  1. Some observations... - I don't know if I've seen Akron get someone in foul trouble (2 or 3 guys in this case), and continue to drive at them late in a game. What a novel idea. - Free throw shooting wasn't our best tonight, but man did Parrish make 2 big ones. Not sure an Akron freshman has ever made 2 bigger free throws. - Thank you Smith and Duvivier for everything this year. - Thank you Can't for extending the contract on Mr. Pinky. He is a very mediocre coach, and that's at best. - KLac, man, he is a foul magnet. He brings a majority of it upon himself, but it's hard to watch. - If Cotton made faces (childish), shame on him. However, De La Rosa is a massive punk. I haven't disliked a Can't player like him since Singletary. They have some other punks on that team. It wasn't just DLR getting into it; there were several separate scuffles. DLR is just a junior, too. Imagine how much we'll get in his head next year when we actually have a front court. - Groce has done one helluva job with this team. Kudos to him. He really utilized his timeouts well, and put together a strong game plan. - Dustin Ford coaches A LOT. I love it. - The Can't State students chanting "polytechnic" clearly have no idea what it means. It's quite the compliment to notice that we teach subjects worth a damn in society. At the beginning of the season, how many would have taken splitting one of the series between OU and KSUcks, let alone splitting both with 2 key injuries?

  2. I hope that age and counseling brings him insight and wisdom as I think he could really be a player. All we can do is watch and hope.

  3. Not likely. The Zips had success in Houston because Dambrot realized that the area was a hotbed of mid level d-1 recruits. The Houston area is huge(6.2million) and growing fast. Add into that, there are relatively few d-1 schools in Texas. A plan was made that Charles Thomas would heavily recruit the area. It took several years for the results to materialize. Our current staff is more likely to look for talent flowing through the prep school system.

  4. Long drive to Happy Valley today but should be fun (and cold). Go Zips!!!

  6. Was just relaying the latest info. Biggest crowd of the year, 4349 announced, as it should be. I already had my ticket. Pretty good crowd to watch two teams having off years and only seeding to be decided.

  7. Since when did you ever preface anything with “I’m not trying to be mean...”!!

  8. Absolutely cannot stand De La Rosa. The punk from the Bronx displaces or fouls every time he calls for the ball. A good measure of flopping and other theatrics mixed in there too. Looks for opportunities to talk smack and take cheap shots when ball is not in play. Definitely a Can't-type-player hall of famer. The win tonight felt R-E-A-L-L-Y good - great job players and staff. Punch that ticket Monday night so we can mess with tourney hopefuls in Cleveland!

  9. Some quick observations: 1) The refs and the Kent staff should be embarrassed by what went down with DeLaRosa. He should have been T'd up AND removed from the bench. He was trying to stir up things from the bench and then went off in the line at the end. No room for that conduct. Funny how he stirs things up with guys like Cotton and Parrish. 2) Atrocious foul shooting from the Zips. 3) Nice leadership from the Zips vets. 4) Nice job with the Canadian National Anthem for Duvivier. 5) I've coached 5th graders with ADHD that had more on court awareness than K-lac. I like the kid, but.....ugh. 6) Mr. Pinky does less with more than any coach in the MAC. 7) Kudos to all of the kids on the floor except DeLaRosa for not getting caught up the emotion. 8) GREAT WIN TO END THE SEASON!

  11. Aggravating to see a visiting team with a better student section than any students section the Zips have had all year.

  15. I had a tough time hearing last night but I think the announcer said he planned to stay at UA and pursue his degree. Given the Zips recent luck with the health of bigs, I hope he stays close to the phone!

  16. He probably ought to be more careful picking his battles. Like picking on guys his own size LOL.

  17. Western went from being voted first in the MAC west preseason poll to finishing 4th in the west, 9-9 in the conference and 17-14 overall. Hopefully, their disappointing season ends Monday night. Their bigs don't seem to put up great numbers, so the Zips won't be at a huge disadvantage there. Slow down Wilder and play hard.

  19. Well we used to refer to him as the clown. However, I think Bozo the Clown toed the PC line, so Clark graciously gave us Mr. Pinky. But yes, Mr. Pinky because of the mild sunburn look.

  20. Hopefully we'll catch a flat WMU team after that performance. As bad as we were as a whole this year on more of a macro level - we were in so many game with top MAC teams this year and just couldn't pull it off when you start to look at things under a microscope. Odds are slimmer than they've ever been in my time as a Zips fan, but the MAC stinks out loud this year, so who knows?

  21. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Coach Senderoff is called Mr. Pinky because his face always looks like he has a mild sunburn. Close?

  25. You're fine. I just get a kick out of the hilarious "limited tickets still available" announcement when we know now that there was roughly 1,200 left unsold. And certainly there was a lot more than that when the message was sent out earlier in the day. Yes, it was visually the largest crowd of the year too. And it should be. And the students actually made some noticeable noise for the first time this year. So, thanks to them. Maybe we'll get back to sellouts when the circumstances for both teams improve again.

  29. Ball State just lost to NIU and potentially cost themselves the #4 seed. Wow. So: If Western Michigan beats Central Michigan, Western gets the #4 seed and #10 Akron will travel to #7 Miami. If Central Michigan beats Western Michigan, Akron is the #11 seed and will travel to #6 Western Michigan.

  31. I don't think that is correct. If Central loses tomorrow, they will also be 6-12. We hold the head-to-head with Central and with Northern. In that case, we would be the 10 seed.

  32. If this helps anything, we are now guaranteed the #11 spot. Even if NOrthern wins tomorrow, we own the tiebreaker. So, who wants to do the math for us and tell us what it takes for Kent to be in the #6 spot? Lets get in a third Akron/Kent rivalry war to add a little excitement before this season is over.

  33. I think per the rules they had no choice but to call a T on Klac as it was a dead ball foul. Not that I don't think Delawhoever shouldn't have gotten one, however.

  39. Is Kwad the fastest player in college football? After two seasons of middling around on the football field despite success in track, Smith showed out, catching 34 balls for 726 yards and seven touchdowns in 2017. He averaged 21.4 yards per catch a season ago, after averaging 24.5 on six catches as a sophomore. A larger sample set last year showed Smith can be dynamic when somebody gets him the ball. He's the fastest player in the MAC and one of the speediest in the country.

  40. Sorry, but I'm not aware of any central Ohio players the Zips are currently pursuing. It does make watching HS ball more fun if you know the Zips are going after a kid.

  42. I had the same thought but since we play Friday we have no way of knowing what to do. If we played Saturday night I would dump the game in a flash to play at Kent. I know that you do not believe that we have a snowballs chance of going anywhere but this team is playing as a team, playing good defense and the coach finally likes the product on the floor. Maybe we can have a team overachieve in the MAC Tourney. Finally, I know we have similar beliefs about Klac's abilities, but he played good basketball the last 5 minutes. I really want him to do well but he drives me crazy when he hesitates under the basket and just will not take the ball straight up. If he takes the ball straight up he gets that call that upset Groce. He who hesitates is lost.

  43. I wish to take a moment to note that I was the first one, after watching him in someone else's practice jersey to tell the Nation to keep an eye on this guy! Unfortunately, he never developed the 20-foot jumper he displayed at the University of Hawaii practice gym. But BIG credit for coming through when the team really needed him! Big <3!

  44. I don't think the loss of Poke and Sayles can be overstated enough. Inside game has been an issue all year. Same on song and dance. Hopefully we can finish the year out on a bright note by beating Kent at home.
