  2. I sure am hoping that Gyuwon Chong was not seriously hurt tonight. His lower leg took a nasty hit when the MSU player deservedly got a yellow. Chong made a great step in steal/interception and he then made a great unselfish assist to Fitz for the first goal. speedy recovery wishes for Gyuwon. He is good with the ball at his feet and he is good at finding open space. I can not say enough good things about Joel Sangwa. His ball distribution out of the back is outstanding. He is also everywhere defensively. Great job by the coaches in recruiting Sangwa and Chong…from unlikely sources….community college in Iowa and Non soccer powerhouse Temple.

  3. Western Michigan is a pretty solid MAC program, and they lost 35-13 to MSU. I'm guessing the Zips are two TD's worse. Shocky the World? Probably not. Give me 49-13 MSU. I'd be thrilled to see us have some success running the ball, and protect Irons better than last week. Defensively, give me somebody with some speed. Week 1 we looked like a bunch of freshman, incumbents and transfer mercenaries thrown together in a 4 week camp. Joe and Co. now have some game tape to work from. I think the Zips will look better this week.

  4. St. Francis is a pretty mediocre FCS team at that. They last finished a season with a winning record in 2016 and most years hover around 5-6. If our offensive and defensive line gets dominated by them then I'm really concerned how bad it will look when we're facing FBS level competition

  5. #3 Elijah Howe’s fouling of Gyuwon Chong was injurous and cynical. It should have been a straight red card. Chong had clearly beaten Defender to goal. Howe basically jumped on Chong’s ankle with bad intent. I have countless times seen players ejected for much less. edit: Box Score is erroneous. The offending party deserving a straight red card was #20 Tyler Crawford. Upon video review, the NCAA should retroactively issue an ejection thereby enforcing the one game suspension. In no way will such action replace Gyuwon Chong's ankle, but it is the correct thing to do. https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2022/09/06/NABJ/e45c3651-1f6d-40b7-abb3-80b9ea115227-AKR_95_UA_soccer_3.jpg?width=592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&quality=70

  6. I know he was left on an island, but I wouldn't be thrilled as defenders if my goalie got that PO'd at us after not making an effort himself to block the shot.

  8. Michigan state was also the team , that in 2012, broke our NCAA record setting unbeaten streak at home which was 44. of course some of those were ties, but not many!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Following last week's debacle, my first thought was MSU by 5+ scores. then, I remembered that the greatest improvements in football occur between weeks 1 and 2, but this concept will apply to both teams. I looked at the MSU roster and I do not know any players, but I think the lines tell a story. I also watched some film from the MSU vs. WM game. Their OL is huge and deep. They look like they will pose a huge problem. The DT's are also huge and deep. Our OL may have problems opening inside holes. The DE's are not that big, but they put a very good pass rush on the QB. MSU's QB, WR's, and RB's look good but not great. Also, early in the 4th Q, WM was only down 8 points followed by 2 late MSU TD's. With the analysis above, I am modifying my prediction to say Michigan State by 4 scores.

  10. We aren't yet dangerous enough to pull off a Northwestern or Pitt type upset. A win for me would be keeping it respectable. No 49-7 type games. Also looking forward to see any lineup mix ups as a result of week 1. Most importantly, stay relatively healthy.

  12. Did others happen to notice 2023 recruits Caleb Borneo and Jackson Herbert in attendance last night? Great to see our future Zips supporting their future teammates, especially during a win v B1G.

  14. Fantastic job by Akron on being the ones to host this. There is so much money flowing in the eSports world, and it would be very beneficial to become one of the hotspots.

  15. MSU by 3 scores. I do not expect to win this game and I’m not too concerned with the final score. I just want to see improvement and also some other players given a chance that did not see much, or any, PT last week. Games like this are a great time to find who is a ā€œgamer.ā€ Some players perform better in game situations than in practice. We also need to build depth and the best way to do that (with the current roster) is give guys PT.

  16. I voted that the Zips win. Why? Because its early in the season and I'm hopeful something big like that could happen...

  18. When I played youth ad high school football and other high school and college sports, coaches were always yelling. It turned out to be great experiences for my 35+ years of business career. As a matter of fact, all of the coaches said that yelling showed they cared, and we better get concerned if the yelling stops. Plus, if you whisper during a football game, nobody will hear you. I was valedictorian, and I remember one time I made a mental mistake in HS football practice and was dressed down and told that I could not pass a test; I was motivated. It is quite obvious that you never played sports past TBall since you never experienced constructive yelling. In all my years of coaching TBall and youth sports, I never yelled once, but that was not Division I sports.

  19. Fees at the gate? Big turn-off for me. As you said, state the price and don't make it feel like you're fleecing me. 'Maintenance' fee, 'Convenience' fee, 'Transaction' fee, 'We appreciate your business!' fee, 'Just-For-Ghits-and-Siggles' fee ... we become what we allow and we've come to accept just about anything.

  20. A $25 ticket is actually $31. Why not just say the price is $31? We felt like we were being scammed. I guess the AD realized how much money concert ticket sellers make by tacking on as many fees as they can. I would expect buying online would have extra fees, but buying at the gate? We'll watch from home now.
