I think you are right and would like to add. I would say coaching is 1A and the coach bringing in a QB for his system in year one is 1B. The QB attracts skilled players that best fit the new coaches system. It allows the coach to better create his own program.

I've said it for a couple of years here and I'll say it again. Moorheads biggest mistake is not bringing in his guy on day one and then living and dying with that guy. Colorado is a way better program than before Sanders. They are relevant, exciting and generally competitive.

Moorhead basically did the same as Sanders, except over a 2 year period. He brought in 35 players in Year One and 41 players in Year Two.

To your point about QB, it’s been misfires. Undercuffler and Jennings in Year One. Bullock and Wasel in Year Two. It seems like Year 3 finally hit the mark with Finley and Roggow. Irons was already here and became an All-MAC QB in 2022, but the injuries completely derailed him the following season.

Turning play-calling over last year didn’t help either.

Uh, oh.  Don't look now but KSUcks hung tough w/ Balls.  Watched some of the game & their QB looks solid.

But, being KSU they found a way to lose. 🤣Also not ready to anoint Ball State as a good team either, lost 37-34, Lost 45 to 42 to WMU and then beat Kent 37-35. That doesn't scream anything other than mediocrity to me.

BSU's 2-4 record isn't representative of mediocrity per se (it's much owrse than that), but I'd take it over UA's 1-6.

We arguably should've beaten BUGS. We should've beaten WMU. We were competitive against Ohio. We should be right there in the race for Detroit. Need need NEED to build on the EMU win.

Exactly. We aren’t far away. Another winnable game next week vs Buffalo.

Lets see who are the real Zip fans.  Without checking the stat sheets, does anyone remember the last time Akron won 2 games in a row?  (I cannot)

Would’ve had to have been Bowden’s last season.

Without looking my guess would be 2018, Morgan state and then Northwestern. There is probably a game between the two though. Two FBS games in a row? That would've been before I was a student

You almost had it. You are correct that that happened that year but that happened earlier in that year and then later that year the Zips beat Kent and Central Michigan back to back, which would also be the last back to back FBS games. That year they only had four wins but twice they had a two-game winning streak. 🤣

I am impressed!!!  For Zips fans that want to read something depressing, here is the quote from our AD at the time of the Bowden firing in 2018:  "Certainly, Terry and his staff have brought respectability to the program over the last seven years," Akron athletic director Larry Williams said in a statement. "However, after undertaking a thorough review of the entire program, and in consultation with the [university] president and Board of Trustees, it is clear that we need to make a change if we are going to consistently achieve at an even higher level."

Six years later, the football team has not won back to back games.  How is that for achieving at a higher level? Further, if news reports are correct, we had to buy out both Bowden and Arth's contract at UTC to the tune of $650,000 to hire Arth.   Larry Williams is now the Athletic Director at University of San Francisco.
