Nebraska won a boat load of games running the triple option with Turner Gill, Mike Rosier and Roger Craig in the backfield and a bunch of human bulldozers on the line. I don't believe they had given up on football at the time.

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'" - Bob Dylan

Triple Option in Akron?

Respectfully, Akron is considered one of the worst jobs in America. That’s mostly due to lack of facilities and support from the administration. For a program that has more all-time losses than wins, this should not be hard to believe.

Great football acumen. Would be a great recruiter in Western Pa. Might stay a while, with his family being so close. Great leadership skills. Would pique the interest of a lot of scorned football alumni. MACC QB. He's a home run if we could get him.

I wanna know how many figured Bowden was gonna be hired? I can tell you someone on the selection committee at the time , who has since retired from the law school had no idea Bowden would end up being hired. Point? Don't assume anybody knows who the alleged leading candidates are at this point.

I don't know. His ability to recruit is my biggest question mark. Does he have much real experience in it?

Ok, I will try to lighten up, Francis.

I just think that if you love OSU and were able to go to college, you should have gone to that school.  I have worked with many people over the years who went to different schools, but when their alma mater played the Suckeyes, they would dress up in OSU gear.  I had a very good friend who I graduated from the University of Akron with, asked if he could join me for a game.  He met me in Lot 9 wearing Buckeye apparel.  He got many negative comments and near threats over his outfit at the tailgate.  I bought him an Akron Jersey to cover up his shirt.  I just think your number 1 college love has to be your alma mater.  It is for me and I am proud to be a graduate of the University of Akron.

Speaking of triggers, there are many people on this forum who speak negatively toward Buffalo and Kent State.  They are called many different names on this forum, which I think is worse than my Suckeye comments.  Just look at the game threads, of which some are confusing.  I hold no ill will toward these schools.  I do not know any Akron graduates who root for Kent or Buffalo, unless maybe their spouse went there.  I know several people who went to Kent, and I respect them.

Thanks for allowing me to explain myself.  However, after writing this post, I decided that I will not lighten up regarding the Suckeyes.  Go Zips!!! Proud to be an University of Akron alumnus.

Even bigjim might like me after this one.

Early in my marriage to Akron's finest, we were at one of her brother's homes.  He has a dog named, you guessed it, Buckeye.  Well, I taught him to answer to Buckwheat.  The dog would be in the other room and I would call "Here, Buckwheat" and he would just come running and tail-wagging.  The BIL hated it so I didn't do it often, but we all knew that I had a good one just waiting to be used.

I have to agree with the Grate One here; if the Zips can get three guys in their backfield with the talent of Gill, Rosier and Craig and a line of human bulldozers, they should certainly be a-changin to the triple option.

Yes, the Pass 'n Pitch with Marcel Weems, IIRC.

I remember getting free beers once in Pittsburgh...was visiting NJ friends at Pitt and wearing my Akron garb. The bartender was friends with Weems and made us feel right at home haha.

That being said I sorta remember Akron’s offense looking good running the misdirection and the delay. Heck, San Diego State is freaking anemic at passing and they’re a top 20 program.

"If your time to you is worth saving" is the line that stands out to me. I can't say I put much time into Zips football as many of you over the past 15 years. Some of you may not even have much time left on this Earth or may be approaching a time in your life where you can't make it to game as much or ever. At some point the time you spend has to be worth saving for those things that can give you some pleasure. I hope the University makes a good decision for those of you who have wasted too much time in your life watching bad football.

So, just have some extra time and looking around at some current FBS assistants that have head coaching experience.

What would you guys think of Brad Lambert, co-Defensive coordinator at Purdue who previously was a G5 head coach at Charlotte when they started their program from scratch?

Now add Mullen at FLA.   he’s out per ESPN

The Mouth of the South didn't like to recruit at a place that the name recruit's itself. I think he is also too abrasive to come up here and get local buy in. To go with that, it is already almost impossible to get local media to say anything nice about the university without Mullen hurting someone's feelings. .... though I would find it amusing for someone to put GT in his place.

Would he want to do that again?
