clarkwgriswold Posted yesterday at 11:23 AM Report Posted yesterday at 11:23 AM I think we need to remember that not every portal transfer is brought in to be a star. Some are meant to be valuable depth. 1 Quote

I like Sharron and hope he can stay but there's no reason to think he's better than an incoming player who has better stats just because we like him. By the way, the Southland and Horizon League were the two conferences directly behind the MAC in conference NET Rankings last year, so it's not like he was playing at a drastically lower level for the past 3 seasons. 3 Quote
ZipsFan31 Posted yesterday at 12:25 PM Report Posted yesterday at 12:25 PM If Sharron comes back. This guy is the perfect Scott replacement. Combo guard who can come in a score, score score! I am still hoping Sharron young will get the keys to the Ferrari this season. I think he could be all MAC 1 Quote

Sharron had intangibles that no one else had and that's unmeasurable IMO. And he was behind TJ so that's why the stats aren't there. Quote

roopride Posted yesterday at 03:25 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:25 PM I guess with Tajh being from Ohio, connection to Shammal, Akron success, early commitment, etc.. this cost us little. Quote

Yeah, I'm not sure what expectations some had for the portal. Outside of maybe Evan (whose game had limitations), this is probably the most proven player we've gotten in the NIL era. Typically we've targeted under the radar talent that we saw potential in. I don't see why he can't be as good, or better, than Young. He likely can't replace what TJ did and that's okay. ~6' guards who shoot ~50%/40%/90% and average close to 20 points per game are fetching far more money than we can afford. We were never going to be able to instantaneously replace that in 1 signing. Edit: I will add I would be disappointed if this was our only portal signing, but it's not going to be. Hard to make judgements until we see how things fill in. Edited yesterday at 03:36 PM by kreed5120 Quote

I hope SY comes back but at this point I think ZNO is looking at potential instead of results. Either way, it looks like a good portal addition. Quote

Illini Zip Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago First of all, the Tahj addition fits the system already in place. Time will tell, but this leads me to think Ford isn’t looking to make drastic offensive changes. 22 hours ago, RoyalBlu said: Experienced guard who can score, rebound and assist; perfect transition guy for the freshmen guards behind him. I agree with this statement. I thought with the loss TJ to graduation bringing in senior leadership at PG was going to be necessary. And with Young in the portal, he is a good insurance policy, but won’t necessarily step on Young’s toes if he decides to stay. They are complimentary pieces. Just like TJ, Young and Scott were this year. 22 hours ago, AkronAlumnus said: Is he PG1? If so, I'm not impressed but I'm just one guy. Wish him nothing but the best regardless He could very well be PG1. Hopefully there’s a vigorous battle this offseason with Young. But again, they likely share the PG responsibilities and play together a bunch. Tai’Ree will be in the PG rotation as well. 2 Quote

In today's NIL/portal world, this will help Kent because you can see that pipeline to "CBB contender money" from Kent State. 1 Quote

kreed5120 Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago (edited) He appears to have pretty good handles and decent footwork for someone of his size. I could definitely see being able to play both him and Barre at the same time without it being much of an issue. https://x.com/i/status/2043368372922921403 Edit: Last season against us he had 6 points on 2/6 shooting, 4 boards, and 2 blocks. I'm probably most pleased with the rim protection (and obviously 3P%). That was obviously a weakness for us last year. Would prefer if he was a stronger rebounder. Likely needs to put on some muscle to better fight for position. Edited 5 hours ago by kreed5120 Quote

I haven't seen him play, but by the numbers he looks like a chucker. A career .341 shooter from the field and .329 from 3. I'm not sure if he's an elite perimeter defender and that's the appeal, but his rebounding, blocks, and steal totals leave a lot to be desired. Personally, I hope one of the other MAC teams sign him. I would hope that we could do better. Edit: Evan Miya graded him as the 7th best player on a 12-21 Sun Belt team. The #2302 rated player in college basketball overall.
