At least he got a big pay raise and had a connection to the school. Groce's departure makes me feel like he just wanted to leave. I agree 100%. KD only left - after 13 years, almost u heard at the time (or any time) - for a job that was very personal for him. Groce interviewed multiple places and seemed to be determined to leave. Very, very different IMO. (But as I said before, Groce is a good man and I respect his decision to leave). 2 Quote

Look at any coaching change and you see huge roster turnover. The exception is if you promote an assistant like we did with Ford. Even then it's no guarantee. Edit: Didn't he only take 2 if I remember right? Hughes and that undersized pg? Memory is fading at my old age. Edit 2: Tavian Dunn-Martin Edited 3 hours ago by kreed5120 1 Quote

Zippy87 Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago To add more context to the KD exit - Antino Jackson, Noah Robotham, Josh Williams, and Aaron Jackson were the best players with remaining eligibility. Groce had an opportunity to pitch to all 4, and all 4 transferred elsewhere (none to Duquesne). (That's not a knock on Groce, just the reality of the situation.) As @kreed5120 said, turnover is very common with a coaching change. It may not be that way with Ford because it's a unique situation where the players already know him well and vice-versa. We can only hope. 2 Quote

We can only hope. He didn't take Ivey or Utomi either. Hughes only played in about half the games. Combined TDM and Hughes averaged 5.8/2/1.5. That would be like if Halligan and Oggy enter the portal this offseason and someone posts well damn there goes our entire team. Nobody here would treat those losses as something we couldn't recover from. 1 Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted 53 minutes ago Report Posted 53 minutes ago Hope the “10 Toes” sales pitch works better for him in Charleston than it did in Akron. 10 Toes is a lot more effective if Bubba Wentz (Bud’s Palmetto State cousin) adds 10 G’s to their wallets. Quote

kreed5120 Posted 34 minutes ago Report Posted 34 minutes ago Interesting to note, Campbell's head coach, who plays in the same conference as CoC, has stepped down to become an assistant coach at Louisville. He is very blunt in his letter saying he's leaving because the University isn't giving him the necessary resources to compete. Quote

Much easier to reload immediately in today’s environment. I may be misremembering, but I think KD took some signees too. Quote
