LZ, I do go to the games. In fact it is harder for me than most Zip fans because I live in Columbus. I've also been to BG and Toledo for away games. Like all Zip fans on this board I want higher attendance and I do my part.2 points

A lot has changed in 12 years. More and more people prefer to watch games in the comfort of their own home on their 55 inch 4K TV instead of actually attending live sporting events.2 points

Oh please, enough with the coded BS. "A move he never really wanted to make." If you know something different than what the general population knows (which if there is, I highly doubt it to be as big of an issue as some are making it out to be), then spill the beans. It isn't confidential information unless a NDA was signed by Keith for whatever reason...which I HIGHLY doubt.2 points

If you watched OU walking off the field to the tunnel after the game a number of them kept looking up at the scoreboard shaking their heads in disbelief. I was particularly amused when I saw their O-lineman #65 who threw the cheap shot chop block at the goal line which ended up costing them a TD(and 4 points) staring up in disbelief. Priceless.2 points

One kitten poster wrote: "While Miami is our traditional rival, I dislike Akron a lot more..." I feel the same way about them. While K.ent is our traditional rival, this OU thing, man...2 points

1. Kent sucks. Given. 2. This is a rivalry game, the team needs to get up and not take this jalopy of a football team for an easy W. Examining the Kent/CMU box score illustrates this. Kent outgained CMU on offense 494 to 450. They actually had a shot to get this to a one possession game in the 4th quarter before some boneheaded coaching decisions and/or execution took them from 1st and goal at the CMU 1 to 4th and goal from the 34 (turnover on downs). Kent was also -1 in the turnover battle. Bollas, who seems to have been at Kent for 12 years, appears to be getting better at running the spread. He completed 15 passes to 7 different receivers, for 11.1 ypc. He's no Tom Brady, but he doesn't look lost like every other Kent game I've seen him tossing in. I will gladly eat crow from my OU game thread posts. I was yelling from my couch. I should've been there. On that note, I've got my tickets and I'll be bringing a couple folks with me Tuesday. GO ZIPS!2 points

Speaking of funerals, the general consensus around here was you were dead. Welcome back!!2 points

I've been having a blast reading their fan forum after this loss. It's hysterical! The epic meltdown!2 points

One of the better predictions on OUs fan site "Akron can put an all-star team of their last 10 classes combined and it wouldn't beat this team. They are going to stack the box and have their corners play 10 yards off. This will get ugly early. Hopefully Maxwell will get some reps! Ohio 55- Akron 14."2 points

Zips FB shared this video and indicated it is a part of a larger documentary they are working on.1 point

I have four seats at Infocision in the family zone. It's behind the visitors bench and usually has more opposing fans than Zips fans. Yes, OU has the most obnoxious, arrogant, delusional, ignorant and annoying fans I have ever seen. Even worse than Steelers fans.1 point
-
It's definitely a generational gap. I'm right there with you. Watching at home is more convenient, cheaper, clearer view of the game, and more comfortable seating.1 point

What does this mean? Can you give an example of a bad "in game" decision he made or didn't make? A cite to an article? If you recruit well, the in game decisions get a lot easier.1 point

I also remember us beating SIU-E before they won the national title in 1979. I think the archives have been changed, just to make me look bad! Why is everybody out to get me?! Where was Desmond Armstrong that weekend??1 point

By Wednesday afternoon, everyone is on the road. It's the busiest travel day of the year in this country. And the campus would be deserted by game time. There would be ZERO chance of getting any students to this game if it were on Wednesday. I don't want to argue over Tuesday vs. Wednesday, because neither will produce a blockbuster difference. But 7pm Wednesday would be a disaster.1 point

Keep the QB a secret. OU didn't prepare for Kato, and admitted they were expecting a much slower QB. We won't be able to catch Can't as off guard, but it can certainly help. There might be an advantage to keeping it a secret; there is no advantage of the inverse I don't believe.1 point
-
I'll go out on a limb and suggest, the effectiveness of Kent's defense will not hinge on knowing, or not knowing, the starting QB for Akron.1 point

If it were on Wednesday night, yes, that would be great. Most are off on Thursday, and typically many go out the night before Thanksgiving. I assume most have to work Wednesday. Last Tuesday I worked 8 hours, drove 40 minutes to the game, photographed game, drove home, developed photography, uploaded to site at 1:30, bed by 2 am, up at 6 am to work another 8 hour day. It will be the same this Tuesday. I don't blame anybody for not going to a Tuesday night game. I hope we pack the stadium for Kent, but I expect the same as last week, or less.1 point

WOW Breaking News. That's the kind of information that keeps Zips fans informed, up to the minute.1 point

This team reminds of the race horse, Seabiscuit. If you haven't seen the movie by the same name, it's a great watch.1 point

On a Tuesday Night...the week of Thanksgiving. Like saying anything less then 15k is a disgrace is setting it up to call it a disgrace. We'll never draw more than 10k on a Tuesday night. No way. We'll never draw more than 10k on the Week of Thanks giving. No way. What we all should be pissed about, and immediately complaining (as fans) to the AD and MAC Commissioner, is why Kent got the Home Rivalry game vs us scheduled in like September last year? (early in the year) which drew a respectable crowd by Kent standards (because more of our fans and theirs will show up for a warm weather Saturday game), and we got stuck with a November, just before thanksgiving schedule in the newer stadium. The Rivalry Game should be played on a Saturday, in warmer weather. More people will show up.1 point

Akron's side of the Wagon Wheel Kent's side of the story These are "cute" but not sure if it's enough to drum up a lot of extra attendance. They were posted on the UA Facebook page1 point

FYI, if it hasn't been posted yet. Game will be on ESPNU (confirmed by the official MACtion twitter account @LZIp - we must have posted at same time....1 point

I agree and have not seen any signs of that happening. We can't even get the local reporter to act like our wins are wins.1 point

I think you've hit on something I preach about all the time. We shouldn't really want any program within our state or region to do well. On some level, it affects us. In some cases it might be in recruiting. In other instances, for the schools that are closer to us, it's in lack of media coverage. And that's all tough for me to say in this case. Because I know the situation with Keith, and I like him, and I would otherwise want him to set the world on fire at Duquesne, after making a move that he really was never wanting to make.1 point

Not me... Pittsburgh's too close for comfort. I'm also happy to see the Pitt Panthers in such disarray.1 point

I think for both us and them, it has a lot to do with competitiveness. While we do have a lackluster history in D-1 football, we now look at Kent as what *should* be an automatic win on the schedule and they look at Miami the same I'd imagine. We've also had some pretty epic match ups on the hardwood, and we both seem to have more of an online presence than Kent and Miami...so that makes it easier to get into it more I think. I get more enjoyment out of beating Ohio as well, because I know a lot of OU fans and they're obnoxious. "OU OH YEAH" is god dang annoying. It's something a person with the IQ of potato would constantly scream.1 point

That's a big rivalry game. Anything can happen. I just hope that common rule doesn't apply to us next week.1 point

And Kerr was the Golden Boot winner. Shame. Game played at the Tacoma Dome in Washington. In the semi's Akron upset perhaps the favorite of the Final Four, Columbia and their star forward Desmond Armstrong, who you might remember from his TV broadcasting career with ESPN, etc. Here's the write-up on Duke's website about the final. http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=285808 And re: Zip-ME87 above: I have Air Force beating VaTech. They have a strong record against mediocre competition. They're undefeated In their last 16 games.1 point

I watched some of the NIU/WMU game tonight. The NIU stadium looked pretty empty to me, and they went to the Orange Bowl a few years back.1 point

Should have been an offsides call. These announcers really struggled to grasp what the offense did on that play.1 point

Congrats. Game was loaded with punches and counter-punches (only somewhat metaphorical), but you guys held strong. Nice job.1 point

By Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer AKRON, Ohio -- For Kato Nelson, his performance in leading the Akron Zips to first place in the Mid-American Conference East Division in just his second start Tuesday was as obvious on the field as it was watching from the stands. WTF Elton?1 point

I really hope there's a big turnout for the Can't game. The community and fan base needs to reward a stellar performance and hopefully a trip to Detroit with a good crowd for the last game of the year.1 point
-
If someone told me before the game that Akron would miss an extra point, have a punt attempt blocked, allow 34 points, have two players ejected early, and suffer a gazillion yards in penalties, and still win I would have been incredulous. Nice to see the Zips actually look good on national TV. Go Zips1 point

I'd contend this year as well. Losing two of your three captains to injury plus your backup RB. Doesn't sound too lucky to me this year either. Props to Manny Morgan too - dude ran hard.1 point

all kidding aside...great job by WMU this season. Very happy they are in line for and deserve a top 16 seed. Cool to see more than 1 MAC team in position for the NCAA Tournament entering the MACC Match.1 point

I haven't read all the posts here, but one of the early ones talked about firing him after his contract runs out. Generally, I think it would be very bad to let a coach''s contract run out. If he doesn't have a year or two on his contract, then you are telling recruits to have no confidence that he will be there. So, not only are you firing the coach, but you are sacrificing a few recruiting years prior to firing him.1 point
