Right. Speaking of, a few MAC schools are having Spring "Scrimmages" on a weeknight - didn't bother enough to see if these are typical spring games open to the public, but either way my sense is traditional spring games are going away gradually
-
I believe OSU Is having one this year. Our recent Spring games have been glorified practices. They used to be a fun Spring event with the surplus equipment sale but they've become nothing special. Last year's event in the fieldhouse was a snoozer.
-
That would be great. We are long due for a draft pick

Look at our budget to see what we're spending on coaches, staff, travel, recruitment, etc. Next look what we're spending relative to our peers in NIL. We quit trying many years ago. You don't need a spring practice to confirm that.
-
most recent article I found discussing this came out last year, included : OSU, Nebraska, TT, NCST, USC, FSU, Oklahoma Add Pitt and Rutgers this year. I'm sure plenty of smaller schools are part of this trend too but Sports Illustrated doesn't write about them..
-
We're talking about an opportunity to get in front of a public that has largely tuned them out. While there were moments last year that made you think they were trying, now we know that was fool's gold and it's same old same old and they'd rather just let the thing rot. The last time they announced a 50% full house was 2019. They just told the public they don't care if they ever do it again.

Someone rescue him from Minnesota. Please.

The World of College Basketball
Blue & Gold replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Idea: teams/players should have to sign two-year contracts. If this included the redshirt year this would still give the athlete an opportunity to transfer two times in his/her career if they would so choose. Sound fair? -
Forgot about that. Feel like a bit of an idiot replying to Mr. Perkins asking if Micah is someone who could follow Todd May to Akron lol.
-
What other schools have stopped?

Here is a nice article about Malcom if you are interested. Says he has interviewed with seven teams and is projected to go anywhere from fourth round to seventh... https://www.kitsapsun.com/story/sports/2026/04/03/malcolm-dewalt-nfl-draft/89389791007/ Hope the kid makes it...

Player development is a Zip strength. The calculus of that is tougher in the new era. But also, couldn’t Oggy have gotten more minutes in blowouts? Has KenPom distorted playing time decisions?
-
They are saving some of you from yourselves. Find something more interesting to do. It shouldn't be hard.
-
I believe Micah Young is either Tai Perkins' half-brother or step brother. Closely related somehow.
-
The people that run this unserious program apparently are scared that teams may want something from their 13-35 head coach. Yeah, maybe St. Francis on their way to D3.
-
Article on some of the talking points being discussed at Final Four weekend by coaches. Mentions both Groce and Campbell's coach. Also talks about some power conference schools want to institute bird rights to institute policies that would allow them exceed the $20.5M revenue share. https://herosports.com/cbb-john-groce-bird-rights-chatter-mid-major-money-squeeze-ksks/

You really think people are there scouting players? My guess is that there are only family and friends at the spring game anyway.
-
Not sure if this is someone that could follow Todd May to Akron, but 6'3" freshman with these stats is nothing to sniff at as a bench piece at the very least.
-
He did end up playing 3 minutes tonight but didn't record any notable stats.
-
They were 5-7 with a rather favorable schedule a year after being 4-8 with a less favorable one. There are no signs the program is actually improving, and they're then doing this to make sure they can't generate any local buzz.
-
The excitement continues to build!
-
Enrique was active with the Timberwolves last game but didn't play. He's active again tonight, against his former team, and Minnesota is currently up by about 30 so he may see some time in the 4th quarter.
-
Curiosity why you call the upward trajectory questionable.
-
And yet completely predictable by this unserious group.
