Nate and Tavari first team, Gray honorable mention and Sharron all freshman team. Feel like we should have had more.

IDK...taking four of the 5 big awards is pretty good!

We absolutely should've had more.

- Scott got Sixth Man of the Year but didn't end up on any of the All Conference team

- Gray should've been Third Team

- Okonkwo should've been Third Team/Honorable Mention

Groce was the only correct choice for COTY. Glad they got that right.

Nate getting DPOY was a big surprise and I'm glad he got POTY. He deserved it.

Scott was also the only correct choice for Sixth Man of the Year.

Now go get the real hardware in Cleveland.

His case was certainly helped by the fact there weren't really any outstanding in the MAC this year. Miami was the 2nd best team in the MAC and, like Akron, their strength was depth.

If you're not on one of the top 2-3 teams you're just not going to win the award.

I'm happy for all of the guys that made the teams but I think I am happiest for Shammah.  I can't imagine it is easy to be that talented yet not start.  Instead of sulking Shammah knows and relishes his role and excelled in it.  It's also obvious that he has worked hard on his game.

Nate got the award by being the best player on the best team and being solid across the board in the MAC:

*  17th in scoring

*  20th in rebounds per game

*  16th in field goal percentage

*  16th in assists per game

*  5th in assist to turnover ration

*  24th in blocks per game

*  3rd in steals

Another stat indicative of his play and the Zips depth is that he was the top Zip in minutes yet only 19th in the conference.

Any MAC coach would or should want him on their team.  Frankly, any of the Zips top ten would be a benefit to them.  You wonder how a player like Nate would flourish without this staff and teammates.

Kent State somehow got into the NIT. Only MAC program. Only a few high major programs in the bracket.

Karma bites Miami hard.  They are getting the full 2007 treatment from the basketball gods.

Kent was ranked much higher in Kenpom and NET and must have hit the magic number in the KNIT.

Miami finished multiple games ahead of PCCC in the standings and beat them 3 times head to head while they also came closer to beating the champs than the Flushes did, yet no Miami in the NIT while Akron’s archrival did get an accept an invite?

I would really be steamed at the NIT committee if I were a Miami fan … I am actually irritated with them even though I am not a RedHawks guy

The NIT came out and stated back in the fall that they would be using some formula that weighted various advanced metrics (NET, Kenpon, etc) when picking teams. Kent had the better rankings with those metrics. I'm not really defending the choice as Miami was clearly the better team. I'm more just stating why it played out the way that it did.

With all the opt outs and the Crown getting first dibs on all the Fox media partner schools (Big 10, Big East, Big 12, and MWC), the NIT looks very watered down. I've long advocated for more mid-majors making the field, but not to this level.

In 2007, Akron was snubbed by the NIT after losing in the MAC title game to Miami OH via the Penno shot.

Talk about poetic justice 18 years later. Akron wins the MAC title over Miami OH on a last second layup and Miami proceeds to get snubbed by the NIT.  😂😂😂

Beating a team 3 times in one season should pretty much overrule any close advantage in "ratings". Not to mention finishing 3 games ahead in the league.
