This. This. THIS. Hit the nail on the head. Can we rename the Info - Kaulig Companies Stadium? Or Leaf Filter Stadium?

I think when the Infocision contract is up it will be something like Leaf Fileter stadium. Or how about Rubber Bowl Stadium presented by Leaf Filter?!?! Let's bring back some magic!!! I'm getting ahead of myself haha, I'm so pumped and I need to see this be official

I hope to hell this happens but if it does and his salary is "on the books" it could likely be the highest coaching salary in the MAC which will invariably lead to the question of how just over a year ago they cut three teams, positions, staff and $4.4 million from the athletics budget as part of the university wide austerity measures yet they are now committing $1 million plus a year to this position.

Gotta spend money to make money. Commit or get out of the game.

Edit: Let me elaborate with spending money on the right guy. Moorhead has an undeniably successful track record, and based on the headlines, this would really turn heads in college football. Bowden turned heads slightly, and the program took a step in the right direction. Ianello and Arth did not. Go all in on THE guy.

I 100% agree.  There's a school of thought that Larry W wanted to make the big moves but was always shut down so he continued to make mediocre hires:  Arth and Melissa Jackson come to mind.  And the Groce hire save the university a lot of $ upfront.  Illinois was essentially paying him to coach here.

And something has to be done big now or just give up on football and watch Infocision turn into something like those creepy abandoned amusement parks you can find on YouTube.

I've said it before, but I don't look too much into crying poor when UA makes these decisions. The university has rightfully made it clear at the top that they are reducing the budget and taking measures etc. Gary Miller was brought in to fix that issue, and he brought his guy Guthrie to straighten out athletics. If they couldn't afford to do what they're doing right now, they wouldn't be doing it.

Akron has an insane opportunity right now. Kaulig is all in on the university, not all schools at this level are fortunate to have donors like that. Utilize it!!!

Joe took over a Fordham program that was 1-10 in 2011.

He wanted the Zips job in 2012, but UA chose Bowden.

A home run hire on every level. Get it done, Guthrie. 🙏

This is the type of turnaround I expect at Akron from our next HC, whomever that may be. .500 or better in year 1, then 3 additional years of excellence. Leave for a P5 school and get that next massive paycheck. I will be thrilled.

Western Michigan has the Stryker family, who donated a medical school but haven't done much for athletics.

Moorhead is currently making $1,150,000 as Oregon OC. That would be about double what Arth was making. I'm not opposed to him as getting a former P5 head coach who has connections to high school coaches in western PA and Ohio from his time in the area would be a plus. Just seems too good to be true given the state of the program and our limited resources.

Agreed on too good to be true. I'm trying like hell not to get my hopes up before it's made official. This would be so tremendous for this place. Come on Chuck!!!!

We are all hoping for the best and ignoring reality:  the phrase "whistling past the graveyard" comes to mind.

I think @LoyalZIP is spot on with "Akron wouldn't do this if it couldn't," as we're tied to multiple P5 coordinators (OSUcks OC, Moorhead, etc.). Clearly there's a goal to make a home run hire. I'd imagine Guthrie, not having football at UWGB, wants to make a splash and his mark in the #1 college sport. Talk about a resume builder.

Moorhead returned to Fordham (where he played). He's a WESTERN PA guy (Temple vacancy doesn't scare me; this is also why a failing program should get a head start in its HC search), and has history with Akron. This is not a pipe dream, evident by the volume of reports he's at least our top target, with other reports saying a deal could be done today.

This is fun, regardless.

Even as an Akron fan and proud alum, I can't imagine turning down a salary of over a million dollars to leave Oregon and coach in front of a few hundred fans every Saturday.

USC, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech are sucking up all the talent.  In a bidding war, Zips are going to lose.

He can be the change of that though, and that challenge should excite any coach. Winning will help!

And the money will work itself out. Well, I hope it doesn't come down to that....but it could.

I'm trying to be positive here haha.

Totally agree, go all on or get out. Hiring Moorhead would be a homerun or OSU Wilson would as well. I like this search much better than 2018 when the list was a bunch of no names from Div 2 and 3 that wouldn’t make it in Div 1 as we know with Arth hire. Akron has a connection with Moorhead in that in 2004 to 2008 he was Akron’s OC. I say let’s get this deal done today! I had a good feeling about this search and feel like we will good a good guy since we started our search 4 weeks ago.

I've been all over the last search committee but they may have been severely hamstrung by the interim pres and the board.   But Tom Arth?  I had a queasy feeling when UTC was happy to get rid of him.

Akron needs to give out incentives on winning the Mac division, bowl games and recruiting class ranking to make this attractive for Moorhead. Heck even beat Kent State each year gets a bonus. The way to pay for it is getting more money out of the power 5 instead of just 1 million a game. If they want their own refs, charge them another 500k. Def can make this work.
