Game 7- UNLV

Moving on quickly from the Cayman abomination.

 

After a week off for Thanksgiving, the Zips head to Las Vegas next Tuesday to face the Runnin' Rebels.  Currently, the Rebels are 2-2 with wins over Stetson and Pepperdine and losses to Florida State and Southern.  They place Richmond tonight.

 

UNLV plays in the Mountain West where they were predicted to finish 6th in the preseason poll (3 spots ahead of Utah State!).  Guard Dedan Thomas Jr. was chosen as the preseason Freshman of the Year.  6'9' graduate student forward Kalib Boone is leading their scoring at 14.3 ppg while kicking in 5 rpg.   6'6" fifth year forward Jalen Hill averages 13.3 ppg while leading rebounding at 7.5 rpg.

It looks like the game is being streamed on the mountain west network at 10 eastern and it looks like it is a free stream.  Lets hope we play better than last week.  I know that Groce always stresses toughness.  I cannot say that this team is a very physical team.  We are athletic but not very strong.  If we are not a physical team, we better be able to shoot from outside.

The Mountain West Network is a phenomenal platform. Really excited for this game despite the disappointing showing in the Caymans.

I was disappointed in the Caymans. Something I always say is modern Basketball is a Guards game. having a big man is very important, but to win a MAC Title we are going to need to a Guard step up as the end of game guy. Castaneda was that guy. who is next...  Freeman can't do it alone, and without Ali, I am afraid we might be in trouble. I think this game is the perfect time for someone to step up, if nobody does I worry the season could have a lower ceiling then I was hoping. Please let a Star be born tonight in Vegas!!!! Go Zips!

On that last possession a lot of passing but nobody wants to take a shot and leads to a turnover.  We saw a lot of that in the tourney.  Need to shoot when you have an open J
