Here we go!
-
nice. may be the best commit of the class so far.
-
1 down, 1 to go. Good luck finding much on the new signee, but this is our freshman big.

Subtle way at letting us know we got a new transfer? DB from Michigan. Two years to play and eligible immediately. 4 star coming out of HS. https://www.si.com/college/michigan/football/michigan-football-jaylen-kelly-powell-transfer-destination-akron-george-floyd-message https://247sports.com/Player/Jaylen-Kelly-Powell-78974/

Cleveland State getting creative. https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/education/cleveland-state-will-cover-the-cost-of-spring-semester-if-freshman-successfully-complete-fall-2020?fbclid=IwAR1Ka2cHkyEFoGeSh0G94M7rT_UClZBEtPK_cEokkB5KCOpwXrhyohnrzvc -
Looks like we have hired former Coventry HC, Ed Egan, to be Director of recruiting/high school relations. This position was previously held by Alex Kline. Looking at his twitter, he still appears to be involved with the program, so curious to what his new role will be if he is.

I agree..always going to be an uphill battle until we put together a few decent seasons. Two diamonds in the rough were actually our most impressive freshman last year - AJ Watts and Mike Mathison had a combined zero FBS offers outside of Akron. Whereas two of our highest rated recruits in program history (Hayes-Patrick and Corey Thomas didn't do much at all). Thomas even redshirted.

and that 3 of the 4 haven't been ranked yet, not that i'm expecting anything crazy, but it doesn't take a genius to understand the formula and how the rankings work.

So uh...whats the hold up on these last two scholarships?

The runners still literally have indoor and outdoor track seasons, along with all women's running sports still there. Why do they need not 1, not 2, but 3 different seasons? I'd like to see what all is being including in the operating expense figure - maybe bus rides and hotel and thats it? Actually I don't even see how that could be under that figure. Maybe its legitimate, but clearly a misleading figure that is really splitting hairs considering it clearly doesn't even include coaches salary. -

The P5 and their exuberant salaries are what is driving the G5 prices up. There are strength and conditioning coaches making more than every single HC in the MAC except Candle. Its impossible for us to hire a coordinator at a top school. Doesn't seem like too long ago where that would have been a legitimate possibility. Some sort of coaching salary cap/redistribution might be worth considering, though I'm sure the OSU, Alabama's, etc of the world would never let that happen. -
Walk on before anyone comes on here and acts like the world is falling. Looks like we may be replacing him with a former NIU quarterback.

i think 5 year initial contracts are pretty standard. Doing the math in this article, we gave Bowden a 5 year deal initially. https://www.foxsports.com/other/story/akron-football-coach-terry-bowden-receives-contract-extension-112113 Jim Mcelwain was given a 5 year deal. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/2019/12/05/central-michigan-coach-jim-mcelwain-no-one-has-contacted-him/2614839001/ Sean Lewis was given a 5 year deal. http://www.kentwired.com/sports/article_e0c5dc3e-e90c-11e7-a597-97420013e357.html -
Nice go see us get back to getting commits from guys with offers from other FBS schools. Beat out Kent is this case.

I'd rather have 75 players given full value scholarships than 85 players at 90%, which we operated at and will be operating at this year unfortunately. Why would anyone come here if they could get a full ride somewhere else? -

Just saw on the news that Walsh is going to offer free first semester room for incoming freshmen and transfer students. I think we'd be smart to offer that..maybe to a lesser extent, like transfers only. I imagine there is quite a bit of occupancy in the dorms considering they were built for a 30k college. Heck I'd even do it up until dorms are at full occupancy again (if ever). Any minimal additional costs like electricity would be more than offset by at least a few years of tuition. Getting enrollment up is priority #1. Let's get a little creative. -

Reminder: Groce finished tied for last in the MAC his first year, didn’t do much better his second year, and was picked to finish 5th of 6th in the East this year although they were thankfully able to break through. Rebuilding takes patience and I really struggle to value anyone’s opinion who is writing him off after a season. -

We lost a few in recent days - one to Ball State and a few to Kent State. If the Universality's financial troubles were constantly on blast, the financial commitment to the football program was regularly under public scrutiny, and the school is cutting athletic programs, would you want your kid going here to play if there were other options? The program has enough systemic challenges it has to deal with on it's own. Piling on only makes it more difficult for the student-athletes and coaches currently here busting their asses to have success. -

Why is football the "problem" but not other sports? None of them profit. Why stop at football..why don't we cut them all? Two-thousand something average attendance for a MAC Championship basketball program sucks as well.
