  1. Honestly, if they replaced the bleachers with actual seats, that alone would be a huge upgrade.

  2. That feels pretty big on a Saturday evening when so many other schools play that day.

  3. Maybe we should move that idea to the JAR attendance thread!

  4. I’m confused? Are you referring to DBs that transferred in or out? Or in particular Zayden? If so, was I incorrect in saying he redshirted or incorrect in saying he has plenty of ability?

  5. In 2020, 18 out of 229 schools that were looked at had a profit in their athletic department. They ranged from Oregon at $270M profit (due to a Phil Knight gift), all the way down to JMU at -$46M. Where did Akron land? #205 with a loss of $22M. How did the rest of the MAC do? #106 NIU -$23.2M #130 BG -$14.4M #167 Portage State Community College -$19.3M #176 EMU -$21.1M #177 Ball -$21.4M #179 OU -$21.5M #181 UT -$21.6M #191 CMU -$23.6M #195 WMU -$24.2M #199 Akron -$24.7M #208 Miami -$26.1M #215 Buffalo -$29.5M https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/i-found-18-profitable-211-money-losing-ncaa-public-scott-hirko-ph-d-/

  8. the main web page...features an article by the relatively new associate AD for Marketing. 47% increase in men's soccer attendance???? I have highlighted in bold.....the men's soccer words from Seth McFall. While his words are encouraging, I do not agree with his math. See my calculations...below. In coordination with our ticket office, our fall sport ad campaign was launched with the intent to create awareness of our home events, while executing engaging content that would entice the user to interact with our materials. Our coordinated attack with group sales and digital ads, Akron Athletics saw increases in all three of our Fall Olympic sports. Men's Soccer saw a 69% increase in group sales, as well as a 47% increase in game attendance. https://gozips.com/news/2024/1/24/general-message-from-the-ad-contributing-series-seth-mcfall Actual attendance from box scores...on schedules 2022 regular season home games VCU 1,488 wright st 1,418 mich st 1,411 ohio state 2.237 Duq 1,209 NIU 1,222 BGSU 1,129 cleve st 1,419 chicago st 938 west mich 1,477 attendance of 13,948 10 regular season home games average of 1,394.8 per home game 2023 regular season home games Niag 1,174 Vermont 1,618 S. I am glad that the athletic department....is trying to do new informative articles.....but I feel like I am being misled by Guthrie and McFall "new math"

  9. That’d certainly be great if it turned out that way. I try to give every player a fair assessment and am certainly wrong from time to time, but haven’t seen anything as of yet to make me say something along those lines. The whole secondary is basically up for grabs at this point, so we’ll see how it all shakes out!

  10. I agree, there really wasn’t any commentary in your comments, you were just explaining the lay of the land. I think he expects you to say that Zayden Taylor is a sure fire starter and likely All MAC this season 😂

  11. I don't think the JAR has the concourse space to accommodate a $1 beer night. It would turn into a crap show where the stairs would be blocked from the lines and people would miss huge chunk of the game waiting for a beer

  12. I think the beers are $8 and $9 dollars at the JAR - major league prices. Would love to see some creative promotions. This team deserves for UA Athletics to figure out how to get people in the door.

  13. Zayden is a DB on the roster. He is listed under CBs in the 2023 class. Verbatim I said “Laing-Taylor and White have plenty of ability, but redshirted.” There is a family connection with Taylormade and Zayden. Taylormade has posted in different threads about the desire to see the freshmen play and I believe even had the opportunity to see Zayden play in a game on special teams this past year. If I recall correctly? I honestly dont know what point is trying to be conveyed. The thread was originally meant to focus on just the recruiting of the current staff and highlight the hits, the misses, and potential currently on the roster, but has somehow warped into something else.

  16. Yes, the 2022 postseason games had awful weather. The game against Pitt was the worst game I have ever stood through, that includes the 2018 game against Rider. I'm assuming one of the numbers is tickets sold and one is actual scanned in tickets. One of those two isn't made public and I'm guessing that is where they got the 47% increase

  17. There are actually very few schools where the football program "makes money", when you look at the whole pie. There are now 133 D-1 football teams and only a handful (less than 10) are considered "profitable" by any private-sector measure. Most schools receive some sore of subsidy from the student body in the form of a "Student Facilities Fee" or "Student Activity Fee" or something, that is what pays for Rec Centers and Sports and that sort of thing. Usually the overwhelming % of that is athletics support, like we're talking 90%. I dug through the UA financials about a decade ago, and the student body was subsidizing the athletics programs at about $400 per semester per student, which means $3,200 over 4-years per student. I can only imagine that the "fee" has gone up since I looked at the numbers. Now Football will claim it also brings in the most money ... but it also costs the most money, so it's all a shell game.

  18. That's my hope too. His 3 point percentage in his last full season was .360. Hopefully, he has a run in him to get him back there.

  19. I agree that Dawson should drive the paint more. But as to his shooting percentages, I believe I have heard something about water finding it's level. I just hope it happens soon.

  20. Zips winning is #1 variable to grab my attention. I already purchased my Kent tickets upper reserved which will be my second game this season but I have been watching most games on ESPN+ / CBSSN. And because I love Riq and this team is GOOD I am hoping to go to Cleveland for the tournament. The two variables that keep me from going to the JAR more is: 1. Like everyone said it's just not that great of a building and the Kent games are the only atmospheres that are awesome. I went to Marshall and their basketball atmosphere is not any better but the seating set up is. 2. No restaurants or bars close to the JAR. Yes I have done the Euro Gyro or Mannys thing pregame which is fun with my buddies but the wife isn't going to sign up for that. We have done Lockview pregame but parking twice is a pain.

  21. I’ll be there! It was just $18 each for second row seats and my fiancée is a Miami alum. Don’t worry, she’ll be rooting for the Zips.

  23. Brookhart brought a lot of good JUCO WR's to Akron during his first go-around. Deryn Bowser and Jeremy LaFrance come to mind. He also got David Harvey for 1 year (5-star Frosh. from Penn Hills with mad skills, and no desire to go to class). Worked with Antonio Bryant and Larry Fitzgerald at Pitt. Guy knows elite WR's.

  24. Brookhart gets an offer out to JUCO WR who looked like a man among boys at the JUCO level. We’re well behind the eight ball on this one though and probably no chance to land him unless an OV happens.

  25. I got us at 77. Curious what our differences are. I only included Jackson in our specialist group (someone last year mentioned he's only ST player on scholly), I excluded Terray Jones. While it would be awesome if he was back, he's played majority of games in 19, 21, 22, 23. Don't see how he'd have anymore eligibility or any good chances on a medical redshirt.
