The highest paid coach and 4our years of no results except a win over Houston.  Yeah, let's give him a raise or hire one his assts at the same salary.  I sense some concerned trolling going on here because Groce isn't leaking info.

I get the disappointment with losing him, but I don't get the type of anger that results in you withdrawing your money.

I hope you saw what happened when people became disenchanted with the last President here.  People and Companies do speak with their wallets and bank accounts. This kind of stuff happens all the time.  Not surprised.

WTF?  Absurd.  Not even comparable on any level.

No, I haven't heard that at all.

I don't know why it's a shock to some people that there are supporters of a longtime coach who wanted him to be retained, and are pissed that he's not still here.  Isn't that going to be the case with any coaching change?  I'm sure that we just won't know for a long time how strong that legion of supports is, or how long they might be pissed.

1) Because there is no "retaining" a person that was under contract through, what, 2022?

2) Because they can be pissed that he's not here, but that's not the University's fault, so why is the University being punished?

3) If the University makes the change, yes. But the University did not make the the change themselves.

And Captain Kangaroo nailed it. It's probably more like $, not $$$.

Oh, I've seen it and I clearly understand people talk with their money.  I just don't understand it in THIS situation.

I mean what did they want UA to do? Give him another raise and extension after missing the NCAAT the past 4 years? Then rinse and repeat in a couple years when someone else offers him? At some point you have to stand your ground

I wish.  But it's not small change in the cases i know about.  Others will have to speak for themselves.  I think I've already said too much already.

And since I feel like you might have responded as if you're directing your anger at me, please know that I am not planning any change.  I'm actually a bit disappointed in some cases in what I am seeing in some of the e-mails I am reading.  But, some people are pissed, and certainly have a right to feel however they want to feel.

President Wilson was involved in the hire obviously.  Wilson saved our university close to $400,000 to 500,000 each year with his salary.  Also, selling the house will garner the university maybe $600,000.  Then Wilson, Williams, and Van Horn (like them or hate them) hired a coach who saves us around $1 million for his first two years.   President Wilson and Coach Groce (yes this is a very, very rough estimate) have saved the university around $2.5 to $3 million, but a few donors are pulling their small change from the Zfund.  I think the University and the program will be just fine.

Even "Joe Akron" voted this was a good hire.  What more do you people want?

Do these people understand that KD is the one who left and that he was NOT fired?!!!

What was the AD supposed to do?

Many in the "KNOW" know it wasn't as simple as that...

With that being said, Groce should keep a guy related to the program in some way... In NE Ohio, what he "claims" to know so well and used the LeBron quote like it was in his own belief system, we do take care of our own.  Would love to see an UA guy...

Good Lord.  Would someone "in the know" please private message me and let me out of my misery?

GT's already unearthed everything there is to know about the situation.

The context clues are there. I bet if you made an educated guess just based on the posts in this thread, you'd be pretty close to the mark.

Who gives a damn. He's gone. Also screw getting a UA guy just to get a UA guy. I want the best guys and he already has 2 pretty good ones. I don't see how having a Nick Dials just to have a NIck Dials provides any value.

Only if he's a good recruiter.  Recruiting is 90% of the battle.

That coaching staff had become so inbred it was getting pathetic.  We needed fresh blood.  Desperately.

And we got it, baby!

And to be clear, I am not saying Nick Dials isn't worth having or is a bad coach. I am just saying it's lazy rationale if your only reason for wanting him is because he has UA ties.

Exactly.  We want the best available.  Our progrum is at a level nationally (thank you, KD) that we can go for more.

I say the same thing when people try grading our recruiting classes solely on the number of NEO players we get or don't get.. Whether it's players or coaches, I want the best talent we can get. It doesn't matter to me if they are from Akron or from the opposite side of the country.
