I hate to be a Debbie Downer but ...

Under both Dambrot and Groce which teams of note have the Zips beat? Not just majors, but quality mid-majors as well? There have been near misses - Nevada, Dayton, Ark. State - but nothing of note comes to my mind. At least Boals and another coach close by have some notches on their belts.

Zips don't just need to step up scheduling, ... BUT ALSO BEAT SOMEBODY.

PS -- All this talk about 'nobody wants to play us' is pure smoke. Who has Akron defeated in men's basketball that would put fear into these power conference teams. Kent? Miami? Omaha? Does Akron's loss to Arizona strike fear into Indiana, Illinois, West Virginia, Cincinnati and others. C'mon folks. The program is rock solid, not a one-year wonder.

It truly is time to full tilt boogie. Dance on the edge. Step up to the plate and take some swings.

You definitely have to go back several years to find wins like this:

2016-17 - Houston

2015-16 - Arkansas

2014-15 - USC and South Carolina

2012-13 - Penn State

2007-08 - Florida State

The Zips have certainly came close.  The UCLA game is a prime example.  We also choked an NIT game against Ohio State that we should have won.  I also remember a last second defeat against a really good VCU team at home when Zeke played.  I do remember beating a Temple team during the NIT.

My worry was West Virginia but they hired DeVries.  I think we're out of the woods.

Devries left WVU for Indiana. I believe WVU job is still open.

This is the only opening that worries me. Maybe OSU down the line.

Thankfully as of now I don't see Groce's name anywhere when it comes to the WVU search. They seem to be zeroed in on the HC's from Wake Forest and North Texas.

They beat Miss State by 10 in 2011-12.  I realize it was a LONG time ago but it was a nationally televised and the Zips were the better team all night.

Didn't they let Northwestern off the hook in an NIT game they should of won?

We certainly let OSU off the hook in the NIT. Lost in OT if I recall correctly.

We've let them off the hook twice - the NIT OT game and the regular season loss at the buzzer.

That's one hell of a reward for beating Oklahoma State in an NIT game!

WVU's AD, Wren Baker, was at NT when Ross Hodge was the Associate HC for 7 seasons at NT.

Connor posted he's coming back next season.  Of course, that's probably the deal John made with Dustin :)

If I'm not mistaken, that means we'll only have one roster spot open this transfer portal cycle.

What's your point?

That we'll only have one Portal addition this year after there was speculation that Connor Groce would transfer for playing time at a smaller school, which would've opened up an additional roster spot for possibly 2 Portal additions.

Conner is a free walk on (since his dad is a UA employee).

I don't see the BB program adding a scholarship player, likely an out-of-$tate transfer, to replace a free roster spot. As someone earlier stated - it is better to spend any available $15,000 on an incumbent player(s) who's paid their dues and who would actually see the floor than giving said scholarship money to someone ranking between #13 and #15 on the depth chart.

We're still keeping our eyes open for that rumored big man transfer, aren't we?

Yes. YSU kid…CMU kid…and Ohio State kid are the front runners (Per CKPom and CKBPI).
