  1. When I think of superlatives for Kent, It would look like Santa's list, before I got to "Grit". https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/new-kent-state-football-coach-kenni-burns-wants-to-add-kent-grit-to-flashfast-terry-pluto/ar-AA15gfu3 ..... Though, If you were ever going to meet a redneck named Rooster Cogburn, it would be in Kent.

  4. 2 Top Stories for today Ken Niumatalolo out at Navy. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/35232562/ken-niumatalolo-navy-football-coach The Pirate Mike Leach in critical condition after medical emergency. There isn't a lot of info out there but the way everyone is acting around this situation would lead you to believe this is serious. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/mike-leach-hospitalized-mississippi-state-coach-in-critical-condition-with-personal-health-issue/
  5. I'm so jazzed up for the game today. I have on all Akron gear at work today. The guys in the shop are going to have the radio dialed in while I'm going to watch it from my office. I'm all in so I need the Zips to come up big today. ... or I'm going to have to sneak out the back door when I leave.
  6. I just searched Akron Zips on Hulu and the game came up. I have had that same issue in the past though, but at game time when I've gone to live events I was able to find it.
  7. Mason Taylor (son of Jason Taylor) scored on the game winning 2pt conversion in OT for LSU to give Lord Saban his 2nd loss.

  9. Wow that was a jolt to the memory bank. A name I forgot all about.
  10. Hippenhammer is their leading receiver with 29 rec for 360 yards. To compare he would be 4th in yards on the Zips. You'll have that when your last in the MAC in yards/g ; receiving yards/g ; and points/game. Their rushing ranks 4th but what is interesting is that Aveon Smith who has been their QB while Gabbert was out is their 2nd leading rusher at 314 yards. Running back Keyon Mozee has 376 yards. Its possible that going back to Gabbert could take away some of their productivity.
  11. Miami, like us, has been in a lot of one score games that they were not able to pull off the win in. The difference is they are low scoring games. They have been able to play good defense but have little offense. Gabbert returned from injury last week against Western but they still only mustered 10 pts and only converted 2 3rd downs. In MAC play they are averaging 17.5 pts per game and giving up 20. We are averaging 27.5 pts per while our opponents are scoring and average of 36.75 in MAC play. ESPN matchup predictor has this at 68/32 in favor of the RedHawks with the spread at 9 pts.
  12. Shane Beamer has brought a lot of new energy to USC. I have family in SC that follow the gamecocks and I keep an eye and watch the games I can. I didn't know much about Shane before he got there. The Gamecocks get looked over out side of Columbia, especially with Clemson's recent success. The Will Muschamp hire didn't go over great since he couldn't win at Florida so why would he at USC when its even harder to do so. That proved out. Shane seems to have regained the energy that the Ol Ball Coach had when he first arrived there. So far its paying off.
  13. Word is that Texas A&M is suspending 3 or 4 true freshman for smoking weed in the locker room.
  14. We barley get George to watch our home games. There is no way he is going to the away games.
  15. One thing I wanted to point out was how well Kent presented a game day atmosphere. I know a lot on here want to just say all that matters is the game but in today's world with all the tv time outs and bringing in casual fans I really think it does matter. They constantly had something going on. They tried to really up the entertainment for the dollar. Now they had their issues. They had the volume levels too loud. They were clipping on their amps. You could hear the sound lose the low end and then the quality of the highs suffer. If your not a sound tech you probably don't notice those things other than it seemed overly loud at times. Some of the music was annoying for my taste but I get it. I was just impressed with how they presented the game.... especially for it being Cant. Akron has never been good at putting on or managing events of any kind. The details never seem to get worked out. We have also tried some of the fill during the game, but we never did a good job at it. I think we also never had the right guy as the "hype man". We talk about about what it takes to fix attendance. That list is long. It starts with winning. That will happen under Coach Joe. We need to start working on the rest of that list. We need people, when we do get them out, to have a good time win or lose. To enjoy the experience as a whole.
  16. Texas A&M lost to the SC Gamecocks to go to 3-4. I have always considered Jimbo and Ed Orgeron in the same category. Coaches that are not very good but can recruit and wound up at a schools with money and an ability to recruit it's self. They then find a diamond in the rough qb that turns into a baller and the best player in the country. Stumble their way into a National Championship with snake oil. Then mismanage the program with their big heads. Jimbo after running FSU into the ground was able to load up with a new lot of snake oil and head west. He pulls off beating Alabama last year. Gets a 10 yr extension. Then this year is 1-3 in SEC play and has a lose to App St. He will probably end up on the SEC Network as an analyst.
  17. Have been hearing a lot about the Cant receiving unit this year. They have 2 guys ranked in the top 50 for rec yards. Rank # 10 Date Cephas he is a Jr with 44 receptions for 687 yards and 3 TDs. Rank # 31 Devontez Walker he is a So. with 36 receptions for 544 yards and 5 TDs. As for us Shocky is ranked 23 with 42 receptions for 579 and 2 TDs. and George is # 77 with 41 recs. for 441 yrds and 0 Tds (fyi for wondering minds - Mumpfield is ranked 261 24 recs for 257 yrds and 1 TD. )
  18. On the "you had one job". Rick Neuheisel said that the CBS team at the end of the Tenn vs Alabama got caught up in the game and didn't remove the cameras on the goal post. They usually do this with a couple min to go. He said that the mistake was a 6 figure mistake.
  19. John Mackey was the Rover. When he got hurt in 06 the issues with the 3-3-5 really showed. I believe his injury ultimately lead to us not being able to repeat. Someone mentioned Lee Owens going .500 in his last season. He actually went 7-5 and 5-3 in conference. Which seems crazy now. I always look back at the 2000's as a magical time in the MAC. All the coaches that came out of that time like Urban Meyer and Brian Kelly. The MAC and what we refer to now as G5 schools developing the spread and the upsets of the bigger schools because they were not equip to handle the speed on offence. Yes Northern was really good at running the ball. They beat a ranked Alabama in 2003 with Michael Turner running the ball. They followed Turner up with Garret Wolf.
  20. Ohio should of lost to Fordham. The game was ugly. 228 yards in penalties. The officials made it about them. What cost Fordham is they were down by one and driving. They got flagged for holding and their coach flipped out and slammed down his headset... They flagged him for unsportsman. That put them too far behind on the chain. On the last play they tried razzle dazzle. They ended up fumbling it and Ohio returned it for a score.
  21. I don't see why PJ would make that move. To start all over to just be in the same position. ... besides he has 10,000 lakes to row is boat in.
  22. This is interesting decision for Matt Campbell. At this point it would be a possible lateral move. Nebraska could offer up more money but Matt turned down the Detroit Lions. A job he could of made more but the risk of getting fired is high. I think the Nebraska job is the same way. High risk high reward. At Iowa State you can have stability being a big fish in a small pond. 2 of the perennial powers are leaving your conference. The new playoff format means you can make it by winning your conference and not having to be ranked particularly high. The flip side to that is do you think the BIG 12 is capable of sustaining itself. If you don't think so then where does Iowa State fit in the landscape of a new conference? The BIG 10 isn't going anywhere and is pumping money into the veins of its schools like a junky. If you think you can turn Nebraska around, there is a lot of upside. I think for Matt, ever pro has a con. For Nebraska, the Frank Solich curse is real.
  23. When i turned this game on I was surprised when they said Kyle Vantrease. Our pal @Cykronhad to be proud.
  24. I was quoting Karl Benson on that part. lol
