Loyer and Stewart appear on paper to be good candidates. Both with Akron ties. Jim Christian would be the worst choice ever.

Let's play game #4 first. App State is good.

Does anyone know the status of Brown? He took a vicious hit on his leg. -
Game 3—@Marshall Thundering Herd

54 for Marshall should be ejected. That's a horribly late hit. Dirtiest hit I've seen this year. -
I don't post here often but I do read frequently. I am a Zip grad in the class of 1993. I have watched a lot of Zip football since 1989. I understand everyone was frustrated by the penalties and defensive problems. I know that Amato and Bowden will fix the penalties and field discipline problems. The defense has talent and Gilbert was everywhere. Amato will have a better scheme for future games. He kept it simple for this one. As for the offense, all I can say is Wow. There is so much talent on this side of the ball. This is the most talent I have ever seen for the Zips. Ball is a beast and should have received more carries IMO. Woodson was awesome and the receivers are incredibly fast, big, and athletic. This will be a fun team to watch this year. Wisconsin is probably too good to beat but we surely have the ability to challenge them.

Run the ball, don't turn it over, crush the passer. Zips Win!

I don't care that Shaka Smart did not call off the dogs in the game. This isn't high school basketball. Step up and stop them. He is trying to make sure his team is sharp and focused for the whole tournament. We need to look in the mirror and recognize, short handed or not, that VCU played on a much higher level than us. They were incredible. I wish them luck the rest of the tournament. I do, however, think that In a few years when Shaka reflects on this he will wish he took a different approach once the game was way out of hand. I think he lost perspective in the heat of the moment. He will learn with maturity as a coach. Just my 2 cents.

The refs let them play all game long. I did not see any favoritism. I think there were a lot of fouls left uncalled in both directions. Bassett and Cooper got away with several pushoffs but Conyers also got away with a couple pushes. It all evened out in the end. Ohio had the dominant guards and that is what won the game for them. Congrats to Ohio on a well played tournament.Congrats to the Zips on another fine season.

Young men and women make bad decisions. I made quite a few decisions in college which, looking back 20 years ago, probably weren't the best things to do. I am sure that if I were on a college athletics team and the coach found out about some of the things I did that I might suffer some sort of punishment, and deserved it. I was not a bad person, just young, a little adventurous, and wanting to experience life as a young man. Let's not waste our time slamming the coach or the player. Let's praise the TEAM for winning without a key member of the team in a tough place on the road. B McKnight will be back. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

Caleb's Reply about DC United
zvillezip replied to hormone768's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The Zips need to make a commitment here to excellence. Caleb Porter deserves to be the highest paid coach in NCAA soccer. PERIOD! -
Lock up Caleb Porter for ever. Give him the biggest contract in college soccer.

ZIPS win on penalty kicks. Time for Virginia for the Championship!

I was in Winston-Salem today and near the football stadium is a street named Akron Drive. I think this is an omen that we should schedule them, what do you think?

8 home games for Penn State in 2009, that should be illegal.

31-30 Zips win

I have been looking over the roster and I am quite impressed with the overall depth and skill of the team. It looks to be quite good at all spots. I have three concerns. QB, WR, and DB. QB - I think Jac will be better than last year. If not, we better be able to run it with the talent we have at the position. I think Rodgers is a year or so away.WR - Andre Jones is a great playmaker, Bowser and Bruce could be good, there are other seniors who should be solid contributors. I am hopefull that this position will hold its own.DB- There is alot of talent. There is not much experience. Lets hope that improved pass rush covers some potential problems in this area.Overall - I think the Zips have more top to bottom talent than they ever have. If QB play and DB's come along, it could be a good season. If either of those areas do not develop then it will be our achilles heel.

I think we all need to appreciate how special Nate Linhart's defensive ability is. He is a shut down defender. He has to be the favorite next year for defensive player of the year in the MAC. He was unbelievable last night. He gave everything he had and then some extra. He was totally gassed at the end which is why he missed free throws but his defense and Dials clutch shooting is what won the game. Oh yeah, I think this is the best game plan I have ever seen Dambrot utilize. The team defense against the pick-n-roll was incredible. They continually hedged the ball handler off his path and totally disrupted the offense. I look forward to another great game plan and effort against UMass. The two best defensive teams I have seen all year, in all of college basketball are Akron and Can't. I really respect Dambrot for not switching into a zone even though the announcers kept thinking he would. Akron's message to the big schools is this: "We are going to play you man-to-man and beat you, enough said!"
