I hope you are right. T & F is such a beautiful sport. I especially loved watching our team smoke the rest of the MAC, altho' EMU and Kent always pushed us to be our best. Mitchell was highly respected by area track coaches. He assembled a great staff of assistants in their specialties. Perhaps the best of all was Labadie in the intermediate distances. He was world class as evidenced by the growth and performance of Clayton Murphy. There is talent in NE Ohio and the state in general. i hope we get the lion's share of it.

UMass may be a better fit for Ryan. He was not going to get PT here so it was time to move on. I hope he does well and wish him the best of luck in their program.

I have seen nothing in this program's leadership that inspires confidence. Mitchell had us as a top 25 program despite limited resources. We need to copy what he did, not destroy it.

Position Preview (and updates) - Wide Receiver

Short of getting a stud for QB this is great news. JD is a good coach and man. He gets Zip football for all its ups and mostly downs. He clicked with Joe. That relationship will have a positive affect on the entire rest of the team. We talk about creating a great culture, this is another step in achieving that. Welcome back coach, glad you are here! -
I watched the women at OU. Without Haney we are pathetic at PG. Woods is a turnover machine. She doesn't run the point as much as she dribbles hoping something will surface. She repeatedly went into the paint only to be blocked or lose the ball. Bass is incredible, far better than the rest of the team. I thought coach Ryan had recruited a few good D1 players to support Bass. Mobley is a good, young addition, but that is not the case with the rest of the newbies, except Haney. I hope during the course of the season he can put a more cohesive team out. Against OU they looked lost w/o Haney.

I watched that game too. Gray did not distinguish himself, but he played better than he ever played in a Zip uniform. i was glad to see him transfer as I felt there was no way he would ever help us. Based on what I saw in games i still stick by that. Kudos to him and his Liberty coaches who helped him begin to reach his potential. -
I don't feel good about this team if the roster stands as Catdaddy has predicted. Too many question marks with no solid QB or OL amongst the biggest ones. Please Santa return with more productive players i don't care where Santa finds them (TP, Bench, HS, JC).

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season

Just goes to show that in all of sports QB is the most important position. OSU had poor QB play and the inevitable result ensued. We have the same problem to a worse degree. Please Joe bring in better talent than Taj and Wassel. -
Merry Christmas! We need more of the sisters on this board. Oh, and Happy New Year Zip sisters!
-
Dumb and dumber. The NCAA refuses to lead. They only follow and they are pee poor in doing so.
-
Merry Christmas to all on this board. I am grateful for your posts and discussions. Thanks to all who make it the best and especially to the founders who keep it first class. Wishing you all a blessed Christmas and many more years of beating Kent. Ho! Ho! Ho! Go Zips!

I don't know what his issue was but he needs to be out of EMU football for good. The school and the MAC should offer and apology. The local DA should charge him with assault. If they have an issue with the venue being in South Alabama territory then don't go. The MAC is looking bad enough, don't make it worse.

He was one of the best. His quickness and speed have not been matched since his playing days at UA. He handled the ball w/o have TO's. He could drive and had a good shot. He came at he right time and Huggins put him on a good team that he, or they, complimented each other very well. You would have enjoyed watching him play.

It seems there is very little excitement on this year's signing date. We may have picked up some players who will help, but they and we need a QB as first to tenth priority. After a QB it is OL talent upgrades. With that being obvious to all I've got to believe Joe is too smart not to be in the process of taking care of the QB issue first. The relative quiet leads me to hope that behind the scenes new winning QB talent will be acquired. That's all I want for Christmas! (Cue: Mariah Carey breaking out in "All I Want for Christmas")

I believe he is doing a good job. He has brought much needed purposeful change. He makes good hires and articulates a solid plan to rebuild enrollment, recognizing it will never be as high as it once was. His wife Georgia seems the perfect match for a university president. She is every bit as sharp as he is.

I'm imagining this recruit is a Tribble who can actually shoot from the outside. That would be huge.

I'm going to tell my friends that I will be in "The room where it happened."
-
Which is inevitable. The rich want to get richer. they will eventually start feeding of themselves as college football is wrecked in the uppermost division.
-
I'll do it in Gifts In Kind such as Great Lakes Christmas Ale. That should get him here.
-
I like Joe too. He does a very good job with little support. His comments are informed and positive despite being given little to be positive about. He loves the Zips. Any criticism of him is based on style and not substance. He's unique, he's ours and I am glad to have him.

Enough of being Mr. Nice Guy, sue the (NCAA) bastards! 😡

In a QB the winning foundation has to be there. In Bullock I don't see it. With him decision making and accuracy are lost. He has had a spring season (I think), off-season, pre-season and a full season to show progress. It hasn't been there. If Joe is counting on him we are building a house of cards that will collapse under pressure. A new QB or two must be brought in. I am most curious to find out why there is zero mention of Steele Wasel 6'3" 215. His signing was heralded and supposedly we beat out Oregon so he must have had some ability. Why has he seemingly fallen off the radar? Even when we were desperate for a win he was not discussed as an option. Did the staff find he was way below expectations?

Akron to play Ohio State to open the 2024 season
72 Roo replied to LZIp's topic in Akron Zips Football
I would renew the series with YSU for the opening game each year. I would also only do it if YSU accepted a 2 for 1 contract ( 2 at UA for 1 at YSU). I don't think YSU would accept that, but those are the conditions under which I would play them. -
I watched the Crew playoff game at a microbrewery outside Columbus with a friend whose daughter plays for OP (Ohio Premier). OP is the best club side in central Ohio for women. They are one of five Ohio clubs that play in the ECNL (Elite Club National League). She said Jen has signed four girls off of this season's OP team. In her opinion they are better than the talent UA has signed in the past. She also said Vakos is the real deal and undoubtedly the best GK in Ohio. Jen could be on the cusp of turning this around.

Brilliant review Catdaddy. I always appreciate your perspective. There are two points I'd like to offer a different view. I feel you were optimistic with the OL review. I do not feel we have depth or quality. We keep hoping that with time the young players will get better. That has been a mantra with the OL for the last 10 years. They are what they are, and that's not very good. We have discipline issues that showed in the first game and repeated in every game of the season to the end. An example: everyone knows Gaithings mouth is a ticking time bomb. Yet the coaches have been ineffective in addressing it. That tells me the coaches either tolerate it or don't consider it an issue. Regardless, the season is mercilessly done. Joe talks about the path Miami took to return to respectability. I hope we follow it, but, frankly, I expect better. Coaching matters. They have to do a better job. I continue to hope they will.
