I've told this story on here before, but hell, I'm old, I can repeat stories. Back in August, I went to the breakfast/practice and send off for the team to the Puerto Rico tournament. I sat down courtside and at some point Groce and Ali came over to me and I had a very brief conversation with Ali where I said "welcome back" and he responded "it's good to be back." I could tell from the manner and tone in which he said it that he REALLY meant it. I couldn't be happier for the kid now, especially after seeing the emotion in his response in the video. I was a little bitter when he left but given his very obvious affection for the team and program, I am very happy for him and glad to have him back. I'm also happy for Groce as he obviously really likes the kid on more than just a basketball level.

If we could only get the citizens of Summit County to agree. 😡

Only 3 4Q points for Eric but did have the and-1 at the end of the game to seal the W for Moeller, 55-51 (IIRC - they reset the scoreboard as soon as the game was over). Eric was named game MVP. I do wish maybe he’d be a little more forceful in calling for the ball, but he looks like the proverbial “coaches dream,” as you can tell he’s a super nice kid, really encouraged his teammates, & really looks to pass the ball. Appeared to always play w/in the system. He must’ve really blossomed this past summer b/c I’m surprised he only averaged <4 PPG last year. He looks very comfortable on the floor.

The best part about this: PCCC lurkers might spend an entire day sounding out "ethnolinguistic". Should they figure it out, their next diss track will be... 🎶F Ali Ali... Ethnolinguistic too🎶 Thinking it's our new PG. Can't Read. Can't Write. Can't State.

Hoping for some commits this weekend. Early national signing day is only 11 days a way!

I didn't foresee having this much trouble with our guards settling into their roles. So I'm for shortening the rotation to 7 players. I am starting Tribble, Ali, Freeman and who ever practiced well without constantly turning the ball over. There is still the time and talent to mature into that deep team that rotates 9 regularly and maybe all 11 occasionally. And if that day comes, maybe we can get cute with a starter or 2 anchoring the second wave coming off the bench. I keep hoping to see 40 minutes of that fast pace style I love so much about Groce's teams. But we are not getting consistent, quality minutes from much of the team right now.

If anyone wants to see current Cincinnati Moeller & future Zips G Eric Mahaffey he's in town playing w/ Moeller vs. STVM today at 1:45. I'm planning on going to see if I can see what Groce thought he saw that no other coach saw. We were Mahaffey's lone offer. I don't like that. I'm still disappointed we lost out to Fiami on Brecksville PG Luke Skaljac and to KSUcks on Hoban 2G Jonas Nichols. Those are the types of area players we need to keep home if we want to keep this thing rolling. It's still concerning to me that neither of the areas 2 best players chose the Zips. If they had chosen Duke or UNC that'd be one thing, but losing out on both to other MAC schools? Disappointing. Especially Jonas Nichols. He's a silky smooth natural born scorer who wants to tear your mouth out every time he steps on the court. What on God's green earth did he see in KSUcks that would lead to that decision? 😡 Anyway, Eric Mahaffey will be playing at STVM at 1:45.

If Prather could help he would have earned mins by now. This is a good team we’ll figure it out.

The NCAA looks like a bunch of morons. They deny Ali the right to play but as soon as the Ohio AG files a lawsuit they grant him the right to play.

I'm all of out of likes. I agree with you completely. And with Ali, which was the plan, we probably have a couple more wins. Something else I believe you have mentioned recently. That said, I still support shortening the roster up for right now.

I think what Ali Ali will unlock for the offense is taking the pressure off the guards. It's well documented my frustrations with Ali Ali's involvement in our offense in 2021-22; stagnant, little ball movement, and wasted possessions. That offense had a tremendous PG in X2.0 that this offense lacks. That offense didn't need the Ali Ali iso game. This offense actually might, at least for the time being. The ability to self-create takes the pressure off the floor general. We might see Scott, Thornton, and even Tavari play better knowing they don't have to be a go to scorer or facilitate open shots as much. Looking forward to tomorrow night.

I don't know these guys personally nor know what motivates them. But my impression over the years with Dawson is that he is ok being the 6th man, bringing excitement on to the floor. IDK...like the star's best friend in a sit com. They come in a few minutes into the show, get the laughs, and get the Emmy. Whatever the case, it's a stressor or a weight lifted off the shoulders of the coaching staff.

I wonder if adding Ali to the rotation will speed our game up. Competing for minutes will bring everyone's intensity up. Ali is not coming off an injury. He has been practicing all along, and will hit the ground hungry and running. Look out NK!

Funny, litigation starts and the NCAA allows him to play. This tells me that they: 1) realize they were wrong or 2) are gutless ****ies who caved to pressure rather than stand on principle. Either is a bad look for the entity that's supposed to be governing intercollegiate sports.
