kreed5120 Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 It should be noted that next season the NCAA regular season is expanding from a max 31 games to 32. That would mean teams would have to sacrifice 3 non-conference games, not 4 from our current total in order to have a 22 game conference schedule. Quote

I'll be honest, I didn't know there was a set max number of games. I just kinda thought everyone played around 30. Quote

akzipper Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 The fact that I'm rooting for Kent tonight makes me feel gross. But Miami needs to fall back down to Earth eventually. 1 Quote

OT in Portage County. 1 Quote

Let'sGoZips94 Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Kent is +19 on the boards going into OT. What a choke job. Quote
Zippy87 Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Second time in less than a week that someone had Miami beat and choked it away. 2 Quote
zippy5 Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Let Miami keep winning. It'll make our win in Cleveland look better. Does seeding really matter? I guess we'll see how these next three games work out but no one really worries me to be honest. Of course anything can happen in Cleveland but there's no one that I feel like we need to be on the other side of the bracket of at this point 2 Quote
kreed5120 Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 It would be nice if we could get Chabi back for Kent. They have two really good bigs and its not like our interior defense and rebounding is a strength even when fully healthy. 1 Quote

There are a lot of great players in the MAC this year though that can get hot and take over games. It could be a wild weekend in Cleveland. Quote
NWAkron Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Akron is 58 in kenpom and Miami is 90. That tells the story. 1 1 Quote
csims0917 Posted January 21 Author Report Posted January 21 That Kent-Miami game was ELECTRIC. Great crowd. Miami traveled very well. It definitely looked every bit of a sell out. Kent struggled in the paint which I wasn’t expecting. By the end of the game Miami was crashing every possession and nobody could stop it. That was some peak mid major basketball. My ears are ringing. 2 Quote

The Thursday games all will be pretty competitive, I think the 1 seed will have a significantly better matchup than the 2 seed though Quote

I agree they're not as good as the rest, but they can still be competitive at times. 2 Quote
MDZip Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 Nice story on Miami, but doesn't give enough Akron credit (steel sharpens Steele 😉), doesn't even mention the very close loss in Oxford and talks about the last team before Buffalo getting and votes in the AP ranking being Kent in 02. While correct, the 12-13 Zips team was ranked briefly in the coaches poll. Too much glorification for a team ranked 339 out of 365 in strength of schedule. 2 1 Quote

They've only played 1 top 100 team all season and it was at home after a 2 week break from D1 basketball for said opponent. Does anybody remember when Tiger Woods handed Justin Thomas an item on the course as a joke? If you look closely, it was actually Miami's 2025-26 basketball schedule rolled up. It's really hard to justify not letting a 30 win team in and Miami has been able to get enough media attention to drive a push to a bid. I still dont think they will win 30 games, but they are getting closer every day so who knows. Quote

They haven’t played anyone, and it shows. Playing someone like Yale or Murray State would’ve answered real questions BUT I think it's likely they lose worse than we did. Instead, if this is the model going forward, just schedule D2 and D3 schools outside of MAC play and call it what it is—and if a few D1 games are unavoidable, grab the weakest teams from the SWAC or MEAC. Against a real opponent, Miami gets boat raced. If UA played Miami 10 times, how many do you think UA would win? I think it's north of six!! Quote
