I mean we were favored in 4 out of our 5 losses so it could be argued that we should have won more than 2 of them. That's why it's hypocritical to criticize Miami this year. They played an easier schedule, not that ours was brutal, but they actually took care of business. It's more challenging to win all the games you're expected to then people care to admit.
-
Exactly what I was thinking. Not that we should have beaten Purdue, but two of the other four losses should have been wins. It's the same story every year too, ever since KD...lose every important OOC game against respectable competition, compete hard to win the MAC/C, then get smoked in whatever post-season tournament we make. If athletics is about feeling and looking good for the sake of the university's brand/image, why not just schedule a complete slate of cupcakes and get a national ranking like the fraudster sweaters? They have to get up for five games per season and are doing it for that reason alone. They sleep walk through the rest of their schedule.

Groce mentioned that he played a limited number of guys for extra minutes at Eastern. Not sure if it’s the change of rotation, playing fewer guys double-digit minutes or the emphasis on defense that has resulted in lesser point totals. Hopefully a couple of days off help our guys regroup. A guy like Barre should be able to erase some mistakes on defense and with a rim protector behind them our guards shouldn’t have to back down so deep in the paint allowing them to guard the perimeter more quickly and effectively. I agree, still plenty of time for Groce to make adjustments.
-
Anyway. We'll be fine. Groce knows what we have to iron out and he's got a month to do it. By the way, Sharron will be all MAC tournament team, he's gonna have a big weekend. Just a hunch

I'm afraid our attempts to improve defensively have been outweighed by the regression in offense that caused

He was active last game and looks to be again today.

We have a 6'8" scorer riding the bench. Last night we had 3 starters score 2, 3 and 4. We have a great coach but I'm still scratching my head over the starting lineup. I'm thankful for TJ.
-
Reminds me of the sophomore slump Tavari had. At least he’s a hustler and good on defense, but him getting back to form on offense by the end of season would be huge..issue is he hasn’t had it all year.

Kent can't read or write. Zips can't win important games. John's next endeavor...in process.
-
Young gives a great deal of effort on defense and is the Zips best smaller defender but can be taken advantage of on switches due to his size.
-
Freeman was called back up to the Timberwolves. Maybe he will finally get to be on the active roster.

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans

It's not in decline everywhere, and general data is not the type of data they'd be looking at. -

There is plenty of data showing college sports attendance is in decline. I was at a Texas vs Kansas State game a couple of years ago in Austin. Texas has a beautiful area. The upper deck had curtains drawn and there couldn't have been 7,000 people. A new basketball arena will be yet another albatross around the school's neck. -
The MAC pissed down its leg today going 3-10. They lost the SunBelt challenge 12-14.

Certainly they'd do research on other universities in similar situations before doing that. Unfortunately, I don't have that type of data. -

Respectfully, there has to be a better answer than this to spend tens of millions. -
Thankful for the week off. MAC good nothing better at the moment

It's hard to say, but I will say that the bleachers are uncomfortable enough that I won't go to a game unless we have reserved tickets, and I love Zips basketball more than the average fan. I definitely think it keeps some people away. -
I agree with Halligan, but its challenging to give both him and Evan extended playing time together. Young is a good defender. I'm not sure he's a lock down defender, at least not now.
-
I think Sharron is a very good defender. Zack's decent. However, those two are contributing little else at this point. I sure wish Sharron would break out of his shooting slump. This year his FG% was 40% and he's shooting 30% from 3. Last year he 46% and 40%.

If Akron spent $20 million on an arena, how much do you think attendance would increase and for how long? In its current state, has Akron reached maximum attendance? -
On postgame Groce doesn't seem at all upset with how we played. He was happy with effort, communication & execution. Just thinks 3-ball simply didn't fall tonight.
-
Troy's ginger was really good down the stretch. Akron didn't play bad, they just fell short against a team that turned the defense up.
