Tracking Roster Movement going into 2026
Blue & Gold replied to catdaddyp's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Catdaddy's keeping on top of this but I was also pleased to see the ABJ tracking the fluid situation -
I like your distinction between playoff and invitational tournament. Let me expand on that... For me to take it seriously as a playoff, it would have to be setup like other NCAA Tournaments where conference champions get an automatic berth. This would discourage all of the ridiculous conference consolidation and ensure that, from the start of the season, everyone has a legit shot of winning the title (however stretched those odds may be). The fact that the ACC Champion (Duke) was excluded while a team not even eligible to play in its conference championship game got into the "invitational tournament" is ridiculous, regardless of other logical justifications.

I'm not bored by college football. I just don't take it as seriously as the people who run it want me to. For example, Friday Im going to see a band call Parks Brothers play. The playoff will be on. Every once in a while I'll look at the screen to see what's going on. The point I'm making is this. As much as they want us to believe it's a playoff, it simply isn't. It's an invitational tournament and the winner is called the National Champion after. To me, they are at the same level of champion as they were when they used to vote for the national championship. They just go about it a different way.

Bowl Eligibility Ban 2025 and "Possibly Further"

Akron has the best stadium in the MAC but locker room and overall facilities they do not. Miami’s locker room, indoor, meeting rooms etc blow away Akron’s - not even close -
One of my top 5 favorite games at the JAR
-
Yes I do!

Ashton and Mitch are both rated very highly in this article https://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/news/mls-superdraft-2026-top-prospects-by-position

Thankfully, college basketball and NHL. The NBA is unwatchable, and beyond the Zips, college football bores me to death anymore.

Ragging on Miami's schedule is independent of Akron's schedule. Miami didn't even try to schedule tougher competition. Nobody is bragging about Akron's schedule outside of the margin of victory, which is far greater than Miami's margin of victory vs. even lesser competition. The ragging will continue. Miami is in for a rude awakening come MAC play I feel.
-
Miami and Travis = Buffalo and Nate 9th seed. Unstoppable unless they get tripped up by NIU.
-
Maybe the rest of the MAC should go for the easiest schedules possible (provided they win them). Gives us a shot at a real Q1 win.
-
You typed all that out just to further my point. Their win @ Wright State is better than any of our wins. In fact, it very well might end up being a Q2 win come March. Their NET is better than Iona and Miami got their win on the road while we got ours on a neutral court. They also have 2 Q3 wins to our 1. I'm not saying they're better. I'm more pointing out the fact we also just beat up on cupcakes during OOC play (evident by the fact all but 1 of our wins were Q4 wins). The better teams we played we lost to. We also played a very weak OOC schedule (#252 per kenpom). Not as weak as Miami who had the 4th worst (#362), but still nothing to brag about.

I’ll give you the practice facility and Miami hockey’s arena, but Yager Stadium itself was a dump when I went in 2019, and I’ve heard the locker rooms are equally as bad. I actually think the locker rooms are a bigger selling point than the stadium which Akron had state of the art when I was a student. Plus, Miami has the worst hoops setup in the country. -

Thanks for passing this along TennZip. Rarely do you read an article where the interviewed athlete has such mature and articulate comments. Jason is another example of the exceptional quality of young men who come thru the Akron soccer program.

The profoundly annoying Drum Chant backdrop returns...

We rag on Miami for their weak schedule, but their road win @ Wright State is better than any win we have during OOC play.

Best facilities in the MAC? You need to visit Miami's football building. And before you point to InfoCision, remember that an empty stadium isn't much of a recruiting asset. -
And as a reward for Miami playing that extraordinarily difficult out of conference schedule, they start with cream puff Ball State.
-
Arghh my bracket was off, it was Princeton. Because of the way they position the brackets I messed up Akron's victory over Duke. Duke beat Princeton and Princeton lost their first game to Duke.
-
Finally, I was getting worried they weren't gonna do a basketball version this year

Miami OH survived their toughest test to date. The team with the weakest SOS going into the night finally played a team in the top 200 in NET - a Q3 opportunity at Wright State (138 night going into the night). Miami OH was up by 12 at the half and won by 7. They shot 55% from the field and 53% from 3P, only winning by 7 despite Wright State going 3-21 (14%!!!!) from 3P and 43% from the field. The Sweaters will continue to get AP Top 25 votes despite playing absolute creampuffs. Toledo got throttled by Michigan State. BUGS creamed a lowly Chicago State. NIU and Ohio beat non DI opponents. Not including last night's games, the MAC currently has 9 teams in the top 200 NET. Only WMU, NIU, CMU, and Balls are outside the top 200; the latter 3 are all 300+.

Bowl Eligibility Ban 2025 and "Possibly Further"

Hopefully our coaching staff can stay in place for the foreseeable future and actually build something at UA. That is the one thing that has held us back. Hiring two of the worst head coaches in FBS history has dug us in a hole that is hard to come out of. Also doesn't help that people in NE Ohio only care about one college football team and it's not us. So there will always be this reputation that the Zips aren't a "real" school and our games don't matter.
