How the MLS SuperDraft Works The MLS SuperDraft will consist of three rounds total, with 10-minute breaks in between rounds. Each team has four minutes to make their selection with the option to take a three-minute timeout before making their selection. If a club fails to make a selection within the designated time, they are required to wait until the next selection is made and have their selection in hand by the time the following club’s selection is made. Should a team pass on its selection, it forfeits the chance to make any further selections for the remainder of the MLS SuperDraft.

While I’m concerned about potentially losing good players, I’ll be happy for any of our players who are drafted. Many Zips have had successful pro careers. Always happy to see more.

They finished in the middle of the pack in the MAC. Maybe it's crappy compared to the body of FBS, but it's an OK year for a MAC school. We aren't in the crappy category anymore.

I had questions similar to those posted. Thanks for researching as best as possible. I know Malik and Dyson returned for a final collegiate season after being drafted. If a sophomore is drafted, could he return for two years or only one?

MLS Draft eligibility primarily includes college seniors who've exhausted NCAA eligibility, but it's expanded to cover sophomores, juniors, certain Generation adidas players, and some non-collegiate internationals, with the league compiling a list based on club/coach input rather than a formal player declaration. How Players Get on the List Unlike the NFL/NBA, there's no formal "declaration" process for players. MLS consults with clubs, scouts, and college coaches to create the official list of draft-eligible players each year.

Nice facilities are great but as long as your playing crappy football it's lipstick on a pig.

I don't think locker rooms and other facilities are at the top of our problems list.

It's a good start. I'll take it seriously when it is structured like a pro sports league with 30-35 teams organized to win the championship like the NFL. It will never happen for a lot of reasons, but that's my line. I don't even take the basketball tournament seriously because it's more likely to crown a hot team and not the best team. Multi game tournaments like the NHL and NBA do that. I actually think the NCAA tournament should have fewer teams and require more than one loss to be eliminated.

Players get drafted and come back pretty frequently. Probably works like baseball except you don’t get locked into not being drafted for multiple years but you get the option to go to college

The Hockey explains a lot. I distinctly remember Shooky, after earning a red card, cheering on his teammates from the stairwell to the locker room. I kept whispering, “keep quiet so the AR does not realize you are still watching.” He just could not stop exhorting his team. Loudly. The AR eventually caught on, prompting the HR to stop the game clock so that Shooky could be escorted to the locker room. Kind of funny. Kind of moving.

I am admittedly always lost on MLS roster rules, despite being a massive Crew fan. I never take the time to learn the roster rules. Did Remi and Freddy declare for the draft? Are they able to come back if they are not drafted or do not sign? I seem to remember Dyson Clapier doing that.

I look at all those Q4 wins for the Zips and it makes me scratch my head. The names of those programs are far from what I think of as programs that are typically Q4… hopefully a bunch of them build their numbers going foward.

I like your distinction between playoff and invitational tournament. Let me expand on that... For me to take it seriously as a playoff, it would have to be setup like other NCAA Tournaments where conference champions get an automatic berth. This would discourage all of the ridiculous conference consolidation and ensure that, from the start of the season, everyone has a legit shot of winning the title (however stretched those odds may be). The fact that the ACC Champion (Duke) was excluded while a team not even eligible to play in its conference championship game got into the "invitational tournament" is ridiculous, regardless of other logical justifications.

I'm not bored by college football. I just don't take it as seriously as the people who run it want me to. For example, Friday Im going to see a band call Parks Brothers play. The playoff will be on. Every once in a while I'll look at the screen to see what's going on. The point I'm making is this. As much as they want us to believe it's a playoff, it simply isn't. It's an invitational tournament and the winner is called the National Champion after. To me, they are at the same level of champion as they were when they used to vote for the national championship. They just go about it a different way.

Akron has the best stadium in the MAC but locker room and overall facilities they do not. Miami’s locker room, indoor, meeting rooms etc blow away Akron’s - not even close

Thankfully, college basketball and NHL. The NBA is unwatchable, and beyond the Zips, college football bores me to death anymore.
