Whew that was a "fun" one. As long as the majority of the people are right on question one who cares about the other ones? :-) 8 Quiz winners tonight, MDZip finally gets his own right plus Joe Akron (nice to see he's finally paying attention), AK-Rowdy4Life, tboned, bigzipguy, Blue & Gold and ZIPSMOM2 who has a right to be more to be proud of than any of us. They were close questions, Zips were 11-28 on threes for 39.3% for the over, and the crew of Cheatham (9), Jackson (game high 22) and Ivey (6) narrowly edged out Big Dog (21), Williams (3) and Robotham (10), 37 to 34. And did anyone get my play on words on question one, Fat Pants Sizes (Huskies)? Bueller? Anyone? Keep rolling Zips!2 points

Hunter Corne received all NLI yesterday and will fax it in between 8-830. Actual media signing is not till 4pm and didn't want the coaches to have wait on it.2 points

Got it guys, I understand. Just sitting here in my hotel room in Virginia watching EPL lead up to liverpool v. Chelsea, so you don't have to tell me about the growing love of "football" here. Can't disagree either with national signing day, for both sexes. Last few years have been awful tough to get names and numbers, and they were usually found on Top Drawer or NSCCA websites. Maybe a reflection on Larry Williams' emphasis on more football coverage? Don't know...2 points

It sounds like the expectation is for Ramart to RS, but it also sounds like he has a tremendous amount of talent. Good luck to all of these QBs!1 point

I agree with your assessment of the QB situation. From what I hear Nelson is extremely athletic, so I don't believe Johns is a slam-dunk. If you are a head coach, Happy Valley is a tough place to start a RS Freshman. It might be a situation where we see one starter for OOC and Tommy is ready before we get to MAC play. It will be a real tough few months for Tommy, while he rehabs. Hopefully, he is spending that time studying film, like there is no tomorrow. Found lack of questions from the media, dumbfounding. George Thomas is going to write another article about the QB question, and that's it.1 point

Balsy posted a press release by Matt Wilson, our president and the person who this thread is concerning. He didn't even make any comments in regards to it. Just simply posted the article. YOU'RE the one that derailed this thread by you trying to get your political agenda a crossed. This is the same way you take every opportunity you can get to bring OSU into a discussion. If you want to get into a lengthy debate about how OSU sucks or how you feel liberals are loony bins, go create threads in the off topic, smack talk section. I'll make sure to avoid them. Edit: I admit I've personally foolishly taken the bait a few times, but no more.1 point

I would note that Jerome Lane was a non-qualifier. And, Bowden's track record of keeping at-risk players (I'll define at-risk as either being transfers who had brushes with the law, or sub-par grades) is pretty good. I'll hopefully have some details later.1 point

...and as I post that it looks like Bridges is in! I think we all know who the 4 are now. I also count 8 local guys unless GT wasn't counting Corner as local.1 point

BPI has the MAC rated 12th and RPI has us 15th (we'll probably finish ~13 in RPI at seasons end). That's pretty much on par where we've been historically. What makes this year different is the bottom of the MAC has greatly improved, meanwhile, the top (outside of Akron) has gotten worse. Campbell's injury is probably partially to blame for why there isn't another team there pushing us. It's better to be a top heavy conference for tourney bid purposes, but overall performance I'll say we are about the same.1 point

I think they at least mirror many of Keith's teams in the past that win MAC games because they are part of a program that's won so much, and have experience in knowing how to get it done. But I will point out that this is different. We appear to be more inclined to outscore people to get those victories. I think it's also the reason why we're not pounding people in this league....in a weak year where it looks like we should be doing that more. I'm convinced that this team only has one barrier to greatness right now. It's defensive effort. If this team took on the "scrappy" demeanor that they showed at times during the 2nd half last night more frequently, this could be the best team we've seen in Keith's 13 seasons.1 point
-
Isn't that like...what we Akron fan's do? How many times have we lost dissapointing games over the last 3 years? But I will say, this team is becoming something special. They're grinding it out and winning games that, in the past, they probably lose.1 point
-
You're right. This team has earned the faith that they'll overcome adversity. Losing Big Dog or Kwan would be more than "adversity." So I'd be chugging Drano if that happened. But short of that, I'm with you. These guys know how to win. You are what your record says you are. 19-3 is pretty good.1 point
-
oh Ye of little faith. Joe and the Zips are of one mind, one soul, one being. OK, so I watched a little too much of "The Young Pope" ..1 point
-
I have absolutely no idea! And since he's just a PWO, I'm totally amped he decided to walk on with us instead of at Ohio State! Kinda like CB Jeffrey Lubin is down to either accepting a scholarship with us, or accepting a PWO w/ Minnesota, I thought that was the boat we were in with Bubba. Fantastic, no-risk get by the Zippers.1 point
-
You guys need to have a little more faith in the team. There was no yelling in the locker room, there was no panic in the huddle. Just before the start of the second half Keith told the guys to just play our game and get some stops and we will win. He was right.1 point

On the contrary you'd think we were down 40 at halftime reading this thread! Love it either way. Everyone cares, just with different ways of showing it1 point

I think KD may have threatened them at halftime with riding the bus back to Akron instead of the charter plane if they lost.1 point

I thought this game was winnable even after the first half if somebody would step forward and lead this team to win. Antino was that somebody. He played a great second half. This is the type of player you need on the team. Somebody who will step up when the team is playing poorly. Look at that steal on the next to last possession. Hitting the foul shots when we needed them. As a Zips fan you have to love this guy as a player. He is our best guard, especially when we are away from home.1 point

I can't believe we let them get a 3 pointer off. I would have fouled at half court1 point

It is amazing what can happen on the offensive end when you get stops on the defensive end.1 point

The problem is that we always believe that nobody will continue to shoot as well as they do against this defense. While 75 percent from three on that many attempts won't happen, it doesn't need to happen. Bottom line, it seems like every game, it's "well, we got their best shooting day." At what point does that not become a surprise?1 point
-
In one half at least, I feel like I am seeing the best Center in the MAC, by a long shot. And he's not wearing an Akron uniform. Please change my mind Zips.1 point
-
This game is still winnable. They are shooting 75% from 3 land. That will not continue. We are getting killed on the boards. No reason for that. I am curious to see who will step forward. Looking for a big 2nd half from somebody. My guess is Antino, Big Dog or Kwan. Go Zips!1 point
-
Typical Zips. Just when I start to believe this team is different they lay another egg.1 point

Idk, I don't really trust those sites. Jemarulin Suggs is definitely signing. Same with DeAndre Brimage. (Unless they're both non-qualifiers, or something. But they're both definitely planning on playing ball for UA.)1 point

I understand the emphasis on more football coverage. Larry Wiliams, et al, need to find a way to fill seats in Infocision Stadium to justify the expense of the Football Program. The problem is that throwing more good money after bad isn't going to solve that problem. Bowden needs W's. Getting to and winning the Potato Bowl (lowest paying D1 bowl), then going backwards the following year is not going to get it done. The Potato Bowl was a good step forward but there was no foundation for the next step. Personally, I'm done with it. Mostly because it's the same ole same ole...nothing new. But also because if they can't find it in the budget to provide more $'s for their best team sport, then I will...even if it's not that much of a bump up and comes at the expense of another Zips sport that is lower on my list.1 point
-
Please use your "voice" to inform AD that more soccer coverage is justly warranted, whether in season or out. This is not necessarily an indictment of Sean Palchik's work ethic. It is incumbent upon management in AD to get the job done with their available resources. I would not presume to suggest how AD should be structured. What I do know is that important off-season events occur in every sport. National Signing Day is an important annual milestone for MSOC. I merely ask SID to please take notice, to give Akron's proudest program the attention it has earned.1 point

@ZipsVoice if you are someone inside the Athletics Department (even if you are not), please take this as constructive criticism, as it is meant...Sean's coverage of Zips Mens Soccer during the season was practically non-existent. Mens Soccer is the only Zips sports team that has won a team national championship and consistently gets to and makes deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. Whether you're personally a soccer fan or not, you cannot deny that interest in the sport continues to grow significantly in the USA. I saw numerous tweets yesterday about the upcoming national signing day for Football and nothing about soccer signing day...not a peep. With the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in the hex for the 2018 World Cup and the CONCACAF Gold Cup games that will be held in Cleveland, and will likely have former Zips involved, it's incredible to me that UoA does so little to generate interest in our program. I suggest getting Sean some help rather than making excuses. Is there no way to involve an undergrad who might volunteer so that he/she can add the experience to a resume? Perhaps the undergrad does the "leg work" but Sean finalizes the release.1 point

As the 2017 class nears it's completion, I want to thank Zach, Blue & Gold, zzx and Zipsoutsider for their outstanding contributions to the recruiting thread. As an independent site with no paid writers or budget, ZipsNation is what you make it. And you guys made it an excellent resource through your effort, time and Zips Football passion. I've never met any of you...probably never will...but I've very grateful for your above-and-beyond efforts to make this site as good as it can be. Zips fans both far-and-wide appreciate it.1 point
