  1. The JAR is 1000 feet off an exit from a major freeway. Granted, the construction on the central interchange is a pain, but really?

  4. If my memory serves me right Tavari can drive and finish with both hands. I watched some of his high school game videos awhile back. Hopefully he will display more of that as he gets comfortable at this level. Edit: 12:38 marker in the second half Tavari does drive and finish with his left hand. I think he is going to be special.

  7. Enrique was always a 1 dimensional scorer (back to basket) with a shooting range of ~7 feet. He's elite in that 1 facet, but that's the limit to his offensive game. What you're seeing is teams are able to send hard double teams at him freely to force the ball out of his hands or make him force a shot. Defenses couldn't do that as freely as last year as he was surrounded by shooters that would make them pay. If Hunter, Hankerson, Tavari become consistent from 3, you'll see Freeman get back to being the offensive force he was last year.

  11. Just looking for thoughts on the recent announcement of a Sun Belt-MAC home and away annual basketball challenge. https://crescentcitysports.com/sun-belt-mid-american-conferences-introduce-mac-sbc-challenge/ Does anyone know if this takes the place of the algorithmic national scheduling proposal that was being discussed in the 22-23 thread? I like the idea of a MAC-SBC challenge but would have preferred a nationwide home and away opponent by algorithm. Anyone heard anything more about the national plan? Speaking of future schedules, prior to the Caymans tournament I heard Coach Groce day next year’s schedule is shaping up to be even tougher than this year’s. That got me thinking could the Zips be headed to the Bahamas next year? Seems like that would be a great trip for the team given one of the players plays for the Bahamian National Team.

  12. I would say that the Zips have forever failed to master the pick and roll. Even when the pick occurs and the picker rolls and is open the guards have failed to recognize it and get him the ball. It is one of the Zips pet peeves! Enrique has improved his passing from the post but it still needs work. When he gets better at it and his teammates start making threes from those passes, he'll find that he'll see fewer double teams. It's a bad sign that teams are so willing to leave a guard to double down on him every time he touches the ball.

  13. Talking about Enriques game. I noticed last night he made a couple of sweet passes to Tavari and Tribble as they slashed for a lay up. Enrique passed from around the free throw line. He was also the recipient of a no-look bounce pass from Tavari between two defenders for a dunk. This type of give and go action as well as pick and pop action with Tavari will free Enrique up for some wide open 10-15 footers. Something we have not seen from him to date. I'm hopeful he adds that element to his game during the course of the year.

  15. He plays in an offense where the OTs are mostly in a 2 point stance, similar to ours and certainly moves well. Reminds me a lot of Landers in the way he is built, able to change direction, block in space, and run. Although, he may not be quite as strong as Landers at the same point in their careers. What is exciting about James is the upside he has. Looks like he’s just now scratching the surface. He carries a frame where he’ll easily be able to add more mass and not give up any of his mobility. I wouldn’t worry about the star ranking or his offer list. James likely wont be expected to come in and see starter minutes in his first year, so he’ll have plenty of time to develop and potentially become an excellent lineman down the road.

  16. That crowd stopped coming when KD left for Duquesne, long before Covid. They've missed some damn good basketball.

  17. This team needs Tavari to be a special freshman if they are going to be in the hunt for the MACC. Him and X are the only guys on the court that can get their shot off from the bounce. Plus he gives X some time to rest off ball. Defensively this team really misses Ali and Dawson's length. The effort is there though. The MAC is pretty weak (Even for MAC standards) so I expect them to get better as the season goes on and be in the mix. Was sad to the the crowd. Covid scared all the blue hairs away and it looks like they never came back.

  18. crowd that was there was pretty enthused and very excited for Hunter. T Johnson had a few LCJ moves (minus the head jerk). As others have said, having Freeman out causes all sorts of line up problems.

  19. Fantastic second half. Great D all night. Offense was paaaaaiinful in the first half. But Enrique came out like a bat out of hell in the 2nd half, playing unselfishly and mostly smart, and that was the difference. Kobe has surpassed Nate Johnson in production all of a sudden. And Tavari will be a force until someone forced him to go to the left. Nice win!

  20. I don’t pay as much attention to the rest of the MAC as some of you, but I would think Tavari has to be an early contender for MAC freshman of the year.

  26. @catdaddyp in watching Jayvin James' video I think he looks good! Here's my evaluation: 6-6, long arms, looks great in pass blocking (wasn't shown much run blocking) and moves his feet very well. But I have little ability to evaluate OL & DL. Am I missing something? He's only a 2-star recruit & didn't have many other offers. What are your thoughts when watching his film?

  27. They don't need to leave the NCAA as the NCAA doesn't really receive any of the football revenue anyways. Without the G5 schools like Ole Miss, Rutgers, Boston College, etc would instantly become annual 1-3 win teams. The value the G5 has to the P5 is it allows their middle and bottom tier schools to pad their win total enough to keep fans interested. Perennially winning 1-2 games a season kills a fan base. We've witnessed that first hand at Akron. The Big 10, SEC, etc don't want that for their fans. They would rather just keep throwing peanuts at the G5 to keep their fans engaged.
