The free food in the club seats was fantastic a couple years ago. I am always last minute on buying season tickets for football, this isn't really speeding up my decision

I understand most spring games are going by the wayside, but this whole thing has seemed like an absolute **** show. Kent State is doing it right and now this is supposed to be the answer? Just a few years ago they opened up the suites and had free food for everyone. How far things have fallen. I’m incredibly disappointed as I can only get up there twice a year and the spring game is one of those times. This is exactly how not to resonate with your fanbase.

This is likely. If it helps sell a few more season tickets then so be it. As @clarkwgriswold said this event has been poorly attended in recent years anyway. I personally haven't attended since the surplus sale days. 90% of the people who go are probably season ticket holders anyway. The other 10% probably didn't care that much to attend anyway if a $75 season ticket is going to deter them from going.

Seems like a move to scramble and hold onto some goodwill. Probably a compromise between the coaches and the athletic department more broadly.

No argument there. The hope is if the MAC does expand to a 22 game conference schedule those would be the games eliminated. Whether it plays out that way who knows.

I think they expected more then the $6.37 they received from the split. The attendance was disappointing. I think I'd take the risk of hurting the brand over playing the likes of Concord, Heidelberg and Ohio Wesleyan.

They don't need to concern themselves with that, either. The expansion to 76 allows the tournament to get rid of 8 more of the pesky mid-majors before the money schools can beat what's left of them. It's not giving more shots to mid-majors.

Some of us are fans of the sport, not just Akron. By we I mean mid-majors as a whole. A program like Belmont could have made the tournament if instead of getting neutral court wins against Toledo and St. Francis they picked up wins over mid-tier P5 programs. They were never given that opportunity.

After the MAC's tournament performance, we don't need to concern ourselves with that possibility anymore.

We need to be at least able to play them on a neutral court. Mid-majors used to be able to build an at-large resumé by picking up 2-3 nice wins in a MTE. Those opportunities really aren't there anymore.

Is like to see us play an Ohio team outside of the Mac every year. 1. Ohio St 2. Cincinnati 3. Dayton 4. Xavier 5. Wright St 6. CSU 7. YSU

I like it. I feel like a team will generally come together as a unit more with more road games early in the season. I like the idea of playing someone seen as someone you should defeat on the road. Helps a little with metrics being on the road too. Now if we could play schools like Bucknell on the road and schools from “bigger” conferences at home I think that would be a good metrics strategy.

Did you watch CSU 1st round game in the Horizon League tournament? They hosted the game and there may have been a few dozen people in the stands. If even CSU fans don't care about CSU basketball why would Akron fans?

We're a mid-major whose ceiling is winning three games in Cleveland in early March (that also draws very very average crowds). Better to play as many local teams fans might actually care about that we can, even if we're "a level above them."

My understanding was Akron played at YSU in an exhibition game last november with the expectation theyd play an exhibition at Akron next year. both schools splitting the proceeds even to go toward their respective NIL funds. As for horizon league games weve played Milwaukee, Ft Wayne, Oakland, NKU, as well as Wright St. Dont know what the issue is with Cleveland and Ytown, but with budget issues these "local" games seem to make sense for all teams involved

Groce has 8 players in the portal and lost 2 of his top 3 scorers to graduation. He has more NIL to play with there, but it is going to be a complete rebuild, just like Ford will have here.

I actually feel it hurts our brand as I'd like to believe we're a level above both those programs. I feel that's the reason the only Horizon programs we agree to H&H with are the ones like Wright State who consistently compete at the top of the conference.

I do think a game against Cleveland State would garner a tad more interest from the average fan than another generic opponent. But nothing significant.
