  2. In the coaches poll, Akron went from not ranked to #14 in the country I was amazed by Stanford's jump. Not ranked in the preseason poll. #3 now in regular season poll. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/

  3. "We want the high school players from Akron to stay in Akron...if they can play at the Division 1 level."

  4. I agree completely. I've sat in the Club level for the Cavs and Guardians and it felt the exact same way. The food selection wasn't the same, but the atmosphere, seats and everything else just felt top notch.

  5. The Man of Steele Leads Yellowjackets Recent interview with Steele Wasel. The interviewer isn't the best, but within the 14:00 mark he gets into Akron commitment. Sounds like his connection with Moorhead and QC coach is a big part of him wanting to play for Zips. Makes me feel good that no matter how successful he will be this year in his senior season, his connection to coaches will keep him committed to the Zips.

  8. I’m going with a comfortable 48-16 Zips win. I think our talent and coaching is leaps-and-bounds above 2021. I see no chance of entering the 4th quarter in a tightly contested game (like last season’s 14-14 tie with Bryant). The Zips feel good about themselves for a week and a half before traveling to East Lansing. Then the fun begins…

  9. I’m really excited about the potential of the DL. Without knowing what scheme we are basing out of I don’t know what to think about our LBs, but I do like the players we’ve brought in along with the obvious returning ones. I expect our secondary will also be improved and much more physical judging by the guys we’ve brought in. I think you nailed it on the offense. A lot of weapons there and if Irons steps up, this offense could be a juggernaut by year end. Looking forward to seeing the OL play. We’ve got a fantastic OL coach and it’s only a matter of time before they are one of the best in the MAC. May not be this year, but soon.

  10. It's hard to believe that you're at a UA football game when you're up there. That's an experience that is truly unique to Akron when it comes to amenities at MAC/most G5 level. If JoeMo can get things rolling, it could end up being a hot ticket. Hopefully.

  11. The adventure of Wrong Way Parker may seem like news to some of our younger posters who were still in grade school at the time he became infamous. 2012!!! How time flies.

  12. Portland played at Indiana last night....and came away with a 3-3 tie. It sure looks like Portland got "homered". Portland was called for 29 fouls and was given 7 yellow cards. The home team was called for 3 fouls and 1 yellow card.

  13. I thought that would beg the question regarding the best LB for Zips since Porter era began in 2006. No takers? Niko De Vera.

  15. Damn! That was great. Our program is in fantastic hands. I hope we can keep him for a long while as he builds a legacy at UA.

  16. I picked the Zips to win by 4 or more scores yesterday. Then, I see the spread is 14.5 points. I am guessing this has something to do with the lack of information on the Zip transfers that showed up in the preseason predictions. Even though I guess that Vegas does a much better job at understanding talent and transfers than the preseason predictions, I still feel that this spread is low. But, Vegas does not have a history on this new team and coach. Two of the things I check out when I look at teams is the Offensive and Defensive Lines. I am a believer that if you have big and good Line play, you will either be in or win more games. I went to the SFU website to look at the roster and coaches. First of all, I was surprised to see their head coach was a 11 year veteran of the NFL and was an All Pro Lineman for 2 years. He obviously knows football. I do not know any of the players on the roster, but I did note that there are 9 300+ lb offensive linemen on the roster along with several more approaching 300 lb. They have some OL depth. On the Defensive Line, I counted 5 players who weigh 275 lb or more along with several other Defensive Linemen around 250 lbs. So, they have some decent size on the D Line. With all of this data, I still think the Zips will blow them out. In Coach JoeMo we Trust!!!!

  21. Thanks for the great post! I will piggy back off it with what I've heard from people who've attended practices and scrimmages: The team will probably go as DJ Irons goes. The other QB's aren't at his level right now. He's got to stay healthy. Irons will not take the beating he took last season, where he repeatedly dropped back and got pummeled, and rarely threw quick-hitters. The OL is perceived as "middle of the MAC" as far as talent. MUCH improved over last year. The new transfers from Houston and Penn State will start. Xavior Gray looks to be the starting LT. Hopefully with improved coaching he had a nice bounce-back season. Wiley is getting rave reviews. That's good news, because I liked Norrils. The three transfer WR's are likely our #1, #2 and #3 wideouts. As a group they're perceived to be in the upper 1/3 of the MAC. TJ Banks looks to have secured the #1 TE spot. He's improved every week throughout the summer, and his size and athleticism are as good as advertised. D-Line will be MUCH improved. Victor Jones is really good. His former Wyoming teammate Ravontae Holt it also very highly thought of, but may not make his debut until a couple games into the season. Harper also looks good. Secondary is a work-in-progress. Didn't hear much exciting news about the d-backs. Didn't hear much about the LB's. Obviously it's nice to get Bubba back. Hope Boatang is 100% healthy. That's all I got. If any Zips insiders are lurking, now's the time to speak up!🦘💪

  22. A couple years ago I made a collage of all my old Zips tickets. It sucks that the days of assembling something like what's below are over.

  23. Zayden Laing-Taylor's Miami Central team knocked off IMG Academy tonight. Looks like Steele Wasel can run the ball a little bit...

  24. I think this game will be closer than we want through the first half. Zips will be playing for real for the first time in a new system and likely make a few mistakes. From what I have read, SF has a ball control offense. They will want to control the clock and keep the ball away from the JoeMoe O. Zips get more comfortable in the second half and finally make some plays. 27-14 win.
