP waters. Risky... but if we don't sign a TP RB I suppose he could come back?

  22. I’m confident in saying we have no chance at landing Ashford. He’s looking to finish out his last year as a starter at a P4 and get paid. He looked the best he’s looked in his career after spending a season with Mike Shula. Ashford had no chance at beating out a healthy LaNorris Sellers, so he hit the portal. I’m not sure what Thompson’s situation is, but a number of the AAC schools have an NIL presence and if he’s looking for some $, that immediately eliminates us. I doubt Finley is afraid of a QB competition if another QB is brought in. He came in knowing he’d have to compete with Bullock for the starting role. The question is does Bullock stay? His people reached out to Rutgers last year and was turned down. Now that he’s shown his versatility, other schools may be interested. If that came to pass, we’d probably have to bring in someone who saw a path to becoming a starter in a year.

  23. As is Robby Ashford. That said, unless Finley or Bullock decide to leave, we are probably set at QB for 2025.

  24. It's good to see we will be competing against a bad decision maker for at least a year until he transfers out and is blessed with an offer from another school.

  25. The annual budget is approximately $260 million. The $1.3 million we got from OSU is a drop in the bucket. Imagine what they could do if they stopped playing shell games with the athletic departments money. To me, it's not about the money. It's about the purpose of athletic department. Figure that out and there is a different perspective on the money.

  29. Everything said about that Kent offense is accurate and on the money. Actually puzzling considering what some of those transfers averaged last season vs. now. But that defense is very, very good. Yes, Kent only scored 39 points vs. Cal-Irvine (Kenpom 56), but that was without their no. 2 scorer. Meanwhile, Irvine only scored 51 points against Kent. Auburn (Kenpom No. 1) averages 89 ppg, but only scored 79 against Kent. Kent is probably not a MAC championship team, or even MAC contender, with the offense they currently have. But, using last years MAC Tournament as an example, holding teams to 59, 60, 62 points, if that defense (no team shot better than 39% FG) can turn it up for three games in March, they will be a hand full.

  31. We've already seen it. Bowden had an 8-5 season and it didn't change anything. It would take prolonged success before Joe Akron's opinion of the program would ever change.

  32. If the new AD wants to get a buy game on the schedule, swap out Duquesne for a P4. That is a move I'd be ok with. Do not touch Wyoming or UAB. Nebraska, Wyoming, UAB, and another P4 would be a fun OOC schedule. The fascination programs have with FCS/DII/DIII programs in football & basketball for "wins" is baffling to me.

  33. I hope they have the guts to give it one year, give the team the chance to get out of OOC with 2 or even 3 wins and get a bowl game. Then see how that chargers the program. Here's hoping.

  34. I was at a trivia event tonight when the category of four-letter words that start with Z came up. The question was the University of Akron's sports teams have this nickname. I got it (but several other teams did not). 🤣
