Right now its only for 1 player but something like his could set a dangerous precedent that hurts HS athletes even more

At minimum under something like this a kid could spend 7 years in college (2 at juco + 5 at D1 with a redshirt). Throw in 1 or 2 years of grad school + a redshirt at juco also and you could have kids playing a whole decade of college spoets

Saw something saying that the opening game in 2025 is home against Wyoming on Thursday night, August 28. Must have moved it from Saturday the 30th?

I've had to attend open day games on Thursday nights the past few years and I absolutely hate them. Why can't fans just go to a Saturday game and enjoy a day off without having to take a day off?  Maybe a nice community event?  Good grief.

I think it would help academically eligible HS seniors, many of whom are now getting overlooked at the D1 level due to the love affair with portal players.

Under this rule they can play at a decent level of college football and become a mature, marketable body when they're done. They'll be more appealing to D1 programs since they'll have college school & game experience + physical maturity + full eligibility.

I feel a lot of the love of the portal is to do with the fact many schools are tired of spending 2 years developing a player to get 1 year of production out of them. It's better to spend a scholarship on someone who can contribute immediately as there is no promise of said player being around in the future.

Edit: I feel most coaches would prefer the way the system was before. There is just no longer any loyalty of players to a school. Coaches are forced to adapt to the portal or be left behind.

Sure, of course they prefer a system where they could still run away whenever they wanted, while players were generally stuck.

I could see it play out in a way that helps mac level schools. The MAC is a development league. I don't see it helping P4 schools much because they have appeal and money behind them. Their players mostly show up ready to play.

My concern is cultural. Juco is a place for dummies and guys who are completely focused on themselves. The team just exists for the player to get to another school. I'm not sure how two years of that level of self centeredness is good for a future program. I addition, there is a big difference between a 24-25 year old and an 18-19 year old. I couldn't imagine trudging off to winter workouts at 6 AM as a 24 year old, or even wanting to live in places like Athens, Oxford, Bowling Green or Mt. Pleasant at that age. Seems to be the makings of unhappy people.

I'm a little surprised, but not much. He made over $40 million during his time at the school. Staying on as a consultant makes sense as the medical benefits are great because they have their own health system.

Does Wake have the stomach to hire a complete sleaze bag in an era that requires total sleaze bag coaches to be successful? I doubt it.

Uhhhh... This is the most transparent CFB has been in decades. The era(s) prior to NIL required sleaze bags because that's when pay to play was taking place under the table.

I have to think that the head coaches at the service academies are thinking they have it pretty good these days!

Army's RB is in the Portal. I had no idea you could transfer out of the military.

It appears that commitment time has to be made after your second year at the academy.  So I guess freshmen/sophomores have the option (though it's something that doesn't happen often, obviously)

The sleaze today makes the coaches of the past look like choir boys. It's so bad now teams are going to have to start hiring general managers to manage parts of the sleaze.

In citing Athens, Oxford and (historically) BG, you are criticizing three of the most successful programs and cultures in the league. They apparently don't have any problem getting players to walk across campus to morning workouts.

You missed the point.

Wake Forest must have a different definition of sleaze.

They don't have a different definition. They just aren't willing to reach the level necessary. It's why they will struggle to find success in the TP era. It's also probably why I may give up my season tickets the year after Akron plays them. Between the night games, the length of games, my disinterest in learning a new roster every year, and increasingly feeling like college football is set up for only a few teams to be successful, I think I may have had enough.

Game 1 of the new playoff is over. It was a bit painful to watch, but since there isn't much else on TV, I guess the best thing I can say is it was better than nothing. It was never close and the level of play wasn't very good. Please don't tell me the score was close. College is now pri football. If a pro football team loses by 10 points, it's a lot. Indiana is not one of the 12 best teams and never had a serious shot.

In closing, thank God the NFL is on today.

It's worse than I thought. The most to ever watch a MAC weeknight game is 465,000. We are destroying our league so at tops one tenth of one percent of Americans can watch the game?  This isn't exposure, it's insanity.

But the MAC doesn't exist for you and me. It exists so that Execs, University Presidents and University Athletic Dept heads can pad their resumes to move onto something else and get paid six-figures salaries while doing it.

We don't live in a meritocracy. We live in a plutocracy where a select few do what they want at the expense of the rest of us.

Sorry that your life hasn't worked out as planned. You should seek out some counseling instead of making rants on a sports fan message board

The problem in college athletics is the blueprint for the P4 conferences being applied to G5. The MAC etc simply isn't set up to be successful and the divide is going to become greater because the business model requires more money than we will ever be able to accumulate. In fact, there are a lot of schools in P4 who can never be successful at football.

I feel that's just college football in general. Most games aren't competitive. Penn State - SMU right now is a blood bath.

I think you are right. That's why it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to watch. I don't think it's going to get better either because it is not institutionalized for parity and it is run by TV executives.
