Official ZNO Photographer?
RootforRoo44 replied to bUAkronG's topic in Board Comments, Suggestions & Technical Support
Being an amateur photographer myself, I would hope the ZN.O has the clout to get a pass for "Akronnnn". Nothing like a student's perspective on an athletic event. Some very nice pictures there btw. -
Where Will Devoe Torrence resurface?
RootforRoo44 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Devoe Torrence is better than any YSU running back there or coming. Regardless he is a linebacker first and foremost and eventually will figure that out. Also, I dont see him as this "bum" as some people are calling him. He is a tremendous talent that just hasn't got his chance to shine, like i said, when he figures out what his true position is he will be a star. I beg to differ. He is talented, but I saw a lot better in Northeast Ohio the past few years. And yes, I do believe Allen Jones is better than Torrence. I guess that kind of attitude and belief is the way you keep yourself interested in a 3rd rate athletic program. -
Still just AWFUL advertising for it. What does the marketing department do all day?!

Well if they win and serve beer they get $400,000 then. We could have both. I honestly dont think beer creates chaos or whatever your implying. Let's just stop living in a fantasy world and stop pretending that money isn't important and sell some damn beer at the stadium. And i want it cheap like at K-SUcks big Dix Stadium.

Do You Support Obama's Healthcare Legislation?
RootforRoo44 replied to InTheZone's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
lol wow, i guess it proves that Zips fans are intelligent people. You post this on Can't State's forum (if you can call it that) and you get the exact opposite results, as well as option 4 "Too high to answer". -

Yep, they got smoked, 7-1. I want the Zips to be the first MAC school to win a national championship anyway. Did I just hear a Rifle being loaded?... Nope...that was a soccer ball being dribbled.

They face off tonight against Boston College in the Frozen Four at 8:30pm on ESPN2. Though of no real importance to us, i guess it would be nice to see an Ohio team win it all. Btw, interesting side note: "Over the years, Rochester Institute of Technology won NCAA championships at Division II (1983) and Division III (1985). A Division I title would make RIT the first school to win titles in all three divisions." So they dropped down from DII to DIII then up to D1. That has to be fairly rare. LINK

Yes, and a logo that is VERY much like ours. Actually it's a straight rip off.

Butler has a bulldog, can we get a real kangaroo?
RootforRoo44 replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wallaby's are close enough to Kangaroos to be used. I think it's a great idea. Actually i recently had looked into getting a Wallaby as a pet as i know someone (out of state) that has one and found out that they are actually quite awesome pets. -

By what measure? By conference RPI, the MAC ended up the season #16 and the OVC #20. Average team RPI in the MAC was 169, and in the OVC 205. How would this be better for the Zips? We would have been in the NCAA tournament

No GM in the NBA is stupid enough to waste a pick on Armon Bassett. I mean come on, he isn't THAT good. I wish him luck in Europe.

I agree. Go Zips and go University of Akron. Let's hope he at the very least gets Akronites to see an "Akron Zips" Flag flying off their neighbors' porches and not respond with the question, "what's that supposed to be?" That's right, people in Akron fly OSU, K.E.N.T State and MSU flags from their windows and porches and have no idea what a (UA) Zips Flag is all about. That is a pathetic illustration of how miserable UA marketing is as a whole. It is no wonder why K.E.N.T. State laughs us off the map. They have every reason to. I wouldnt be laughing if i was a piece of trash Can't Stater. What is there to be proud of when your campus resembles a little slice of New Jersey in Ohio and it rains all the time?

Honestly, how could anyone believe that he would go to the Knicks or Nets? The guy is so focused on winning that he would never go to two of the worst teams int he league and start all over again. Maybe if they signed Kobe, DWade, and a decent big guy first then LeBron would think about it. Basically, you're kidding yourself if you think there is any chance that LeBron will go to either of those two teams. You're also kidding yourself if you think this guy wouldn't win anywhere he goes. What makes you think that's true when he cant even win here? Alway have to be careful saying "he" can't win when it's a team game. One man can't win a title by himself. It takes an above average team to boot. Jordan never won anything without Scottie. Jordan and Pippen were the two best players in the league at the time (or at least the 1st and 3rd best - I could also argue Charles Barkley was the 2nd best). That'd be like having LeBron and Kobe on the same team, or, if you'd want to go 1st and 3rd best, it'd be like having LeBron & D-Wade together. Forget about it. Not only did the Bulls have the two best players in the league, they also always had arguably the 2nd best PF in the league - Charles Oakley, Horace Grant & Dennis Rodman (I'd consider all of them a #2 to Karl Malone). In addition to that they always had an All-Star-caliber PG. In short, the Bulls, as a team, were ridiculously stacked. How'd they ever lose a game? That'd be like the Cavs having: PG - Chauncy Billups (Not the best PG in the league but an all-star caliber player.) SG - Kobe Bryant SF - King James PF - Amare Stoudemire (would you consider him the 2nd or 3rd best PF? If not, insert your own player here.) C - Zydrunas (the Bulls never had a dominate C; just a serviceable 7-footer.) So, needless to say, LeBron is doing WITH A WHOLE LOT LESS. I enjoy & learn a lot from Charles Barkley's observations & comments. A lot of Cleveland fans don't like him, but that's just because he doesn't blow propogandistic smoke for the NBA and tells it like it is. He's been saying for years that the Cavs play WAY TOO SLOW to best utilize LeBron's strengths and that the Cavs would simply suck hard without LBJ. He's right. Could you imagine putting 'Bron on any of these teams?!: LBJ + Boston Celtics = champs LBJ + Toronto Raptors = contenders LBJ + Orlando Magic = champs LBJ + Atlanta Hawks = champs LBJ + Miami Heat = champs LBJ + Charlotte Bobcats = contenders LBJ + Utah Jazz = champs LBJ + Denver Nuggest = champs LBJ + Ok-City Thunder = champs LBJ + Portland Trailblazers = champs LBJ + Phoenix Suns = champs LBJ + LA Lakers = champs LBJ + LA Clippers = contenders LBJ + Dallas Maveriks = champs LBJ + San Antonio Spurs = champs LBJ + Memphis Grizzlies = contenders LBJ + Houston Rockets = contenders LBJ + New Orleans Hornets = contenders There aren't many teams in the league that 'Bron would not instantly make the favorite to win the NBA championship. He is an unprecedented talent. However, the Knicks and Nets happen to be two of the few that are so pathetic not even 'Bron could will & skill them to the front of the line. I couldn't agree more. He hasn't won here and he wont win anywhere else unless he's surrounded by at least one more star and enough above average talent to do it. Jordan definitely had it easier, and you forgot one thing: LBJ + current Cleveland roster = CHAMPS This year they finally have put it together but they still would have a tough time matching up with many variations of Jordan's Bulls.

Want to make the regular season meaningful? Eliminate conference tournaments and make the regular season champion the champion of the league with an automatic bid. Leagues with two divisions? Divisional champions play best of 3 or 5 (you decide) during the week the tournaments were to be played. One division league? First and second place play best of whatever for the championship. No team with a sub .500 conference record can get into the NCAA. Reduce the field to 48. I don't know why the illusion in our society is that we need to make everything bigger to make it better. NCAA playoffs, NFL playoffs, the NCAA tournament, the governnment, MLB playoffs, the obscene length of movies, etc. It just doesn't make sense to me. MLB playoffs are the only thing that i really think should be expanded. I'm all for 2 wild cards in each league and 3 game series to see who goes to the division series.

Impact of UA Sports and Infocision on the City
RootforRoo44 replied to MDZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
just spent the last couple hours youtube'ing the bluecoats. Im sold. Ill be there. I've been complaining about the lack of concerts at InfoCision Stadium, but I was hoping for something along the lines of Jay-Z, Dave Matthews, not really interested in a marching band... Do yourself a favor then and take a chance on the BlueCoats or some of the other 's that will be there. You'll be pleasantly surprised. -
I dont know if a timeline exists for our team but i can tell you that some of the players in question may have spoken to other schools and they obviously would have to make a decision about transferring by some designated deadline. I'm guessing most other schools cannot wait too long to hear back. btw, Mes, i know you're credible and i'm glad that you at least mentioned it on here. I heard the rumors then checked to be sure and i was wondering what Zipsnation would say if player A or player B transferred. Speaking of which, i would agree with you VMD. I would not be too happy if someone like Zeke, Humpty, or Nik left just because of one season not living up to their expectations or them not getting the playing time they expected. If you make a commitment you stick with it. People like Sullivan, Steward, or Swiech i can understand a little more as they have potential to start elsewhere and they may not have been given a fair chance here.
-
I will tell you right now that Mes obviously IS in the know and knows the facts. I have spoken to 2 of the 4 players in question (3 supposed "for sures" and one "maybe") and i can tell you that 1 is for sure transferring and one is thinking about it. I know these guys very well and feel free to believe it or not but everyone will find out for sure soon enough. edit* Let me add that it's probably better that we all dont know who they are yet. Let them have some privacy with such a tough decision.

Awful news. I hope JD wasn't the one who ruined him by sitting him so much.

I'm thinking you are going to be very right.

Word is Steve is transferring...can anyone else confirm this?

If you're interested in joining. A high school kid started the group.
