  1. I just bought my ticket for the Kent game on stubhub. I just printed the ticket and I will be sitting with the Kent fans since it is a season holder ticket. I did the same thing about 5 years ago wearing my Akron hat and a Kent season ticket holder told me I was sitting in the wrong section. I told him I was in the right seat. He yelled for the usher to check my ticket. A young college student usher came over and meekly stated he did not want to do this but asked to see my ticket. I showed him my ticket and the usher thanked me. I then suggested that he check the ticket of the guy who complained and we both laughed. Looking forward to tonights game.

  2. Just a quick update on our signees. RJ Jones, playing at Cle St Ignacius is averaging 17,5 ppg and 6.3 RB. Jashawn Ladd plays for Ben Davis HS in Indianapolis and is averaging 14.7 ppg, and 3 RB, and Devan Christian at Clark HS in Las Vegas is averaging 20.4 ppg and 10 boards.

  3. My better half asked if I wanted to go to the game, but I let her know I didn't want to be surrounded by the stench and filth. You're a braver man than me.

  4. We haven't really struggled with the press this year until that Buffalo game, and I think the biggest factor was our 25 pt lead. We got complacent and lazy due to comfortability. I don't foresee an unathletic Kent press giving Akron many troubles should they choose to do so. In fact, I think if Kent presses for any lengthy period this game, Akron wins by double digits fairly easily due to all the easy points that will come from the 3 on 2s and 2 on 1s.

  5. They have 2 Gonzaga's of the midwest within an hour drive of them. Both Xavier and Dayton are better positioned. Xavier I suppose shed that title when they moved to Big East, but that's generally why there isn't a "Gonzaga of the Midwest". When a team reaches success they move up. Gonzaga was isolated and there was no Big East type conference on the west coast. They would have otherwise bolted the WCC many years ago had geography allowed it.

  6. Evan is absolutely the obvious key, same with Amani. If we can somehow limit their front court, I don't think their backcourt is capable of carrying the load. Too inconsistent and their decision making is usually Kent (crap). My darkhorse tonight is Sharron Young. He is a pest defensively and has the ability to go off on any night offensively. Look for tonight to be that night. Ultimately, we simply need to make our shots no matter who is shooting the ball. If we do that, Kent won't be able to sniff being in this game. Go Zips.

  7. I'd be bummed to see us leave Nike, I absolutely love Nike gear and its quality. I'd rather them focus on getting out of whatever nonsensical Barnes and Noble contract they have that prevents them from selling a better selection of items than move away from Nike.

  8. I hope this isn't a case of an AD changing to change so they can add something to their resume (Ex: Guthrie with the rebrand). I'm assuming how they value us relates to our contract amount. If it is a significant difference and the increase in money can be spent on the roster, then sure, let's change. But if it's close or something else not relevant, I hope he reconsiders. Nike is the premier basketball shoe provider. Jordan's, LeBron's, Kobe's, Sabrina's and even Ja's are very popular with young players. Having even a small connection to the greatest basketball player of all-time and being one of only a handful of schools to receive and wear his shoes isn't nothing either.

  9. I'm hoping you are right. I have a feeling that Evan is key tonight.

  10. Yes the bookstore deal whatever it is is horrible. Literally every other college bookstore I have been to is better than ours. Butler which has an enrollment of 5000 has a store that blows ours out of the water

  11. Nothing is preventing these players from unionizing and forming a players union. In fact, it would be a huge positive to the game as it would open the door to collective bargaining.

  12. Game day! This game is always a dog fight. Because Pccc mucks it up. I imagine both teams shoot better. Last game Gillespie and Lyles were no factors due to constant foul trouble. I think that goes in our favor as if the refs swallow the whistle that hurts us. With Whaley back we have to push the ball and create turnovers. Between Scott, young, Hardman and Johnson we need someone to go 4-5 from three.

  13. It seems to be a better path to MLS than USL if that NEXT Pro team has an MLS affiliate; a player who plays well has the potential for recommendation to be picked up by the MLS club.

  14. This post nails it. Miami OH is very smart for capitalizing on an exciting era of athletics. However, that intelligence seemingly goes out the window when they decide to plunge themselves into upwards of $200M in debt for a project that seems like complete overkill when the hype for athletics is built on a likely unsustainable run. Ray Kinsella built a nice, modest baseball field when called to, not a glamorous ballpark.

  15. Looking forward to seeing the far 3/4's of the floor tonight. I hate that damn barn.

  16. When we shoot the ball well from 3 we are unbeatable in the MAC. We just have too much talent and athleticism and wear teams down. We saw that in the 2nd half against Buffalo. However, when we do not shoot the ball well from 3 we have enough talent to stay with the competition but it will be a close game. Really hoping we get hot from 3 and send the Kent fans home early tonight.

  19. Surprise surprise the zips are leading the MAC championships this weekend. I went to the event in 2019 when it was last in Akron and it was a blast. I plan on making it out on Saturday for the final session

  20. Nike basketball shoes are far superior. That's one of the many reasons Kent still sucks.

  21. Yes let them waste their money. We'll save ours for NIL. 💯

  22. Maybe they will have another surplus sale if they switch brands again. Most of my Zips merch was purchased at the one they had when they left Adidas.

  23. There are guys younger than him signing professional contracts in baseball and hockey. They almost all have lawyers/agents. Who is reading these contracts for these players? If this is true, I hope Cincy gets every cent.

  25. This gave me a good chuckle as I can see the comparison, thank you! I'm just more tired of seeing Ohioans hard earned dollars going to waste because of vanity projects. We need fiscal responsibility.

  26. It didn’t say the size in the article, I’m glad that they are going for a smaller venue. I’m that case I’m all for it. Better arenas in the conference make it more attractive (at least in my eyes). I went to BG this year and loved it

  27. I’m done buying Zips gear until the Fordham AD’s fast food logo is crumpled up and tossed in the dumpster. Which would be criminal to do to any dumpster, but sometimes it sucks to be a dumpster.

  28. I forgot to mention it at the time and maybe just thought it wasn't important but it seems to fit in this thread. On a recent Board of Trustees meeting that I watched part of, Goodrich stated that this is the last year of our Nike deal and he hinted we would be signing with someone else. He said something along the lines of "Nike doesn't value us as much as we value ourselves". I would like to go back to Adidas but I'm thinking someone like Under Armour may be more likely. As they have fewer schools in their portfolio and we could be a higher priority.
