A former member of the school's administration told me that all of the Zips MBB starters were making at least $18K a year this season. Honestly if that is the case, much better than I would have thought.
Let'sGoZips94
Here is the marketplace. https://opendorse.com/akron-zips?athlete_page=2 As far as commercials/ads, I don't know where that information can be found. I know I've seen X and Freeman in at least one each. The NIL money most talked about are the P5s when they get involved with a car dealership or something that pays hundreds of thousands if not more. It's basically a salary for playing (insert sport but mostly football) at (insert school here but mostly P5). What will throw a wrench into this for athletes is if the stars like Jaxon Smith-Njigba continue to collect massive amounts of money and not play. Otherwise, the key with NIL was opening up the opportunity for these young adults to earn an income on the side - i.e. YouTube revenue, merchandise/clothing, cameos, etc. That's what was broken about the NCAA system. These kids were unable to earn any sort of side income. Take a look at Linguard's profile on that marketplace linked above. Coming from Florida, they probably gave him the masterclass on how to maximize the financial opportunity. $170 for a sales pitch, for example. Good for him, and good for these young adults. LoyalZIP
The Buffalo exodus has begun. Devin Ceaser, Kidtrell Blocker, Zid Powell have portal'd. Miami's Javin Etzler, who has played 30 games over 4 seasons, is in the portal. BG's Rashaun Agee, a decent player, has entered. Miller, Bass, Zarzuela, Drummond from CMU, though Bass isn't appearing as officially entering, IIRC he made his own announcement. 6 Georgia State players have entered Someone named Jarred Logan from Kent Quiet on the MAC front for now, awaiting exit interviews I'm sure. LoyalZIP
Just now, zippy5 said: I'd take Zid Powell He certainly passes the eye test. And the numbers test. A little trigger happy from 3, shooting 15-85 on the year. But 51% from 2, finishes at the rim and can draw fouls. He shot a ton of FTs, hitting at 80%. Averaged 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. I'm sure Groce will give him a call to test the waters.
zippy5
He was the one player they had that I was impressed by skill and head on his shoulders. Seemed a little more cerebral than the rest of that roster, and we could surely use a slashing guard like that next year imo

Zippy87
Is there a link where you can see every player in the portal?

LoyalZIP
https://www.verbalcommits.com/transfers/2023/D1 I've been refreshing this throughout the day. Primo Spears, Georgetown's best player who transferred in from DooCane the year before, is in the portal again. I'm assuming he'll go for a hardship waiver. He's one of the bigger names in the portal so far.
Let'sGoZips94
I wish there was a site that added stats to Portal entries. I'd be like a kid in a candy shop. "I'll take one of these 18 ppg guards, one of those 7 rebounds per game bigs..."

GoZips86
I dont want to get into a debate. I'll just simply say: Theres a lot about the transfer portal that I just dont like. Looking at how some schools are decimated after one good season just kind of sucks.

72 Roo
I'd respect Groce's decision if he wanted Ali back. That being said if John called to make the decision I'd say good luck somewhere else. Not because he left, but because he is soft on defense, rebounding and character. He'd be a Zip so I guess I would cheer for him from the stands as he played, but deep in my calloused heart I would not completely buy in. He had very few offers coming out of high school yet Groce recruited him, brought him in and helped make him into a valuable player on a tournament qualifying team. He cast that good treatment and effort aside. That's certainly his decision to make but it casts light on his sense of loyalty and I prefer kids who buy in 100%.
