If Burton is healed up we may just finally have the elusive "serviceable backup bigs." @NWAkron will be so excited!3 points

I am headed to the game tonight, excited to see the new guys. I am looking to see if the combo of Burton and Barre can Hold he fort down and be productive. we don't need them to average 15 points a game but we do need Rebounding and Rim protection.3 points

There are so many new parts and wrinkles it’s hard to pick just one thing that intrigues me most about this new season. But with Barre being hurt so much of last season I am curious what his level of involvement will be this year.2 points

Akron improved from number 11 to number 9 in the college soccer news poll. https://collegesoccernews.com/college-soccer-news-mens-soccer-week-10-top-25-poll-georgetown-claims-top-spot-by-narrowest-of-margins/2 points

Had an absolute blast tailgating Saturday. Lot was packed early and weather was unbelievable. I agree with everyone's take that there was more than 12K there Saturday. But boy did I leave pissed off. I liked the Moorhead hiring but my god has it been a flop. Not asking for much just middle of the pack MAC football. I sat by the Akron baseball team and they all left embarrassed after that fake punt.2 points

Their size certainly facilitates good switches. No more 6 foot guards switching on to 6'10" centers.1 point

The combo of pence white and Evan I think is too big. None of those guys are guards. we are missing a real 2 guard. where is Henderson, Head, Wilson ? Kamrin Oriol Is our only 2 guard playing and he is a ball hog who is playing terrible1 point

I would agree. Not a whole lot of back-to-basket and not a whole lot of outside swing passes1 point

I would think Evan is the natural leader on the court. Anybody else? How does Ford look in his new role?1 point

A little sloppy. Look like a team that hasn't played together a whole lot. Will take time to develop chemistry. In the little I've seen Perkins looks like he hustles. I would expect him to be a bigger part this season.1 point

Yeah, I don't know for sure obviously, but I assume it we had won against Army and Butler, we'd be top 2 or 3 in RPI.1 point

Yep, 4th in strength of schedule according to this. https://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/2026/07/akron.html1 point

Zips up from #9 to #6 in the Coaches Poll. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/ Georgetown #2, Creighton #9, Cornell #14, Wake Forest #16, Xavier #17, St Louis is receiving votes...Plus, I know WVU does not count for us, but they're #13. Some very impressive results for the Zips throughout the season based on this poll.1 point

I'm probably most excited to see the size and versatility of our guards/forwards. We tried to play an aggressive style of defense last year, but the quality teams we faced often were able to move it around to find the open man. This year we have a lot more size and more versatile players. We should better be able to disrupt passing lanes and while we might take a step back offensively I think we'll be able to force more turnovers on the defensive end to compensate.1 point

Barre's injuries from last year I don't believe are anything in danger of high risk of re-injury. He has known heart issues that led to him missing time at Duquesne. Not sure if he's on minute restrictions or odds it could become problematic if we find ourselves needing to rely on him for 20 minutes a night.1 point

YSU is perfect. It's a notch above NIU (hahaha Toledo) and a step down from playing our rival (looking at you Auburn/Bama).1 point

This probably also emphasizes the "don't panic if things look bad today" because that also takes some time to develop. Feels a D1 team like this is a better exhibition game choice to help develop this stuff, than most of the D3s.1 point
-
Friendly reminder to not panic if we lose or look messy tonight! Especially with a new coach and core it's much expected. We've looked rough in some of these exhibitions in the past during the Groce era and turned out fine!1 point

It looks like the game will be broadcast on radio on 640 WHLO for those that want to follow along, but can't attend in person.1 point

After "watching" the last soccer game at Cleveland State on ESPN+, pretty sure different schools have different levels of required quality for ESPN+1 point

To be fair I don't know if that's the case either. We did pay massive buyouts to the previous 3 coaches. That's a fact. Whether or not someone is willing to pay $650K to fire Joe I have no way of knowing. If they did have that money laying around and were willing I would find it puzzling they wouldn't be spending it buying a training table, better assistants, or NIL. The toughest selling point to the next coach regardless if they're hired this offseason or next is Akron is a dead end job. The deck is literally stacked against you. That eliminates most candidates that this board would be hopeful about.1 point

i didn't know that was the case @kreed. then it really looks bad on the former AD for signing this contract then and great for moorehead cause he has Akron by the balls. But i'm telling you, if moorehead comes back next year the program is finished. i honestly don't see how it recovers from a 1-11 season the pee poor coaching and the non stop bitching and whining about everything from the NIL and the transfer portal to the lack of ice in the ice machines. just his bitching and moaning is an embarrassment to the university and he takes shots every time he is in front of a microphone. saturday is a perfect example. his decisions and horrible coaching cost the game yet he would rather cry about the transfer portal. he can't come back next year. there won't be any coming back for this program if he is back.1 point

I get the anger, and I want Moorhead out as much as anyone (if you don't believe me, you must be new here). But Goodrich can't just up and pay a guy to not coach, and the $800K he's still owed (give or take) is a lot at Akron. Do I think he's trying? 100% I do. But this season's already lost, so it's not gonna get more lost by getting four more games out of Joe.1 point

Fair. New plan - Kreed, I'm going to need you to stream the game from your phone. Bring a tripod so your arms don't get too tired.1 point

Sure there is. Having a lower seed means less/no road games leading up to the College Cup. We got lucky last year in having a higher seed and remaining at home throughout because the lower seeds in our quarter bracket all lost prior to crossing our path. Also, an excellent coach/manager will always find a reason for his team to play to its full potential. I do not know how Embick operates, but Porter had an entire list of goals to accomplish for the season, and this list made the result of nearly every game meaningful.1 point
