Looking at 247, there have been a few updates... - Marquell Darnell was added, raising Akron's class average rating to .8220. - Tyhler Williams, Charles Kellom, and Kiawan Murphy are all still N/A, which I'm not sure will change at this point (although it should, especially Williams). - As of this morning, Akron is 7th in the MAC in Overall (Recruits & Transfers) points. - Nationally, the MAC order is: Canada (66), Miami OH (84), Toledo (96), PCCC (100), NIU (102), CMU (103), Akron (105), Balls (106), BUGS (119), WMU (121), EMU (126), OU (136). - Of note: Jackson State (68), Coastal Carolina (86), Liberty (88), Louisiana Monroe (134); no MAC school landed a 4* Recruit It cannot be stated enough the job this coaching staff did to pull together a near top-half-of-the-MAC & near top-100-nationally class in just 2 months when the majority of schools had both signing periods to bring guys in. I also don't believe we'll be done adding transfers. Spring Ball will shake fruit out of the trees, and we're a perfect landing spot.4 points

Thank you B&G for the fantastic job that you have done in tracking the commits and signees. The individual posts were great and staying on top of the lists was even better. Muchas Gracias!!! Go Zips!!!!3 points

If you walk through the student rec center, there are 3 regular courts students play on, and then two additional "blue courts" next to those used for intramurals and what not (at least in my time there). Significant enrollment drops seems like those aren't really used anymore and now that piece of the center is going to be turned into the practice facility. that's my interpretation anyways.2 points

Good post. When Coach JoeMo was announced, I re-upped my season tickets and preferred parking and paid for it on the spot. Even though the ticket office said they would bill me in June, I paid at that time. I am a Varsity A member as a former athlete and have donated to the engineering as well as athletic funds for years. So, please use your sermon on the graduates that have not contributed to the University. P.S. I have also hired probably 20 Akron graduates into my company and have been accused of favoritism. But I stand my ground. Go Zips!!!!2 points

Thanks, I missed it, I guess. Great day for Akron football. Looking forward to the trip to Detroit again at some point. Soon I hope. Go zips and thanks for all the great reporting from several of you folks.2 points

Guthrie has a vision for this University, at least athletically, beyond the MAC. It's a beautiful thing.1 point

Thanks TennZip and Zip_ME87 for sharing this absolutely amazing S.I. story from Istanbul and across D.A.'s career so far. I was quite surprised that he left for Turkey from Newcastle. Knowing the Yedlins' social and political activism, it was rather incredible that DeAndre would take up residence in a nation led by a religio-fascistic cult of an autocratic leader like Erdogun. If he wanted that, he could have signed with FC Dallas! 😬 So, so happy for the birth of DeAndre's girl Seneca -- no mention of it also being the name of the largest tribe of the Six Nations of the Iriquois Confederacy, and DeAndre being 1/4 Native American. That's the first info I've seen about his wife -- I wonder if she's Cuban-American or Puertoriquena or what (Rodriguez). He had his fling with his McGyver girl, now time to settle down and make a family! Frankly, I'm wondering how long D.A. keeps up the football game, as he has so many other talents -- maybe Becks can help get him a music contract, as his rapping is pro-style! Can't wait to see the new Roselle line. And, BTW, did you know the Fox primetime show Wayward Pines had a character named after his mom -- Rebecca Yedlin! 😯1 point

I get the sense from the article that they are refurbishing space that already have, not building something new. From the article- "The court will be a space in Stile Athletics Field House, which was made for student recreation but has been used sparingly." "The space will receive a new floor, state-of-the-art baskets and other systems along with decorations at a cost of approximately $1 million. It is expected to be finished in fall of 2022."1 point

Sky high is pretty high, but my expectations for a full recruiting year border on the unbelievable. I predict that next years crop will include two 4* (even though stars don't matter).1 point

We're still 10th (MAC) & 123rd (Nationally) for HS Recruits, but the Overall is more important in my opinion, at least for G5 schools. The Open Portal (immediate eligibility) is a gamechanger.1 point

And honestly, it was even less than 2 months. More like 5-6 weeks from when Coach Moorhead was 100% free of his Oregon obligations and staff was gradually brought on. My expectations for a full recruiting year are sky-high. Can't wait to see what the future brings.1 point

Melissa doesn't coach this team as much as she lets them do what they want, especially Dawson. Dawson forces her shot and under pressure, while going to the hoop, she is a turnover machine if the shot isn't there. The turnovers are horredous and part of every game. When terrible play arises a former coach-mentor of mine said "If it continues you are either coaching it or allowing it. It's your job to correct it and show 'em what you want. It must not continue." Yet every game we see the same crap. Melissa is a great person, but she has yet to show she can coach at the D1 level.1 point

He had me when he told the Mississippi reporters that they "can kiss his Yankee a$&." or was it "They will have to kick his Yankee a$& out of there". Either way.1 point

Missed 10 free throws. How is that possible on D1 level with a smaller basketball? They should me making at least 80%. They toyed with our affection...now back to the men's team.1 point

As I recall, he is from Kent. It may have been as easy as "going home" or just seeing 3 wins in three years as opposed to 17. He and the Hudson kid could have been nice gets but I'm not going to lament it today!.1 point

We have some size coming back at OL with experience finally too. Gray, Murphy, Robarge, and Williams are all 6'5+, 300+ pounders so it will be interesting to see how the transfers integrate with these guys. With some improved coaching these guys should do well. I am especially excited to see Robarge play this year since he was handicaped with a hand injury all season last year and played with a club and still performed well. Tough for a lineman to block effectively with only one hand to grab with. With all the new HS additions, Akron should be in good shape for years to come even if only half of them live up to their billing.1 point

I'm an empty shell of a man who despises Kent, Ohio, Toledo, Miami, Buffalo, that back up guard for BG, the third asst for EMU, the WMU dance team, and, of course, Whitford.1 point

this is a tremendous article on DeAndre I wish the best for this thoughtful, mature young man https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4578970/why-deandre-yedlinusmnt-staris-happy-about-mls-return-after-seven-years-in-europe1 point
