Interesting that it happened so quickly. Did he not get the offers he expected, or did UA pony up some more money to keep him? Either way, great news for Akron.

Probably a combination of both. He was probably hoping for close to Nate money, but P4 aren't eager to pay that for 5'11 guards. He would have still been a good get for a high major so I wouldn't be surprised if Bud gave him some of the money we had budgeted for Nate.

I think we were always preparing for him to be gone after he ran out of eligibility

My bad. Thanks for the subtle correction. I had a good laugh at my expense. 😂

If it makes you feel better there is rumblings of doing away with redshirts and giving everyone 5 years of eligibility. That's probably the only carrot the NCAA has left to dangle to bring players to the negotiating table to restore order.

This is happening from what I've heard.

I hope we didn't give him more money for future precedent purposes.

Probably realized the P5 market for 5'10" point guards wasn't so hot

I would have given Tavari an incentive laden deal. He has the potential to be MAC player of the year if he applies himself. I’m hanging a bonus over his head and handing him a list of things to work on. Everything from leadership and the weight room to how he runs the offense.

Well he's going to be a senior, so better get polished quick.

Chabi has 2 years of eligibility left from what I saw. He had a medical condition last year so I'm not sure if that's where the extra year is coming from. He was at Duquesne under KD. 7'4" wingspan at 6'9".

Duquesne finished middle of the pack.

Barre could likely give us Okonkwo-type of production in the MAC.

Should Chabi be the guy, I think he's an upgrade offensively to Okonkwo. 7'4" wingspan is no joke, and that should really help defensively, but Chabi's hands and nose for the basket look to be a bit better. It's all very limited, especially given the medical condition that held him out of 14 games or so last year, but Dustin Ford could really sculpt him into an All-MAC type big man.

If Chabi is the guy I’d love it. We have plenty of scoring, we need our bigs to get rebounds, play defense, and block some shots.

From all reports they liked him at Duquesne but he had a heart condition which ended his freshman year early. He would have stayed if it were not for the Dukes bringing in a big man.

James was not some offensive mastermind, in fact he was certainly a negative in most games on that end. I distinctly remember 3 missed layups in the first half of the Arizona game. He was great in other places, but offense was not quite his thing.

I have no reason to not trust this staff in their development of this kid. Go Zips
