Game 3- Bryant

Well, somebody had to do it.  

 

Bryant comes in this weekend at 1-1, having lost to Rhode Island (45-21) opening week and beat Sacred Heart (17-6) in week 2.

This one worries me.

 

Getting blown out by top 10 teams with multiple championships is one thing. 

 

Losing a 14 point lead before being blown out by a former mediocre MAC program looks bad.

 

But losing to a mediocre FCS program that got smoked by Rhode Island? Rhode Island has a football team? That might push even Zips faithful over the edge.

 

They might as well play the rest of Tom's home games on the practice field.

When facing another G5 team that has a nice upset over a P5 school that season, if we win, the joke is always, "Well that means we could beat (insert the aforementioned P5 school here)."

 

I want to say we could beat Rhode Island and Sacred Heart.

You want to talk about a must win game? This is it. If they cannot beat Bryant, there is no way to go forward or finish the season with Arth.

 

That being said, I am afraid it will be way closer than it should be.i pick the Zips by 2 TDs.

I remember, Idk, 20 years ago (a year when the national champion was not undefeated, obviously), you could daisy chain the national champion down to a D-2 or D-3 school who only had a few wins on the season. 😂

FWIW there appears to be improvement on special teams, but they continue with the mind-boggling penalties.  That being said, I hazard to guess some of those won't happen again as Irons settles in.  So, I'm feeling ok about this game.  God have mercy on the Zips.

Or finish the season with the entire roster.  If they lose, all of the players should go (but they will not).  It will show the players are not D1 talent and the new coach will have less to work with than Arth had when he took over.

I'm not worried. Unless they show a lot of speed to the outside. Or a little speed to the outside..

Agreed. Kicking game is great! What's not great? The Kick Off Specialist had to make 2 tackles last week. That guy is a Zip all-timer, but he shouldn't have to be making tackles, especially when his kicks are so good.

I stopped by the Bryant web site and checked out their roster.

They have much more experience than the Zips but are tiny.

If we don't control both lines of scrimmage we don't just have a problem, we have a REAL problem.

One worry. I remember back in the 70s the Zip's defensive line was frequently outweighed by 50 pounds a man and somehow they outplayed their bigger opponents.

Hope the fighting (miniature) Bulldogs don't do the same.

Well, coach can count the games and knows the days of the week.  He seems to know more about the Duquesne/OU game than the UA/Temple game or the UA/Bryant game.

 

Is GT the only reporter there?  I'd send in fake reporters just to make it look like a real presser.

It really seemed like he was wasting time & deflecting.  He talked about the Duquesne/OU game for 5 minutes.  Don't really care.

I think he's referencing the historic nature of the stadium and how kids in Ohio grew up wanting to play there.  I had friends who played in a state championship game there and it was certainly an honor for them.  I don't know of many kids who grew up watching UA games on TV and dreaming of playing in the Rubber Bowl.  There's plenty in that presser to dislike but his reference to OSU wasn't one of them for me.
