The players who made their intentions known during locker room interviews at Climate Pledge Arena are

redshirt junior guard Nate Johnson,

junior guard Tavari Johnson,

senior guard Shammah Scott,

senior forward James Okonkwo and

junior forward Amani Lyles.

Without knowing what the other players plans are, this would give us a solid foundation to build off of.

Sooo did they not ask the others or did they not commit?

With Akron winning back-to-back MAC championships and returning a strong foundation, maybe that will help us get in a decent early season tournament.

Hopefully this is the year we up our scheduling. The schedule this past year was perfect for the team that was assembled, so I’m sure JG will put together another great schedule for next year’s team. I’d love to see some P5 teams, but if they won’t schedule us, take a look at the mid major top 25. Start at the top and work our way down the list, calling them all until we have a good schedule.

Random thoughts:

I agree that we should only have one Malone/Heidelberg/Concord/Ohio Wesleyan/SUNY Brockport...each season, as a warmup.

I find it a little amusing that many on ZipsNation gripe about football's OOC schedule for being too tough and about basketball for being too easy.

I think we all like Groce and trust what he tells us to be true.  Is he lying to us when he tells us how hard Dustin works on the schedule and how difficult it is to put together the OOC schedule?

I don't need to see the Zips play big time P4 teams, but I would like to see more of top mid-majors.

With so many players that can come back. I would assume the back ups have a decision to make. Come back and be a back up or go to another team and maybe start. With the 10 man rotation that will help people stay as everyone plays but here is the list to watch for me

T. Johnson, N. Johnson, Lyles for sure coming back

Scott, Okonkwo I believe they stay

Hardman, young, MMK, Harris, 2 redshirt freshman. Are the question marks.

The article said Scott and Okonkwo indicated they will be back.

I don't see MMK having a big market so I think he's back.  Hardman loves it here.  I spoke to his mom after the championship and they all feel blessed that he found his way here, so he's back.   There are rumors Harris will not be back.  Mahaffey had a great camp before he got hurt and had established a clear role and was with the team all through the season so I am encouraged he will return.  I have no idea on Brisco.

I wonder on MMK's ceiling. He plays solid defense, but he's too small to play against good bigs but doesn't have much scoring ability as a wing.

I hope all the players come back and that they improve as much as last year returning players.  After the Arizona beat down, they have to get stronger on the boards.  Hardman has to improve his defense.  Okonkwo need to be able to finish at the basket.  However, I thought his offense improved a great deal from the beginning of the season.  Lyles has shown what a great rebounder against Miami, but he must improve on the boards against better competition.  Looking forward to big improvements from this group.

I don’t think scheduling between the two sports is comparable at all.
