  1. Enrique announced on his Instagram today that he is starting the Freeman Family Foundation, a non-profit aimed at supporting youth and families in the community. As their first initiative, they announced the Freeman Future Leadership scholarship, which will be awarded to five students.

  2. Discuss whatever you wish guys, but as for me, I come to the forum in part to get away from the daily "controversy" cycle.

  3. Speaking of alumni parents, I remember only one parent that used to post on this board and that was Kwan's mom. She was always very nice. I started thinking about Kwan and it looks like he has had a very successful career playing all over Europe and in Israel. I copied his Twitter picture and he looks great with a very handsome family.

  4. I think we're getting a bit carried away now. We discuss all sorts of topics on ZN, from the players to the coaches to the in-game entertainment to observations about the game. I understand religion can be a touchy subject for some, but it was a short discussion about something related to the Zips, everyone was respectful, and the conversation seems to have run its course.

  8. Jay Bilas recently talked about Miami and their odds of making the tournament. He very politely ripped their schedule, talked about their KenPom, and mentioned that their only top 100 is Akron (he then said Akron is VERY good). Those who know ball know Miami are frauds until they aren't. February and March will be the tell all.

  9. I loved Chabi's minutes Friday night. I thought he changed the vibe on the court while he was out there. We're going to want a healthy Chabi for when Kent gets Whaley back. I'm fine with Oggie sitting and learning, though if that's how the rest of the year plays out I guess we could/should have redshirted him this year?

  10. That's what happens when people make politics their identity. There is an off topic section on this forum. If people wish to engage in those kind of discussion it should be moved there. I'll just be sure to avoid those threads.

  11. MMK really hasn't developed at all as a shooter either. If he's undersized out there then he has no reason to be out there atm. Especially if he's out there with halligan then you have two nonfactors (or at least the teams treat them as nonfactors) on offense

  12. Carlos Hart scored 32 of their 72 points in our first matchup and is suspended. We scored 92 points and beat them by 21 despite shooting 16% from three. We should handle them pretty easily.

  13. Troy ruined our chance of another Q2 chance so we’re kind of screwed their unless we face Miami in the tournament

  14. I might be in the minority, but from my eye test when I've seen him on the floor he still looks very raw and appears to still be adapting to the American game. Him joining the team so late didn't help his cause. He could have probably used an extra ~3 months of practice in the offseason.

  15. In case you forgot, we had a devout Muslim player on the team just 2 years ago. He didn't seem too offended by the culture of the team. In fact, he left and came back for more.

  16. Tavari was funny in the post-game interview messing around with Hardman and Lyles. Not a side you see too much from Tavari. Worth a watch. At the time we debated what the loss of Tavari to the portal would have meant to this year’s team. The fact that Young has hit a wall with his offensive growth answers that clearly for me. Tavari has been exceptional all around. One of my biggest issues with Tavari in the past besides not holding his own defensively was he was always a shoot first point guard. This year he is actually looking to distribute and because of that he is far more dynamic and effective. Good on him. 👍

  18. If Oggie started for another MAC team, that team would likely be terrible. He has a nice frame, a good motor, but he doesn’t merit any more minutes than he presently gets. In limited minutes he hasn’t shown much of a shot. He’s often off balance and on the floor. He needs to put in some work in the offseason and earn some minutes in 2026-7. He has potential, but he ain’t there yet.

  20. Hmm, I didn't realize that and didn't look at the box scores. I just relied on my memory which is clearly flawed 🤣 Well, in that case, it's especially concerning for MMK because those games were before Chabi returned and he's not likely to see an increase in minutes now.

  22. All of our wins are by 10+ points, so that certainly helps. Plus, two of the four losses were by 3 points.

  23. Despite the lack of Q1/Q2 opportunities and success on the resume, Akron being 50th in NET shows how strong our performance metrics are.

  24. I wish we would see him more. It's tough when you have a lot of depth, but I'd give a cut of Halligan's nightly minutes to him. You can see his potential when he is out there, he just needs to get experience.

  25. I like Chabi, but I also like to see Marvin out there. Maybe its more of a matchup thing but Marvin only getting 2 minutes on Friday is unfortunate. I don't mind seeing Oggie's role right now, he is a freshman on an experienced team like this, it seems okay for this year.

  29. So if Groce is leading in such a way that doesn't offend anyone, why is that a focus of some on this board? It's a choice to be offended, especially with something that caused no harm to anyone. We kicked Kent's butt for a 6th straight time. Let's get back to focusing on that.

  32. Yes, it seems weird that people fixate on it. Not like he left for an extra $10k or $20k. I would have left too if I was in his position and I would have no regrets about it either. He's in a position that he can play professional basketball somewhere until his 30s while his money grows and then not have to worry about a career post basketball. He might still need to work a little to supplement his income, but he can be picky what he does and do something he truly enjoys. A pretty envious position to be in.

  33. I don't think anyone is suggesting any players were offended. I think @VAZipis just pointing out a very real double-standard there is with religious expression. We all know and agree Coach Groce would never do something that would make any players feel not welcome.

  34. The NIL money at P4 programs has gotten so stupid that it forces players to choose getting a fat pay check and losing over staying with their teammates/friends, coaches, and winning championships. That's just the way it is now. No use lamenting it. Next man up.

  38. Has anyone else noticed that both Scott and Tavari have step back jump shots that are almost impossible to defend. That is something new to their games this year. Also, Scott has been much more aggressive in attacking and finishing at the basket this year. That three point play where he got fouled and put the ball high over the defender was amazing.

  39. Those t-shirts are the same t-shirts worn by the Ohio State football team. Easy way for young Christian athletes to witness & remind themselves "Jesus won" - that they're just playing a game that's intended to be fun; take the pressure off. Jesus won the greatest victory. Love to see it. *And people actually wonder how Groce continually recruits such high character kids 😆

  40. It is great to see Remi Agunbiade's name on the roster. Remi , who was drafted in the MLS draft, definitely will be a future MLS player. I know that Remi will continue to improve...and will help the Zips have a great fall campaign. When looking at the roster, I am particularly excited by the 5 names shown as forwards. Angel Lopez Martin Aiden Benitez Remi Agunbiade Ignacio Alem Farrell Ngongang Angel and Aiden both had outstanding freshman campaigns at their respective schools. Farrell really has great talent and could be poised for a big step up in year 2. Ignacio had some outstanding moments late in the year. I think that Londen Sears and Leo Morana saw time as forwards in High School. I am sure that our coaching staff will find the best position for them in the college environment. You can never have too many good forwards and I am excited to see this group score some goals in the sping and in the fall.

  41. The last couple years, the MAC was a detriment to the Sun Belt. This year, the Sun Belt is a detriment to the MAC. The only way the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge holds water is if it mutually benefits the conferences. Otherwise, I think both conferences would be better off keeping it to 1 game a year and reaching out to other conferences to create a Bracket Buster style event for the 2nd half of the season.

  42. Zips are at 50 in NET and Miami is now 53. With BG's loss at CMU on saturday that knocked out our only Q2 win. Not that any of that really matters for us, but we are now showing 0-4 against Q1&Q2, 16-0 against Q3&Q4

  43. Because I'm not a communist. Leave the commie crap to Kent - Berkley's Portage County Campus is very good at it. Go Zips. Edit: I realize now that you were referring to the atrocious national anthem singing, not the anthem being played in general (a topic that has also been discussed by people who have a problem with Jesus being publicly showcased, which is where my mind went to). The discussion about the anthem being bad is entirely different because even Hellen Keller thought it sucked.

  44. Glad to see he's doing well. Zeke Marshall's mom also used to post sometimes. He's no longer playing but is now working as a basketball and career coach so it seems he's doing well too. And if you want to feel old, he's 35. 😊
