  1. Yes. But we have a life, and sometimes we misplace trust that our members will act like adults. Jut so everyone knows - when I cut the check to Invision every 6 months to keep this site going it comes out of my pocket. I do it because I feel Zips fans need a nice place to discuss their teams comings and goings. 97% of you "get it," and I appreciate your contributions. If you are a cyberbully looking to inflate your ego, you're in the wrong board. Start your own Zips site and run it as you please. But here, you play by the house rules. It's as simple as that.

  2. I only put up the thread due to the tradition of every game having one and thinking no one else would.

  3. A thread that bashes China AND LeBum? Let me add KENT STATE SUCKS for the trifecta and perfect thread (minus the reason for the thread being the embarrassing butt-whooping). This new coaching search is the most important one in program history. The ever-changing college football landscape has us teetering on the edge of total irrelevancy, with our only current relevance being a weekly participant in ESPN's Bottom Ten (thanks to our FBS level; total irrelevancy is dropping to FCS). In no legitimate world should KSUcks ever beat us this badly.

  4. Not sure where to post this, so I will here. I watched No. Illinois beat Buffalo in OT this week to go to 8-3 (6-1 MAC), and there were a couple of significant points. First, No. Illinois was winless last year, and the second is that 80% of their roster was freshman or sophomores. The third point that was made was that they added some significant upper classmen through the portal. As I rewatched the Akron Kent game last night, I heard the comment that Kent probably led the country in the amount of grad transfers that they signed so that they have a significant amount of seniors on the roster. This was needed to provide experience as the young players developed. I see some very strong parallels to my beloved Zips here. So, if Akron finds a good coach, uses the portal and transfers well, I believe that the Zips can make the jump to a top tier MAC team next year. On offense, the top players are mostly freshman at the QB, RB, WR, and OL positions. On Defense, the Line, LB's, and DB's are mostly freshman and sophomores. We need Bubba back at LB, and our DL is very thin and weak. So, if we can utilize the portal and grad transfers to add upperclassmen, the Zips can significantly improve. This will allow our young players to mature and get stronger and better so that they can be very good when they are juniors and seniors. Akron can be the next No. Illinois and go from last to first in the MAC if it is done correctly. I (and others) have made these points in the past, but the comments from this weeks games helped pull everything together and into focus. So, AD Guthrie, get off your derriere and hire a good coach, get some good upperclassmen from the portal, keep the good young players (and there are many of them), and let's have a 2022 season that we can celebrate for a long time. Go Zips!!! (no, I am not high to write this article, I truly believe in this blueprint)

  5. "100% agree. I would like Guthrie to go through each athletic program and tell the coaches that the standard is Excellence. Alas, excellence costs $$." "He already has done just that." Our football troubles are tied to two issues: 1) inferior coaching and 2) AD's who are incompetent in hiring those inferior coaches. Guthrie has his hands full, but he may also be the guy to turn it around. He met with all the head coaches and told them point blank if your program is not in the top three of the MAC then your job is not safe. Arth is gone. He was a bad coach and downplaying the PCC rivalry alone should have cost him his job. That was an obvious decision. Herlihy and Hanna are next. Some think the solution is UA spending more money on failing programs. It is not. Within the MAC we have nearly the highest football budget. Same is so for WSoc and VB. The problem is coaches who can't win at this level. Money will not solve that problem. We will have to go thru some pain, but I believe Guthrie can turn things around. The president and the board want football to succeed. Some on this board feel football will be dropped at UA. No one in administration supports that. Doing so would further set the university back in the eyes of the public. There is hope, yet I feel the pain of all the posters on ZNO.

  6. What an embarrassing day to be affiliated with Akron football. The single highlight of the game was the 6th year kickoff specialist kicking a successful onside kick to open the second half. That tells you all you need to know. Akron has lost 3 of the last 4 Senior day games by a combined score of 111-9 with ZERO touchdowns. How the hell is that even possible? This was one of the very few times of the last few years that I woke up on a gameday truly excited at the opportunity to win a big game or at least rise to the occasion. How silly of me. Gibson must’ve been so beat up from last week still, he looked off since the first play of the game. 3&out and then almost immediately Crum has a 60+ yard rush. We all knew it then. The game was short, but it felt like a long, drawn out torture. And as big of a Kato critic as I am, it was wrong that he didn’t play a single down. And then as Akron does start to drive in the last couple of minutes, they run out the clock in opponent territory. Just unbelievable. And not long ago, some local media was mocking Akron for the firing due to two straight close games. For every one of those, there are twice as many like today. I (and we) have watched a lot of really horrible performances by Akron football. But that one might take the cake for me. Whatever poor soul has to take over this mess will have to wipe the slate absolutely clean and get all Arth/John Carroll stench off of this campus. A .500 rival team just came in and beat us just as bad as Auburn/Ohio State did. They just took their foot off the gas. And it was still embarrassing. There’s zero reason to play that game at Toledo next week. That could be straight dangerous for these kids if that’s the kind of effort that will be put forth. Beat Fordham.

  9. Now 7-0! Reminds me of the 2014 World Cup semifinal between Germany and Brazil ... Now 8-0! Is PSU still on the field? Hofstra goals at 55:30 61:23 61:44 67:59

  10. Hofstra now up 4-0 on PSU. Seems like the Pride is pretty pissed at being RPI #10 and not getting a seed, while #21 PSU did.

  12. Yeah, because there's no Ohio State or TTUN fans in Toledo who would want to watch that rivalry game. 😉

  13. I miss K92. I think he removed himself from Z.N.o. because he didn't think it was good for his mental/emotional health. 😂 Zips football will do that to you. Notice how the Zips Basketball Forum is a much more pleasant environment. Go Zips! #1Akron

  16. I can name quite a few he has through friends and family who live there but I will respect their privacy. Bron is wise enough not to put his name on everything so negative folks like you can hate on him.

  17. This is where you are mistaken. The only thing LeBron has contributed to Akron is his name. He doesn't provide funding for his foundation or school. They are funded by corporations and charity organizations. In fact, LeBron has a reputation of being a cheapskate. As the many servers who have been stiffed by his greatness, my son being one of them.

  20. The fact that we're discussing the moral ground involved in a celebrity's sponsorship dealings is a very strong indicator of just how bad our program is and the apathy that has resulted.

  22. Well as of now from the outside looking in Lebron is damn near the only one pouring $$$ into the community where you see quick results. The city sure ain't doing a damn thing. I sympathize with Akron folks because living in a bubble they don't know no better. They are use to living in crap. Akron has literally been surrounded by orange cones the past 5 years. So Lets not criticize any effort given And lol at criticizing Nike when damn near all the crap in your home comes from the same place

  23. I have to agree with the Grate One here; if the Zips can get three guys in their backfield with the talent of Gill, Rosier and Craig and a line of human bulldozers, they should certainly be a-changin to the triple option.

  25. I personally wouldn’t want anything to do with Lebron. Absolutely loved him at one time for bringing a championship to Cleveland & for all things he has done for the Akron community. It’s not that he left and went to Cali but that he went to Cali & got all woke. He drives me nuts anymore

  27. Even bigjim might like me after this one. Early in my marriage to Akron's finest, we were at one of her brother's homes. He has a dog named, you guessed it, Buckeye. Well, I taught him to answer to Buckwheat. The dog would be in the other room and I would call "Here, Buckwheat" and he would just come running and tail-wagging. The BIL hated it so I didn't do it often, but we all knew that I had a good one just waiting to be used.
