Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans
Akron1 replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Athletics has to get creative and provide some fun entertainment for the the non-season ticket holders to have some engagement with the program. Get fans in the door and find a way to get them to come back. Men's Basketball is a winning program that needs some hustle from Athletics. I would love to know how many businesses, churches, community nights and youth teams they contact to attend games. This is a special team that deserves some support. -

The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 1634 Brittain Road in Akron (44310) has a ton of nice Zips gear new with tags. Shirts are $5 and sweatshirts at $10. Most of the clothing is from - The Original Retro Brand which is a nice quality line of sports gear.

I wish some of these guys would come home and be a Zip. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/football/2023/12/20/ncaa-college-football-transfer-portal-tracker-greater-akron-players/71961141007/

Labas has offers from two MAC schools - Central Michigan and NIU. Labas threw for 139 yards and a touchdown when Iowa beat Kentucky 21-0 in the Music City Bowl last year. Not bad for Iowa's juggernaut of an offense.
-
I hope we offer two local guys. Ethan Wright can help this team as a RB or as a Safety. He played both positions at Cincinnati. We need to offer former Iowa QB Joe Labas, who is from Brecksville.

I am just shocked that it took until the Kent game to run a two TE set. The line struggled all season, and they needed some blocking help.

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season
Akron1 replied to LZIp's topic in Akron Zips Football
On a positive note, I discovered the new Akron Zips Football Booster Club. Might be a good way for some of Zips Nation to have a bigger voice. Sounds like they are attempting to improve the tailgating, help with NIL's and other important issues. https://www.zipsfootballboosters.com/?fbclid=IwAR247ICw81iCZrtZvc5Ng8GhWh1kTWD8iFa-pX70rjl0qWtNzS2e_wGsuac What is the Akron Zips Football Booster Club (the “Club”)? Formed on July 1, 2023, the Club is a non-profit, §501(c)(7) social club that endeavors to enhance academics and athletics of the football program at The University of Akron (the “Program”) and provide for networking opportunities for our members. Your membership fee and your participation in the sponsored events allow us to support the Program at the discretion of the Director of Athletics. -
I print the updated scholarship grid off and keep it in my desk drawer at work for quick reference. Thanks!

This is at least a solid effort to engage the business community. https://app.wyng.com/651dc09a90c693f853bc4143?fbclid=IwAR2Xz_Y2nj_108iyiXJeXf-NLbB3aS9LCSN6AHHTyetaZ4agp39OMFK0Qf0_aem_AajXOyBoMIEvtTnc5DuaiSFCE7VTlCJ_YyF2L6mAx6GVQR9JSxw0qnJsNwY3G5pKWWgZ0x0mMBvyLwHdft5F0UlX&_wyng_media_es_651dc09a90c693f853bc4143=Copy share

There seems to be such little community involvement by Athletics and our teams. If athletes are volunteering - put it on social media and on GoZips.com. We know the Akron Beacon Journal will not print any positive story, so blitz the small community newspapers. Advertise games/ticket specials and send multiple press releases a day to those small newspapers about game results or community involvement. Partner with FirstEnergy, Goodyear, Firestone, Akron Children’s, Summa, Cleveland Clinic, Signet, GPD Group etc...and offer to assist with their foundations. Student athletes assisting with companies will put Akron Athletics on their radar. Maybe that company buys a suite at InfoCision, maybe they book the baseline bar at the men's basketball games, maybe they donate to Swimming or Track or attend a Soccer, baseball or softball game because they interacted with an Akron athlete. What harm could it do?...No one donates or buys any additional tickets, so then our athletes learn about being better citizens and learn about civic pride, which is part of what higher education is supposed to do.

Any truth to this rumor?

I don't think there is a weekly radio show. They are doing "A daily briefing of athletics at The University of Akron. Zips Today is produced Monday-Friday August thru March.".... https://www.spreaker.com/show/zips-today

I record it on Ballys. It is Must See TV during Football and Basketball season. Joe Dunn does a nice job. Great promo for UA - thanks to those sponsors for getting this produced for TV and YouTube.
