  4. Getting to go to a bowl game and experience that for the players may be something to keep more of them here if the alternative is meager NIL money somewhere else. Yes, I'd rather have the bowl game.

  5. I just read that g league players make $40,000 a year unless they are on a 2 way contract like Freeman who makes around $500,000, half the NBA minimum. Therefore, Nate is now making the most money he will probably ever make in his career. In other words, his salary will peak as a college player. I hate that he transferred but I cannot blame him for making this move. This is college athletics. Akron is the G league for major conferences.

  6. The opponent quality is also true. However, to be fair, in at least one of those games, we beat ourselves with turnovers, penalties, and other self-induced chaos. The final margins of victory for our opponents were small enough that not beating ourselves would have enabled different outcomes.

  7. Yes, I'm sure Gant will get some MWC or AAC money. I'm not sure what other starters have remaining eligibility, but we will lose guys on our offensive and defensive line to programs who have more NIL. Maybe even 1-2 to teams in the MAC. It's why I said getting to 6-7 wins next year. We really can't expect 8+ wins annually when we have to rebuild our team every year shopping the clearance rack for bargains. You can get lucky here or there and find good value, but not possible year over year. Fortunately going 5-3 in the MAC is possible most years because half the conference (ourselves included) is FBS bottom feeders.

  8. I think we all understand by now that the scholarship chart will likely be torched at the end of each season. That said, it's still helpful to have a long-term vision of what is possible. I'm less than confident with this update. Please let me know if you see an issue. Thanks. Zips add Ognjen Stankovic for 2025-6. RJ Jones and Jashawn Ladd for 2026-7. Cody Head (Junior), Tai Perkins and Josh Henderson (Freshmen) are redshirting this year. Never thought I would see a true PG redshirt, but times - they are a chang'n.

  9. If ESPN wants the Turnover Tire in a bowl, and Akron gets to 6-6, it will happen.

  10. Sigh - and now the ones on air showed Findlay with the touchdown tire around his neck and called it the turnover tire. If your quarterback is getting the turnover tire, that's probably not good. 🤣

  11. Would you look at that. Would like the defense to step up a bit more but if the offense keeps scoring TDs on 75% of their drives, I guess it's OK. Moorhead's offense doing its job tonight.

  12. How much of this is "Akron really is getting better" versus "how bad is UMass" But Akron does look legitimately decent so far tonight. 6-6 is still alive...

  14. Creighton started their season with 3 matches on the road. Since starting the season 0-2-2, the Blue Jays are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games. Creighton has not lost a game this year at home. Their home record is 5-0-2. Over the last 11 games, Creighton has played like a top 20 team.

  17. Money talks. I like my job, but if a recruiter called me and offered me an additional $50k to do the same exact job elsewhere I'd have my 2 week notice submitted tomorrow. Edit: You have to remember we graduated and/or spent decades being fans so we have loyalty to the school. These kids have come from all over the country. Maybe have spent 2-3 years in Akron at the most. They don't hold those same loyalties.

  18. But unfortunately, the problem still exists, this will probably be another completely different roster next season. Many players that have some success this year will move on and who knows what they will replace them with. Building a program, especially in a situation like Akron, is more difficult than ever

  19. Yes, this year needs to end 6-6 and next year needs to improve on that before an extension makes much sense.

  20. I got the impression that when Johnson came into the game as the 3rd QB at the end of the game that he was told to run the ball since we had a big lead and just run out the clock. He then threw a pass and we almost scored. He was immediately yanked so Brookhart could run out the clock. At the end of the game I saw Moorehead go to the Mass coach and it looked like he was apologizing for the pass at the end of the game. These are my impressions but I just cannot see the coach throwing the ball at that point in the game.

  21. People were talking about wanting him fired as little as 2-3 weeks ago. Let's not go ahead and put the cart ahead of the horse. We have to see 6-7 wins next year before any discussion of an extension comes into play. Even then something needs to be done about the buyout terms of these deals. A coach can leave for another school and it only costs him 10%-20% of the contract value. If a school fires a coach they're on the hook for damn near 100% of the remaining base.

  22. Someone else is now the MAC's punching bag instead of Akron/Kent competing for that "honor" each year.

  23. We’ve entered a new tier above the bottom tier. It’s progress man. I think we finally have the personnel to play the Moorhead offense he’s wanted to do for years. Just took a lot longer he or any of us expected. Let’s finish the season strong. Post season ban be damned the key for me this offseason is how we handle the QB position. Moorehead wanted a big QB in the portal and got Finley which imo outside of two slow starts has been great in Mac play. If he can develop Roggow or get another portal guy to continue the growth then he needs to be extended.

  24. Frankly, this is the biggest show of progress we've had maybe in the Moorhead era. Yes, UMass is quite possibly the worst team in recent FBS history. But it's been a long time since Akron saw a straight-up bad team that just bludgeoned them like this.

  34. My thoughts in the game. 1. The returning starters. Lyles, TJ and Scott all played great. 2. Young needs more minutes. He is a star. 3. The Mahaffey brothers looked solid. 4. Stankovic had some flashes of greatness. I think he gains playing time as the season goes on. 5. Hardman struggled 6. I love Marvin style of play and hustle but if he is our back up big, that's going to be a big problem. 7. Where are the big guys? Halligan got in before them?

  35. Cody Head is redshirting along with the freshmen. It could potentially be pulled down the line but it is the plan for now.

  36. I have a white board in my office at work and I have the entire zip opponent list written out and I’ll update it everytime I’m in the office. (Format is record and Kenpom) We know the MAC did extremely well with a 9-4 day but our OOC did great also. They went 4-0 (other than JMU ofc) Zips jump up to 87 in KenPom also

  40. Do you really want to see a repeat of our game against FAU? Any average MWC, AAC, or SunBelt team would likely mop the floor with us. The team has improved. We're at least able to compete with and/or beat the worst of the worst in FBS. I don't see us in a position to compete with average to above average FBS rosters.
